"The American Heiress" Book and Tea Club
My Final Thoughts on the Book
Okay, I know we are pretty much done talking about this book now, but I just want to see if anyone else noticed the several mistakes within this book or was it just me? I counted somewhere between 4 and 6 double word errors and at least two sentences that made no sense because a word was left out. At first I thought maybe I’m just reading the book wrong or maybe it has something to do with the author trying to show some type of literary thing (can’t think of the right word to use here), but it only got worse towards the end of the book. Maybe I’m just reading the book wrong or something.
Otherwise, this book was a good read. At first I had a hard time getting into it because it just felt boring and I felt no real connection to any of the characters. After Teddy and Cora ran off during the party is when I finally started really becoming interested in the book.
Also, I would like to add that I also agree with the rest of you on the end being to rushed. But, I think the author did an excellent job of tying up some lose ends. I was starting to wonder what happened when Teddy saw the Duke with this “lady” and if I would ever know, but last minute it’s brought back up again.
Also, I hate that Cora never really stands up for herself when she’s around the Duke. The Duke treats her horribly and makes up for it by “touching her shoulders”!!! What!?! Cora always seems to forget how bad he hurt her, but always forgives him when she should be letting him know how she feels. This is how you can tell she really does love him. I just disliked the Duke more and more as I read.
Well, that’s all I have left to say about the book I guess. Can’t wait to start in on the next! :)
I wish she would have stood up for herself more and I don’t understand why the Duke didn’t coach her a bit more.
I like the notes at the end about what was based on fact. It surprised me that a lot of that opulence that annoyed me was based on fact.
I was surprised by how much I learned to respect Cora.
It drove me crazy how Cora didn’t stand up to the Duke. And also to her mother, for that matter.
Ok, I think the clear winner for the next book club is Spring Snow! I’ll start a new thread in just a little bit. :)
