Great tea masterclass in London

I want to recommend a brilliant masterclass on tea. I cannot recommend it enough. A lovely lady called Jane Pettigrew holds the class, along with a super chap called Tim Clifton.
The class last all day, but with obvious tea breaks, lunch and afternoon tea. In fact, do arrive hungry and be prepared not to eat that evening. It’s held at a hotel in the upmarket area of Mayfair in London and the hotel staff were very friendly.
As for the class itself, you learn everything from the origins of tea, plucking, manufacturing processes, different types and best of all, lots of tea tasting is included. Jane and Tim are incredibly knowledgeable, like human wikipedias on tea.
I had a thoroughly pleasant day and it was great to see such a mixed bunch of people attending the class. A lady and a gentleman planning to set up a tea room, two people who from abroad who had come especially for the masterclass itself and a couple of Japanese mothers who just loved tea.
The class is not cheap at 175 pounds, but considering you get all mentioned above, as well as her book, I’d say it’s money well spent for all tea enthusiasts.
I’m now planning to attend a shorter tea tasting class with another company, also held in London and I’ll keep you posted…

That sounds simply divine! And you’ve got a fantastic blog, Nina. I would love to hear about any good USA tastings that are worth a trip.

Yes, we were given the updated version of this book- ‘Tea Classified’. I also bought ‘Tea in the City: London’ and plan to ‘tea spot’ my way through it!

Neat! I didn’t know there was an updated version. I’ve found her book pretty useful, I might pick it up!
