Official *What did you get in the mail today?* Thread!!!
New Gaiwan and a couple of packets of free tea.
Pretty happy with it. It’s hand signed instead of stamped under the glaze. Nice and affordable right now as it’s price includes shipping.
Looks awesome! Thanks for sharing the link…
(Are you the artist of that gorgeous painting?)
He is, but this isn’t my Uncle’s work. I really don’t know much about the artist of this piece. My uncle is into more abstract pieces.
This was yesterday’s haul rather than today’s but I yesterday I got 2 things in the mail: half of my order from RiverTea (it was sent out in 2 packages) and a care package from Sil of various Lupicia teas!
- Loco Lime
- Midsummer Night
- Strawberry Champagne green tea
- Mulberry White
- Golden Yunnan
- A lovely bamboo spoon as a surprise gift
Sil (thanks so much!) sent me samples of:
- Te de Frutas
- Chaud les Marrons
- Rhubarb & Strawberry
- The au Chocolat
- English Caramel
I can’t wait to get the rest of my RiverTea order.
Got my River Tea order today as well! Well, got one package yesterday and the other today!
Just wanted to pop on to say that if anyone is missing, or only received half of their order, it may come the next day in a separate package! Glad I waited a day to send an email, because it is now in my morning cup hehe!
100g Milky Oolong
50g Mini Nests Puerh
50g Cherry Kiss
50g Dolce Vita
50g Happy Banana
50g Fruits Basket
50g Good Feeling
50g Magic Summer (my fave by far, reminds me of the old Luscious Watermelon from DavidsTea)
50g Loco Lime
Got my teeny tiny amsterdam 2 cup teapot from english teastore.com in the mail today -finally!‘. Which I’m only going to use for samples because really it’s just too small for anything else. Holds closer to 12 ounces not 16 ounces. Still not a bad size, though
Oh my goodness that must have been the cutest teapot ever. Though what on earth would you use a 30ml teapot besides a mice tea party?
Normally I wouldn’t consider it tiny either, just individual sized but I’ve got little hands – smaller than almost everyone in my family- and it fits perfectly in the palm of my hand so I usually associate that with small things. That and compared to all my other Tea ware which are all oversized western style, this little teapot looks down right dainty!
Joseph Wesley Classic Chinese #3 and sample of a new #3. Nice package and handwritten note. Classy. Thank you.
Yunnan Sourcing several shou cakes and simple easy gaiwan(never enough). free sample of shou. it took almost 2 months but i dont mind. Great packing, lots and lots of bubble wrap(i think i can make a jogging suit out of it),very sturdy box.
The Devotea Two Tigers and Finbarr’s Revenge came last Saturday.
Very Happy Day. Now where to put it????
I just received two tins of tea from The Persimmon Tree: Thai Chai and Rooibos Vanilla Chai. I look forward to trying them out and reviewing them on my blog!
Some Yinhao black tea(a lower grade of golden monkey from Tan Yang).http://www.aliexpress.com/snapshot/6101358091.html
And a sample of blooming tea. it’s only half my order though and they gave no indication of sending separately. The tea’s packed in individual packets and they did a good job of heat sealing.
Sounds wonderful :-) hope you get the rest soon, safe and sound!
Do you order often with Aliexpress? I saw your gaiwan the other day, nice. I couldn’t help browse the site and saw amazing teaware, but deals on yixing pots just seemed too good to be true, (a $129 pot reduced at $28, free shipping!)
I do buy a lot from aliexpress, some dealers are kind of ephemeral, but I’ve mostly had good experiences. The Gaiwan is nice eventually it will be its own piece of art as it develops its own pattern of cracks along the glaze. I’ve never bough yixing. I assume that most of the cheap stuff is probably machine made. I have bought canisters. I Really like the ones here.http://www.aliexpress.com/store/all-wholesale-products/526436.html. Sometimes you get really cheap prices when a shop s just starting out so the owners get traffic and feedback, it doesn’t necessarily mean a product is cheap or poorly made. Some stores or companies will offer occasional promotions on items as well. So you will see it discounted across all dealers who carry it. I’ve mostly bought tea. Otherwise I’ve picked up 5 ceramic canisters, and that Gaiwan ( mostly because I get Gaiwan in China Town from between 2-5$, the one store had 15 yixings, but I don’t know if I trust their provenance).
This store had a lot of cheap yixing. It is probably all machine made but he doesn’t promise to be anything other than it is, I bought cannisters from the dealer and he was really honest about what I was getting.http://www.aliexpress.com/store/127979
Thank you so much for taking the time to respond, will have a look :-)
I’m not at all familiar with Aliexpress, didn’t even know it existed until I read your posts.
Your welcome. I’ve had fun learning about tea and regions through it. Sellers can range from Taobao resellers, people who have other business, happen to produce homegrown tea and decide to sell on their site, tea farmers, tea stores who sell on other platforms and professional tea factories, even some very old companies are selling on aliexpress. I just bought from one company that has an almost three hundred year history.
But there are many awesome things there, if you practice a bit of caution, common sense and self control!
I’m afraid I was born with non of those qualities yyz…
And yes, I already saw MANY interesting things, lol. I think Sil is right, must keep away!!!
Lol:)! I think I like it because I love shopping in markets. I also have a very high risk tolerance, which I guess is good considering some of the jobs I’ve had!
Apparently it got sent in two pieces and the second piece has been stuck in Richmond since the 12 and was in customs for almost 2 weeks. Joy! The dealer sent me the other tracking number. Oh well maybe it and my other trapped in Richmond parcel will arrive in the same time.
I don’t think it’s any secret that I LOVE MANDALA TEA
I received my latest order today!!! I love the tea, I love the communication, I love the handwritten notes from Garret on the packing slip, I love the samples included (always relevant, always interesting choices).
IMHO this is a company that is doing it right – yes they might be a little more expensive than some other places, but I’m willing to pay that slight difference for the quality of tea, and amazing customer service.
Yay! I second everything you said. Enjoy this wonderful order you just got :-)
Count me in too, I am lucky to be on the direct postal route just a state over so if I need my order fast, they are my first choice. By this I mean when planning a social event with tea, I can count on Mandala to get the tea to my door almost overnight.
I’m RIGHT there with with you. I have ALL the love for Mandala. Garret is awesome to the power of infinity.
The second half of my RiverTea order came in yesterday afternoon!
Of course, it showed up just before I was about to leave for the evening, so I wasn’t able to open up all of the goodies until this morning. The remainder of my order included:
- Mountain Herbs
- Crazy Mint
- African Star (lemon rooibos)
- Sweet Meringue (vanilla meringue rooibos)
- Ruby red (red currant and apple rooibos)
I also got the samples I requested of Granny Cake, Criss Cross, and Bancha.
I finally got my RiverTea order too. Their presentation is so nice, I felt like I was unwrapping a present. And, the samples they sent were so up my alley that I believe they chose then and didn’t just toss something in.
One question though, what’s the fuzzy felt leaf thing used for?
