I got my yunnan sourcing order, all heicha, specifically teas featured in teadb episodes 174-176 : ))

Nice. I was tempted by those too, but my teafunds have lately been distracted by other things.

Today I received an order from Twinnings. Having tried a couple of their teas and found them better than expected I ordered a few more. They were offering free shipping.

One suggestion for their loose leaf teas in tins. Use a paper teabag, because they are so fine. I had English Breakfast and was comparing it with Yorkshire gold this morn.

Nice selection! I’m interested to see what you think of their Darjeeling.

A small Eco-Cha order arrived today, an experimental batch of organic gardenia scented oolong.

Zennenn said

Nice! Very interested to hear what you think of it.

LuckyMe said

Zennenn, it’s pretty good…quite similar to jasmine pearl tea in flavor.

Zennenn said

Huh! Would you say there’s enough of a difference to make it worth trying?

LuckyMe said

It’s a nice perfumey tea but for me, it doesn’t really distinguish itself enough from jasmine. Let me if know if you’d like to try a sample.

I ordered a sampler pack of Kusmi’s Russian Blends. They should be here in a couple of hours. I’ll try the Anastasia first. I enjoy earl grey blends so hopefully I’ll like a few of these.

Last week, I got teaware, the kitchenaid glass kettle/tea brewer for my office. I had debated doing a brewer or straight variable kettle but kept eyeing the Breville tea brewer and going back and forth on the price, so ended up deciding to go with something in between. Loving it so far, very functional for my office, easy to clean and looks nice too. Our variable kettle broke at home this week too so ordered a zojirushi water boiler for home. I did not think I would have to replace both so close together and I would have grabbed another kettle probably if it just me but it will be shared for my family for hot chocolate, cup a soup, oatmeal etc so thinking this will be a good fit for our family. I will see what we end up doing with the temperature with our multiple uses and time needed to change it, suspecting we will likely end up keeping it in a 90-100 degree celcius range most of the time to keep the most people happy, lol. Will see how it goes! Will need to do a tea order soon!

I got my Yunomi order already! I only placed the order on the 13th and it was shipped out on the 17. I got a couple of senchas and my new Shiboridashi teapot. I can hardly wait to try it!

My Bitterleaf order arrived a couple of days ago but I’ve been too busy playing with my new teaware to post. Got a shiboridashi and cups set, pot support, dimpled glass pitcher (pours like a dream), a funky teacup, and a few small accessories (coasters, tea towel, and strainer). They also threw in some a couple of generous samples of sheng puerh that look really interesting.

Woohoo! I know it was a long time coming too, our apologies – hopefully it was all worth it in the end!

LuckyMe said

Yep, It was definitely worth the wait! Thanks again!

That is so amazing for the price on the shirboridashi. Looking forward to reading your review on it.

Wow! Nice haul.

Ubacat, I’m loving the new shibo. It pours fast and because its thick walled it’s less prone to burning your fingers than other gaiwans. Also, the weight and size feel good in the hands.

Of course since it doesn’t have grooves like the Yunomi shiboridashi, it can’t be used with smaller tea leaves. Otherwise it’s worked great so far with Chinese greens, oolongs, and puerh.

An order from Yunnan Sourcing US and one from Chayo Tea came in today! Some green and white tea for my girlfriend (which I’ll also want to try), four different dragonballs, a 2002 Hai Lang Hao mini-cake, another random puerh sample – all from YS. From Chayo, I got a 1991 Wenshan Baozhong and the Niu Bi “Cow Cunt” puerh mini-tuos. I mean, how could I resist with that name?

mrmopar said

The 2002 Hai Lang Hao I recall was nice. I think it was the Ai Lao mountain one. It has a touch of smoke but it is nice.

Matu said

Yep it is the Ai Lao Mountain cake. I’m hoping it’s not too smokey for me – we’ll see :)

mrmopar said

It should be alright. It has the camphor minty hit for sure. Just store it away from your non smoky teas.

Matu said

Ah, guess I’ll have to find someplace for it aside from the pumidor then :P

mrmopar said

Yeah I thin the smokiness may migrate a bit. I have mine vacuum sealed.

Matu said

I might have to just throw mine in a ziploc bag. However…my mini-fridge turned pumidor has one of those semi-enclosed freezer boxes in the top, if you know what I’m talking about. Like the fridges in hotels. Do you think smokier teas might be safe up there? Like in this image: http://thumbs1.ebaystatic.com/images/g/WIcAAOSwJkJWlbjA/s-l225.jpg

mrmopar said

I think the ziploc would be safe. The freezer part still allows air to transfer between the two.

Matu said

Fair enough. Thanks for your input/advice! :)
