I went and had a nice vegan meal at Zen Garden in Mississauga and picked up some of their King’s Zen Tea. therefore avoiding Shipping charges. They do a 45 minute tea ceremony for $10 on Friday during the day ( you have to make reservations). The advantage of buying in store is they offer 25 g sizes and $1.00 1 or 2 cup samples. I picked up their Dan Cong and Celestial Aroma oolongs to try. Samples of their spring bud and blended green tea, and some Golden Monkey and Lychee Black. I picked up samples of their Fujian Tribute Tea ( It appears to be some kind of Panyong). I also got some Kakien Matcha at the Korean/Japanese grocery store ( I was tempted to get Shincha as well).
I didn’t log this last week, so here goes…
Mom’s Apple Pie
Read My Lips
I realized how quickly the fall teas were going to be leaving stores at DavidsTea today.
So I popped in and bought a full tin of Pumpkin Chai, Sugar & Spice and Mom’s Apple Pie. Was going to get some pistachio cream, but knowing there are lots of sweet not spicy flavours coming for Christmas and since i’ve only drank it twice, I decided to pass.
And I got 50g of Stormy Night for freeeeeee.
I’m in a tea buying rut, help! I have no loose leaf tea right now. I’m thinking maybe some Good Morning Sunshine from Butiki.
Things I got from David’s Tea:
Mom’s Apple Pie (100g!!!)
Strawberry Rhubarb Parfait
Long Life Oolong
and a bunch of samples…
I want to go back to buy the Timolino & get a free Stormy Night. But I’ve already spent so much already!
oh yeah I’m also scared of running out of Sugar and spice. I hope they bring it back next year, although I’m scared they won’t.
Oh man! I have been having the worst week ever. And today was quite horrible. I can’t even say “well at least the week is over”, because it isn’t. Anyway, enough belly aching.
I was out shopping, being quite the grump. I have been looking at this tea pot for ages, and it was on sale so I finally just decided to buy it. http://www.teaforte.com/store/tea-gifts/new/pugg-poppy-fields
While the cashier was ringing me up, she was being quite pleasant and kept asking me how my day was going and what I had planned for the afternoon and blah, blah, and of course, I was Ms. Grumpy Pants. Then when I went to leave she said “I hope you get to have good tea today” Awwww. My heart of stone melted just the slightest. But I pretended it didn’t and moped my way out to the car. :I No smiles today :P
I love the teapot. Haven’t gotten to use it yet but I was washing it tonight. Only thing that I don’t like is the removable filter is really hard to remove because the strainer rim gets stuck on the attached hinged lid. Oh well. Just one more thing to be grumpy about.
I’ve had days like that. The last time I had a horrid day I went tea shopping at DavidsTea and the girl gave me a cup of tea for free.
Sometimes it’s nice when life balances out. Once I had my camera stolen. I had to make a police report in Italian, for insurance purposes. When, I got to the police station I was told to come back later as they were on lunch ( this was in a smaller town). After making the report, I wasted time wandering around town where I met an artist, and decided to buy some small watercolours. In the meantime I told him my story. He leant me a camera to use for the remainder of my time in Italy and trusted me to send it back to him. An amazing person, who helped me to restore my faith in humanity.
Wow! That is a super trusting and nice person to lend you a camera without knowing you at all. That is a great story.
He really was an amazing person. His reasoning was that Italy as his adopted country, had given me many gifts and he didn’t want anyone to see it in a bad light. He needn’t have worried I already loved Italy and have been lucky to have many amazing experiences there.
In general that’s why I love travelling for some reason if I have crazy or perhaps upsetting things happen to me usually I have the luck of drawing amazing, giving, and positive people to me that helps me regain a hopeful and positive mindset, and gain a better outlook on humanity.
Fauchon is showing up at Winners/Homesense in Canada
I picked up
La Pomme du Verger
and Un Soir de France
at Dixie Mall Winners if you live in the GTA.
They also had some of the seasons series. All of them are 12.99. They also had a good supply of the William Elephant canisters in for 14.99
I saw the William Elephant ones yesterday, and was tempted. But I don’t need THAT much tea! FYI, the Winners and Homesense downtown Vancouver only have elephants.
That’s to bad that they didn’t have fauchon , the Homesense closest to me didn’t either. On the other hand, maybe they’ll get some later. I went to the Holts closest to me and they had lot’s of Fortnum and Mason but the selection of MF teas was kind of lack lustre, not surprising though as it’s the smallest store in the area.
I have 3 more Winners to check. :) No worries! I bet I’ll find more than what I need.
I shared a story on a tasting note I wrote yesterday, but I’ll paste it again here. The David’s store I’m talking about is in downtown Saskatoon (that’s in Saskatchewan, Canada for anyone who doesn’t know). I’m just going to copy and paste it from my tasting note though, so hopefully there’s enough context…
“So, what happened was I had gone in today to pick up three tea tins for teas I’ve decided will be restocked regularly (Minty Cow from Della Terra, Genmaicha from McQuarries, and Buddha Bamboo from Tea Desire), and also 100g of Choconut Oolong because I’m REALLY loving it and I want to have a good reserve of it. Really, that’s all I could afford to pick up until my next paycheck on the 16th (and then after that I’ll be making much more money because of the increase in hours and pay due to my being a manager now). However, when I came to the mall there was a homeless gentleman outside collecting change wearing nothing but jeans and a t-shirt. Today was FREEZING cold, and it’s snowing to. I’m cold and I’m in a GIANT insulated jacket – so I figure he’s probably freezing. I said hi to him and asked him if he was cold, and he said that yes he was cold but he would manage, and then wished me a blessed evening.
So, as I was getting my purchases rung in at the David’s store, I remembered this guy outside who had been very kind to me and who I could see was really cold. Even though I couldn’t really afford too much extra expenditures (I had budgeted money for this tea into my last paycheck, but didn’t really have any other money set aside for things other than bus fare, rent, and groceries) I decided that I’d get this gentleman a tea (plus, it wouldn’t hurt having the good karma on my side what with the fact I’m about to take on a huge amount of responsibility, and I’m training tomorrow).
I asked the salesman what he would recommend for a Tea to Go with the requirements being that the tea had to be able to withstand a very long steep time and have a very low risk for allergens. He looked a little confused at the requirements (like they were very unconventional things to request), so I explained that the tea wasn’t for me but the homeless gentleman outside who was probably freezing cold. He smiled, recommended Currant Affair (which I went with), and then told me that my tea was on the house. I assumed he just meant the Tea to Go (which was awesome because I really couldn’t afford it to begin with), but as he finished ringing everything in he not only gave me the Tea to Go on the house, but also my 100g tin of Choconut Oolong! So, all I paid for was the tea tins (an $8 total, approx.) – and I got about $20 worth of free tea! I feel so blessed, and I’m again just BLOWN AWAY with how amazing David’s is."
That is so awesome. I’m so glad the salespeople at DavidsTea have license to do things like this. And it’s so wonderful that you thought of the gentleman outside.
