Cast Iron Teapots

I like the idea of a cast iron teapot but I’ve never used one.

I prefer gravity infuser for my daily steeping needs. I’d love a cast iron pot, but I’m the type who puts their money on tea than tea gear, so I run on basic stuff. Hoping a family/friends will just buy me teaware, lol!

I have used them happily for years for my daily needs. never used gravity infuser (never heard of one till steepster) also want to get kyusu and some other traditional teaware.

I have had the same Tetsubin cast iron tea pot for 10 years. It provides much more heat than other methods and therefore has a different flavor. I also use a glass Bodum tea pot, but like the Tetsubin better. The iron holds more heat. It’s the same temperature, but there are more BTU’s. They say you should have one pot for each type of tea, i.e. white, green, pu-erh, etc., as the petina left behind from each tea will color the flavor. I found this out years after having my pot. I am sure that more delicate whites and green are changed, but I have not noticed a difference.

i own a tetsubin, and use it daily. wouldn’t go without it.
although i am looking for other teapots at the mo (a Yixing) i would never abandon my tetsubin. Pot holds temp. like anything else.
personally, find it the very best for green teas

My husband and I have four cast iron pots that we rotate through pretty regularly, as well as a glass Bodum pot. We LOVE the cast irons, because they consistently brew a very tasty cuppa (barring any user errors, of course).

I’m a gravity infuser guy. I can’t ever see myself going to a cast iron pot. I’m all about efficiency and practicality and they are not that.

Thanks guys. They are a bit heavy, but they totally keep the tea warmer than anything else.

I’m not a fan of gravity infusers and don’t use cast iron pots. I don’t leave my tea sitting in the pot so heat retention is a non-issue. I do enjoy cast iron cookware but for me a cast iron pot is cumbersome and unnecessary.
