Any decaf only tea drinkers?
What’s going on guys, I will only drink decaf tea because I have bad anxiety. I’m new to the world of tea in that I only am familiar with the generic local food store brands like lipton/sleepy etc.
I’m looking for some suggestions for some higher grade decaf teas, I love tea and the health benefits but just can’t really have the caffeine.
If you’re just starting out, Adagio has good samples and a lot of decaf teas! Stick to herbal and rooibos our simply decaf black teas! There are TONS and TONS of fun rooibos teas to try out. I only say Adagio because they sell samples and I like their decaf vanilla black tea a lot.
There was a long thread on decaf tea a couple of weeks ago. Look here for other ideas.

I like caff and decaf, but Rooibos and Honeybush are always in my cupboard. So if I had to go decaf, I’d be just fine.
Glad to have you here! The world of tea is open to people who are caffeine sensitive! What have been your favorite kinds of teas so far that you’ve tried from your local grocery store? Do you like tea with milk and sweetener? Yorkshire English Breakfast, decaf. is one I’ve tried lately that I like.
I would just like to share one thing: you may come across the information that you can decaf. your own tea by rinsing it, but I’ve read a very convincing, scientific explanation about how this does not effectively remove caffeine for the caffeine sensitive individual. I’m so sorry I don’t have a link, but I had to give up caffeine for a while, and I came across that info, tried it, found it did not work and then did some interwebs sleuthing.
I have to really limit my caffeine, so I enjoy rooibos, honeybush, and decaf teas as well as other herbal teas, such as lemon gingery types.
Cheers!
I’ve heard that you can lower caffeine by steeping the tea leaves in hot water for 30-45 seconds. This doesn’t remove all the caffeine, but takes out about 80-90%. It works well for me.
Unfortunately, this method has been proven a myth. I had tried this method back in the day on teabags but still found myself too wired to sleep. Plus the taste was diminished. See this article:

Or for a longer more in depth article that I found very informative:

I’ve found that in order to get decaf teas, I simply have to stick with herbals or whatever is labeled as decaf from the sellers. Fortunately, Harney has a couple of really good options. And David’s Tea has a great herbal section.
The wonderful book “Tea: History, Terroir, Varieties” has an appendix in which they explore the amount of caffeine produced during multiple steeps. They used a commercial laboratory to measure caffeine during multiple infusions. In general, there was not a significant decline in caffeine from one steeping to the next. After 8 minutes of steeping, there was still significant caffeine added in the next minute of steeping.
If you really need to reduce caffeine, you really need to go herbal or decaf.
For any decaf drinkers out there, we are finally adding a black decaf tea to our selection. We also want to make a flavored decaf tea. Are there flavors that are particularly lacking in the decaf world? Or just any flavors you would like to see in decaf?
I’m trying to brainstorm some flavors that I wish I had in decaf and can’t come up with anything. Surprise us? :)
I would love a good decaf flavored blend. I am trying to lower my caffiene intake!
Interesting ideas, thanks for the input. I might try some combination of what was recommended. Maybe an almond caramel or something similar.
OMG almond caramel…or ooh caramel cashew! I’ve never seen a cashew tea and cashews are my favorite nut! ;)
Stephanie-If I had cashew flavoring on hand I would absolutely try that. I love cashews and cashew butter is the most amazing thing ever. Maybe I will put cashew flavoring on my to buy list. :)
Lupica has a couple of decaf options. I tried the Sakurambo and Muscat the recently and they were both pretty good.
We have a variety of decaf black teas, including some decaf chais:
