Bingleys Teas...Jane Austen?

Has anyone ever had their teas? There aren’t any reviews on here and I was thinking of getting some of their Jane Austen blends….they come in a book!!! I’m a sucker for packaging.

I’m in a single author seminar this semester on Jane Austen, and we’ve had some discussion about how the “cult of Jane Austen” continues to prosper. This has to go on the list. ;)

This sounds like the makings of a theme tea party.

Thanks for sharing! I was toying (unsuccessfully)with the idea about creating Austen tea blends for Adagio, but this is just SO COOL.

I’d buy them if you created them on Adagio :)

:| I was just playing with the site to see how much it would cost to order Darcy and Elizabeth – $30 for the tea. $30.00 to ship to Canada… Yikes

The teas are $12, not $30. Shipping outside US is another story

I just meant it’d cost me $30 to buy both Darcy and Elizabeth – because if I did it, I’d want the ’ship. Guess I rounded up a little too high though.

All I need for my life to be complete is Anne of Green Gables themed teas…I wish I was exaggerating about that.

Also love how Mr. Collins is pu’er. Such a love it/hate it tea for a love him/hate him character.

Oh!!! Me too!!! I’m totally obsessed with Anne!

Yay! Another Anne lover. I’m in the middle of my yearly read through of the books. They never get boring.

Anne’s tea would definitely be interesting. Capturing her spirit in a tea would be challenging.

I’m with you on that one! I love Anne too!!

“Jane Austen was a loose woman too!”

I keep trying to imagine what Jane Austen would say if she saw that. I don’t think it would be nice! XD

Lariel said 2013-03-04 00:49:55 -0500

She’d say something really witty/ snarky?

maybe they were referring to her being into loose tea? lol.

Claire said 2013-03-04 21:34:49 -0500

I’m sure they are – since in Austen’s time there was only loose leaf tea though…

I have to agree with you Claire and say that Jane Austen wouldn’t be so pleased in seeing her name used like that. Doesn’t she have any descendants?

Small
Claire said 2013-03-27 10:41:09 -0400

I believe that she does, but I seem to recall that they don’t have the last name “Austen” anymore. I could be totally wrong, though.

I have asked because I am curious if they haven’t anything to say related to this marketing buzz made around their relative. I would if I were related, really.

Here’s a short article I found on some of her descendants and their feelings towards her popularity (and fair use): http://homepages.law.asu.edu/~dkarjala/opposingcopyrightextension/commentary/austen-wsj.html

Interesting article. I read it completely because I was really curious. It seems money make the world go round, huh?
