I collect teacups. The blingtastic gold one in my icon is probably my favourite. I also have a soup mug I drink out of, a pretty brown mug a friend gave me, one of the fox tail mugs, etc. I have more mugs than glasses! It depends on what I’m drinking, and also why I’m drinking. If I need caffeine I use the soup mug. If I want to savor the tea, I use a teacup or tiny mug.
I really want to love the David’s Perfect Tea Mug, but it’s just sooooo big!
12 ounces, but you don’t need to fill it the whole way as the infuser reaches 3/4 of the way down the cup. :)
Completely forgot about my mugtails, bear mug. really impracticle as a mug, but so damn cute!
I also forgot the mug I’m using for smaller amounts of tea right now, for single servings from the gravity infuser. It’s a standard size coffee mug with the words “Cup of Joe” on it and a picture of Joe Biden.
Oh, please post a picture of this mug!!! I have kind of a crush on Joe Biden, not really, but kinda.
I really like tea for one sets, because I can make more than a cup of tea at a time and yet they’re small enough so that it doesn’t get cold in between. I just steep the tea right in the little pot and then use a strainer to pour it into the cup. I have a couple of different ones that I use, but mainly use my little Vera Bradley one just because it’s so practical and the perfect size for me. I really wish they would make more of these in the new print colors!
I also have a lot of antique tea cups that I’ve been collecting for years. Right now they’re stored at the top of my cabinets, but as soon as it stops raining this week I am going to my mom’s to pick up a cute, tiny cupboard to store all of my teawares in so they’re easier to get to. So excited!
I want to start collecting tea cups. Any tips on how to get started?
I’ve found that garage sales are the best place to get nice teacups! Antique stores and ebay/etsy tend to be overpriced (except for depression glass, which you can get great deals on). A lot of people will end up with a stock of teacups from grandma or grandpa and sell them for $2-5 a pop with saucer.
My mom is the queen of garage sales, antique stores, Goodwill, etc. She just found me a really pretty silver butler’s tray at Goodwill for $1.99. Most of my collection has been gifts from my mom. We also live right down the road from Replacement’s Ltd. so I go there every once in awhile and browse through their discount section, and have found lots of nice little teacups in there. I agree with Alphakitty about Etsy/Ebay being overpriced, although sometimes you can really find some good deals if people are eager to get rid of something. Good luck!
My favorite Teacup is the Porcelain Lined Yixing Teacup from Mandala Teas http://shopmandalatea.com/tea-wares/cups-mugs/porcelain-lined-yixing-cup-4oz.html
The porcelain on the inside allows you to drink any tea out of these cups and the Yixing on the outside is a good indicator to how hot the tea will be before sipping! If the cups are too hot to hold ,then the tea is too hot to drink ;)
For most of my tea drinking, I use the ForLife Tall Tea Mug. (My teapots are also ForLife, and the mugs at Harney & Sons are the same size and shape.)
When I make a pot of tea to share, I use Fiestaware cups. They hold about 6 oz. and have a small handle to hold so that you don’t burn your fingers. And they come in lots of fun colors. I ordered mine factory direct so that I could get them separately without buying a place setting.
16 oz double walled white latte mug, with tea stains on the inside lip, with a silicone sleeve that my infuser fits into perfectly. Got it from the dollar store, like it so well I now have a set of 4, just in case. I also use glass canning jars too sometimes.
I have tea sets but rarely use them.
Right now I am in love with my FORLIFE Tall Tea Mug – http://www.amazon.com/FORLIFE-15-Ounce-Infuser-Black-Graphite/dp/B00178RRJG/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1362898561&sr=8-1&keywords=forlife+tea+mug
Found it at the local tea shop and got it. It’s nice, has a great ceramic top (which doubles as a saucer) and and an infuser that fits perfectly in it. Great mug, stays warm for a long time, and most importantly… makes great tea!
