Toronto Steepster Meetup?
Hey everyone!
Hubby and I are from Newfoundland, but will be travelling to Toronto from March 21-29. We were wondering if anyone on steepster in the GTA would like to get together for a cup of tea and a chat? We’d love to arrange something!
Also, we’re looking for suggestions for good tea spots… either just for a cuppa or to buy loose-leaf teas and teaware. We’re particularly interested in Chinese and Taiwanese teas, but any and all suggestions are much appreciated! :) Let us know! Looking forward to hearing from you all.
I’d be happy to get together for a cup of tea and a chat :) i won’t speak for some of the others in Toronto but it’s likely if they’re not busy they’d be willing to come out as well.

Argh, if you’re back sometime in the future and I’m still around, I’d definitely be in, but as it stands I’m likely too busy :(
I’d love to meet another Steepsterite!!
Golden Mint and Tealish are two other places you might want to check out. Tsaa, mentioned above, is my absolute fave. Also, Sloane Teas, if they are still open.
T-Buds is interesting as well, but overpriced if you ask me.

My suggestions? Stay away fromn Sloane at all costs — too snobby and overpriced. Majesteas leaves something to be desired in customer service, so forget them. (I mentioned a problem with their website a month ago, but they haven’t fixed it yet.) Tao has great teas, but they are pricey. Herbal Infusions has a few nice straight teas as well, with more moderate pricing. T-Buds has some good teas at good prices — a good overall choice. I have had some bad experiences with Tealish teas, so I’d avoid them.
And yes, I am very picky & fussy regarding tea shops. But I see no reason to accept sub-par teas or service.

Funny how individual experiences shape ones perception of a business. I’ve had nothing but stellar customer service at Majesteas and downright awful service/far too expensive food and tea at T-Buds. I’ve seen this so many times and not just in the tea business, and it always makes me wonder haha
Yes, I know what you mean. To be fair, T-Buds has given me good service overall, though one sales associate brewed a gyokuro with boiling water for me once!
House of Tea (which I neglected to mention previously) has probably the best senchas in town, but they are way over-priced.
Tea Emporium is a good choice for blacks, but the sales aasociates at MLG tend to be a bit aloof. Having said that, I have had some great talks with associates in their other stores (esp. one with an associate in the now-defunct Humbertown outlet).

I actually find that there aren’t many options in Toronto. I typically get out to more tea shops when I’m elsewhere :) most of my purchases also come from places outside of Ontario heh.
On that note, I’ve never had a problem with majesteas (but its a small shop) and I too am not a huge fan of tealish. For the most part, you’re also looking at places that want larger min purchases than some of the places I’ve lucked out with.
Shakirah – when it’s closer to your actual time here, drop me a PM. Depending on what you guys are up to, i may be able to join you for a cup of tea somewhere or just stop to chat. I can also let you know closer to that time my list of things i’m eventually putting up for swap in case you want any of it – i can drop it off with you to save sending it by post lol
