Looking for a tea pen pal.

I know it’s not much different then a tea exchange, but, it’s still something I think would be fun. I’d like to pair up with someone to send letters and small bits of tea too. Would anyone be interested in this kind of thing? Let me know. :)

Update: This has gotten more interest than I’d imagined, while right now I’m still accepting people that are interested in writing/receiving letters and such from me, please do feel free if you’re interested to poke someone else that’s shown interest. :)

I LOVE this idea! If I were not all consumed with getting my daughter ready for college, my husband trying to get on the police force, work, etc and so on… I would totally take you up on this offer! I think this is an excellent idea and one I will revisit later this year when I have more than enough time on my hands!
I hope your find your perfect pen pal!

When you get time, be sure to think of me! :) Maybe this will pick up steam and still be around then. :)

I haven’t had a pen pal since elementary school. Getting letters would be fun.

I haven’t had a pen pal since middle school. I don’t have a PO Box though………

I definitely understand the want of one, I haven’t gotten one yet either, but, luckily I can receive things at work. :)

I would be interested, especially if our interests in types of tea overlap.

Nick said 2013-03-07 22:51:31 -0500

Well, I’m still largely exploring things, so… my interests in tea are pretty wide. The only thing I’ve tried that I haven’t liked is a pu-erh, even after I learned that you’re supposed to wash it, it still just didn’t really appeal. But, I do kinda suspect it’s me, not the tea and there’s a good possibility there’s probably a pu-erh that I do like. :P

In that regards, I think it pretty likely that my interests overlap almost anyones, :) If you’re still interested let me know.

no problem, interested either way! I have had mixed results thus far with pu-erh myself :)

That’s an awesome idea Nick. Due to the Internet “we” don’t send letters to people like we use to.

I know right? I love getting mail, though. It feels a bit more personally connected than the internet. I might just be a weird new-age tea hippie though. :)

Nick, I am following you for messaging purposes, and I would love to be your pen pal! I write a fair bit of snail mail myself. Have you heard of the Letter Writers Alliance? http://16sparrows.com/LWA/

ooh have not heard of that, but I do postcard “crossing”….Looks like LWA is something I would be into, I LOVE letter writing, stationary, etc. Would be up for penpal-ing with you as well claire

The LWA is wonderful, Kasumi. The membership is inexpensive and lasts a lifetime, and they do penpal matching. I also signed up for postcrossing recently!
And edit to add: I will message you my address. :)

wonderful. I am a member of postcrossing, I know there are other postcard crossing sites too. When I got into tea swapping, an Idea I had was to set aside a day each week to bundle swaps and write the cards!

I haven’t heard of that, nor postcrossing. Will investigate both of those as well. I followed you back too.

Thank for making me discover Postcrossing and LWA i have always been a lover of words and handwriting ( i have a collection of paper and pen.. but never use them) but years of digital-only writing did make me really really bad with words and added lot of mistake to my sentence as you can all see in my tasting note :P

Claire, thanks for sharing the info about LWA! I’ve got to join. This is such a cool idea! I love writing letters, and usually end up just writing to my Oma. I’d love to write to pen pals again! :)

Absolutely, I’ll take as many as my budget can handle. I’m very delighted by the responses so far. :) Just PM me an address, since I’ve already got someone that’s volunteered to write to me first I’ll go ahead and write a letter at you if you’d like. :)

Great, I sent you a message with my address. I haven’t had a penpal for a while but had been thinking about getting into it – this’ll be fun for me :)

Nick, on another topic, I notice that you are new to the site and new to tea. I always recommend that people go to Teavivre’s website and sign up for their free tea tasting activity – in other words, they send you free samples of their tea. They have high quality product and great prices. Their customer service is excellent. At times, the China post can run slow but I have only had a long wait once when I used the free shipping option. If I pay for shipping it is very reasonable and pretty quick, and even the free shipping has been quick on a number of occasions. But it is worth it!

I’ve been to their website but completely missed that. I will go look. It sounds awesome, thanks! :)

Some of my best friends to this day started out as penpals over a decade ago. I sort of miss how the idea has faded as social media of today has taken over. Still have great friends across the country and internationally I keep in regular contact with and visit.
