Gave Up Soda Pop

Hey, So today I gave up Soda Pop and I’m going for tea as my drink of choice.. As I don’t care for water much on its own it seemed like a logical choice as i do love tea and have enough to survive a small war.. Ice tea and hot both.. Little worried about the sugar with drawls and the craving for soda.. any one else here gone through this? any pointers or info? I will try and be good til Vacation at least.. lol
Thanks

Hey, congrats on the decision. :D It’s definitely a healthier one. I’m not sure how much help I’ll be since I don’t like pop to begin with but if I were to make a suggestion, perhaps drink either an herbal tea or maybe even carbonated water when you’re really craving it. You could always add a bit of sugar to your tea when you’re needing the sweet as well. Better off with a sweetened tea than a can of pop.

I think the sweet part is not the biggest problem it will be just the ease of getting a soda at work or while out and about for diner.. stuff like that..

Ohh I see, that makes sense. Perhaps you could invest in a good traveling cup? For instance, DavidsTea’s Timolino can keep tea hot for hours, so maybe you could bring that along to work?

Speaking as someone who loves soda pop and tea (I drink soda in moderation. I drink tea to excess), the secret, for me, to avoiding the soda is to always have a pot of tea ready to be made. So I am always less than 5 minutes from tea if a craving hits.

I really do have a load of tea and I have a surprisingly good cheep electric kettle so I do have good tea on hand and now have 2 jug like pitchers in the fridge of cold tea one for work and one for here..

I use to drink a 2lt of Soda a day of my days off and on work days maybe half it was a load of soda

For the last few years+ I used to drink a couple cans of soda a day between work and home. Now after going off soda about a month ago, I can’t even stand to drink a half can of it if I’m home…though I can drink some if I get it from a fast food place. XD;
I pretty much just started keeping a full 4qt container of KoolAid in the fridge, so when I got thirsty I’d grab a glass of that instead of pop. I’d bring one of those metal water bottles full of it to work to drink instead too.
The same could be applied with just constantly keeping a container of cold brew tea in the fridge I’d think. I haven’t tried it personally since it’s still cold here and I want my tea hot. Lol. But summer is coming so I’ll probly take the dive and give it a shot. Hopefully I don’t ruin any of my tea with the attempt. Lol.

I just started drinking tea to help me kick the habit, so I am in the same boat. I have quit before though and my main recommendation is make sure you don’t suddenly drop your caffeine intake; last time I tried I used straight water as the replacement and had headaches for weeks. :(

I want the caffeine.. Love that Caffeine.. I just want to A. save a little dough (to buy more tea) B. Drop a few pounds not a lot just a few..

I took up drinking flavoured black tea when I cut back on the coffee. Some of the dessert teas are really good.

wise decision.
I haven’t had soda, or any beverage since school. I solely take tea or water. Don’t miss it at all.
When I have some honey in my tea when I have a cold, the sugar hits 10x as hard as when I was younger, as I am no longer used to sugar.

I use honey too when I have a cold. I also use an old remedy of my grandma’s for cold: an infusion made of onion peel.

There’s a lot of good suggestions in this thread already. I’ve recently had to do the same thing and I’ve found the best way to keep away from soda at work is to bring my favorite teas with me and constantly have a cup brewed. Either that or I bring a batch of iced tea with me. I normally just get water at restaurants but if I’m really craving something flavored I’ll get iced tea. It’s not normally very good, but it’s passable with some sugar added (and it’d still be a lot better for you than soda)
