Variable Temp Kettle Opinions?

I bought this one recently, it’s by Kalorik and I love it. Plus, the price was right (it’s just over $50). I’ve used the heck of it for the last month or so.

“Kalorik Cordless Electric Kettle, Stainless Steel”

Well got this one, I am shocked I found one in this price range with 0 plastic inside and for this price…I mean literally shocked, I have been looking for a month now, I am nutty about plastics so thanks for the link.

Crap, whats up with these kettles that claim to be totally stainless steal with crap like this inside them?

Its odd because in reviews people said that thing was totally stainless steel with 0 plastic, did they change this? Is yours like this?

Looks like silicone, so technically no it is not plastic. :/

sadly neither of those sites actually tested and compared how fast all of them boil, one of the most important factors, different designs can vary hugely, even with most all US models having the same 1500w power rating.

Consumer Reports has not yet tested electric tea kettles.

Interesting article but I believe the thread was about variable temperature kettles.

I got this Hamilton Beach one: http://www.amazon.com/Hamilton-Beach-40996-Programmable-1-7-Liter/dp/B0083I7THI/ref=cm_cr_pr_pb_t at walmart for $39, it’s not perfect, but it’s pretty great, and It’s nearly half the price of its nearest competitors.

Panasonic makes a 3 quart model similar to the Zojirushis. I love it, have used it for over a year. Paid $80 on Amazon.

I was looking at variable temp kettles in Housing Units last week. You dont get much change out of about £90 but HU are a very pricey shop although they are a great company to buy from

RIP my Bonavita Gooseneck 1L variable temp. Have had it for 2 years and now the sensor has gone all wacky on me. Tried cleaning it but still messed up. Might buy another one just like it because I can’t seem to find a better option for ones that don’t have plastic touching the water…

Stephanie,

Try contacting Bonavita Customer Service & Product Support first:
“We want you to be completely satisfied with your product.”

A satisfied customer is the best form of advertising money can’t buy. This is especially true since many Steepster members either own this kettle or may be considering the purchase of one.

Great idea, it can’t hurt to try. I will definitely tell them I’m considering the Kitchenaid model instead because of the 5 year warranty. If they want my business again the product should really last more than 2 years.

Agreed. Let us know what happens.

They were closed today for the holiday tomorrow. Can’t decide if I should fill out the contact form despite being not covered under warranty or wait and try to speak with an actual human via phone on Monday.

Filling out the contact form will at least place you in the queue for assistance, which should expedite a solution.

There have been examples in Steepster’s discussion forum of Breville (one of Bonavita’s competitors) taking care of issues out of warranty. For example:

GOOD NEWS EVERYONE! Randomly, this weekend I was operating the kettle to take a video clip to send to Bonavita to show them what it was doing wrong…and it started working again! I wasn’t the one using it when it stopped working. What I suspect is that my husband got some water into the base somehow, and when the water finally dried out it started working again. Anyway, I’m super happy because I love my kettle!!! <3

I have the Solis tea maker (also named Breville One Touch, depending on the country it is sold) and can highly recommend it.

While it’s not exactly cheap it makes perfect tea each time and you can either rely on the basic setting for each type of tea or customise to your preference.

It also has auto start and “keep warm” functions, which is great if you have the tendency to forget about it.

It’s very easy to maintain and operate and the tea always comes out just perfect.

I have two. A Black & Decker and also a Russel Hobbs. I never paid a lot for either but the Russel Hobbs was from Costco and was quite a deal. I prefer the Russel Hobbs because it seems to get the temperature more accurate. The B & D shows it heats up to the temperature I key in but I suspect it’s not the right temperature because my tea was not right.
