The perfect tea night at a cafe?

Hey all!
Just wanted to ask some questions and get some advice as to what you guys think would make a nice tea night/get together at a cafe. We are working with a local cafe to bring a ‘tea night’ to Miami. SO! my question is as follows:

What do YOU think would make a fantastic gathering for tea on a Wednesday night? We were thinking of having some samples from us, musicians, board games, laid back environment. Not necessarily for the tea experts, but warm enough for anyone curious to join.

Thoughts?

I think live music would be great!

Doing specific tea and food pairings.

Doing theme nights- this week green tea, next week white, etc.

Maybe developing some kind of tea trivia game, where people can learn more about tea. Have a prizes and stuff.

All your ideas sound great :)

I like the idea of theme nights. With respect to food pairings, are you thinking they are included in some fee or people buy as they wish?

I think you could do it a few different ways. You could have people purchase tickets to attend the evening which would cover so many cups of tea and so much food. Or you can have the cafe feature a few food items that would pair well with whatever theme you are going with, and customers could purchase that if they wish.

thanks Lala, I was thinking along your second point might work best.

I’m trying to think of ideas, but all I can think about is that I wish I lived in Miami so I could go to this tea night! (and drink all the tea)

Whereabouts in Miami? I was there a few years ago.

Things that I think would be neat to do:
Reach out to local artists and showcase their work. Maybe for one month at a time before moving on to the next one.

Have speakers come in to talk about tea. Maybe partner up with a local shop and feature one of their blends for the week. Then you can trade discounts, 10% off at each store/cafe. I know it sounds counter productive, but as long as they are in different neighbourhoods, it will drive business!

Bake goods with tea in them. Matcha shortbread, Earl Grey scones etc.

If you are making the blends yourself, host a focus group. People love to be involved with stuff like that! or you could make a contest to have the tea named after a customer.

Movie night!! If you have a place where you can fit a screen, or maybe a projector on a wall. Maybe charge a cover but offer a tea that fits with the movie like the movie Morocco, and then serve Moroccan Mint.

Sorry that’s all I have at the moment!

Some great points. Thanks! we are in South Miami/Downtown Miami. We are probably going to have some artists present.

Focusing art as well as musicians would be neat too.

These ideas are awesome.. Like the live music and art.. Yeah, you could have young visual artists exhibit their artwork.. In terms of themes, the whole thing could be themed. Eg. If it’s a green tea or asian tea night dress up like asians and have chinese tea cups and sit on th floor etc.. African nights.. Rasta nights, jam reggae or have a reggae band, hav a jamaican theme and drink herbal tea (wink, nudge, nudge) :) jus kidding (not really) but u can do so much with ur awesome idea..

I can only think of tea and piano music. They do wonders for the soul when combined.

That may work, but we have a pretty diverse crowd down here.

Indeed, well it seems that a good solution is to organize events with different themes like classic evening, Victorian tea afternoon, Japanese style and so on.
