Hooray, 1st Verdant order placed

I had to see what all the hubbub is about re: Laoshan Black and Laoshan Green. Looking forward!

And can I just say… their website is DREAMY! I’m an amateur web design geek myself, and I can’t get over how beautiful their site is. It also runs so smoothly and quickly. Every detail about it is a pleasure!

I hope you enjoy whatever you have selected – I always think of my Verdant Teas as being special treats to savour. I have trouble convincing myself to finish them off as I always want to have something magnificent on hand.

Thank you for the kind words, Uniquity.
I know what you mean about wanting to save special teas. When we first moved back from China, I wanted to try and save our friends’ teas as long as possible, for special occasions only, but then I realized that every time we opened a sealed package of Mrs. He’s Laoshan green or Wang Huimin’s tieguanyin, the tea turned an ordinary afternoon into something really special. Eventually, we ran out… and that gave us the push we needed to start Verdant Tea!

regarding Laoshan Green, be careful not to use water that is too hot, I found that even at 80degrees celsius the taste was quite bad. After 10 or so infusions I found out that I have to lower the temperature and I loved it :)

Thanks for the tip. I’m generally not a green tea fan because it is so likely to be bitter/astringent if not brewed just so. Wanted to try this one because of the rave reviews. Appreciate the advice. What temp exactly do you brew it at?

ScRyX said

I don’t know the exact temp, but I guess it was something around 75 degrees celsius, the tea is not THAT sensitive. I didn’t find it bitter or too astringent with water that was too hot, but rather the taste was flat and not as complex as I’d like it to be.

OK thanks!

One more tip for green teas: when you pour the hot water into your brewing vessel, try not to pour directly onto the tea leaves first. If you can pour onto the side of the vessel (like a tall tempered glass), there’s less risk of scalding the leaves. Alternately, you can always pour the water in first, then sprinkle the leaves on the top of the water after a few seconds in the glass.

Cool! I’m doing their free trial membership to get my hands on some samples from them this month! Excited to be surprised and try Verdant for the first time since everyone raves about them on here.

I’d like to hear how they are for you~ :)

Oh- how fun! We sent out some of this month’s Classic Club teas in the Bundle just today, so I’m very excited to see how everyone likes them. :)

Thanks so much for giving us a try! I learned to really love tea in Laoshan, so I’m always excited to see folks trying Laoshan Green and Black from the He family. We’ll be visiting them in just a few weeks, too, for the Spring harvest; the thought of drinking just-picked tea right there in Laoshan is so exciting!!

Thanks as well for the compliments on the website! Geoffrey does an amazing job designing the website so that everything we dream up actually works :) so I’ll make sure to pass along the compliments. Everyone here on Steepster has been such a big help, too, in suggesting improvements to the site and to navigation- improvements are always in progress, so it’s always really nice to see that they’re appreciated.

Great! That must be so special to try the tea right there. Really looking forward to my order arriving. I know it’s already in transit!

Ah, Laoshan Black! The Life-Giving Tea. :D That’s all we ever call it in this house. We just opened up our new supply last night, and it was lovely, even if I did accidentally make it WAY too thin, because I forgot to stop pouring the water. LOL! It was a great enjoyment enhanced by how we have been wanting to have more of it for month, but couldn’t get any due to going through a thankfully short period of forced austerity.

Did you like the new harvest?

Angrboda said

I did, although having about a third more water in it than it should have didn’t really suit it. :p I did see that some people felt the previous seasons were superior, but I’ll need to have it a few more times (properly) before I can come to a conclusion on that myself. I don’t expect that I’ll be able to tell a difference though. It’s been too long since I had it last.

Sil select said

fair enough! :) Only reason i’ll really know is because i can do a side by side when my sample from mecuryhime gets here. I suspect i’ll still love it even if it is different heh

Angrboda said

Inspired by your question, I just had a cup. Brewed properly of course, and I thought it was fine. As expected I couldn’t tell a difference, but then again it’s hard to compare something to a memory. The awesome ones are always remembered as even better and the awful ones always even worse. I’ll keep an eye out for your conclusion.
