Do You Have a Tea Budget?
My husband is an audiophile and he has deliveries all the time too and so we know all of the guys UPS, USPS (the best one retired:() and Fedex on a name to name basis. LOL! We actually place bets on whose delivery it is that day or if we both get a delivery that works out best because we are both happy.
Mine is “do not buy more tea than will fit into the tea cupboard” and “creatively stuff as much tea into the tea cupboard as you possibly can”.
My tea purchases come from monies not related to household expenses. There are times when I have money in that account and times like now when I don’t. Since I started drinking tea about two years ago, I have spent a lot of money on tea, tea pots, tea related stuff…my hubbie just groans. This is the ONLY thing that I really splurge on, so I ignore him..LOL…Right now my cupboard has slimmed down, my tastes have changed. The tea I love right now is Ceylon, I drink it morning, noon and night. But with warmer weather coming on, there is no telling where my tastes will lead me next. I think that is what keeps me interested in tea.
Budget? What’s that? …stares guiltily at checking account… Ok, so I’ve really only splurged in the last couple months but with the number of teas I now have I think I’ll be holding off on any more for a while until I’ve emptied a few tins. Most of my stuff is samples anyway. I know I rarely drink the same thing twice in a row, my tastes change with my mood and the weather, so most of the time I buy sample sizes so I have enough to last me a while with the variety but not enough of a single kind that I feel guilty about letting it sit or have to fear it going bad. If I anticipate a larger purchase I try to make sure to talk to my hubby about it first (like for a couple of the lovely limited teas from The Tao of Tea).
My problem is I have wholesale accounts with many tea companies. Dont really have a budget as selling tea pays for my own. I get a lot of free samples from most companies I use.
I’ve splurged recently (hello 6 month subscription to 52teas), but I try not to have more teas than what fits in my tea cupboards. I have my staples, so when the rest of the collection gets a bit out of control, I give some away.
That 6mo subscription isn’t as bad as it may be for someone in the US, cuz didn’t you say that you can have a hard time finding good tea at times based on your location?
Oh no, its an excellent deal where ever you are – even with paying for the extra shipping to New Zealand I think its about $14 per bag, which is what you usually pay for a 100g of some generic flavoured loose-leaf bought from the same vendor as all the other companies here use. We have barely any tea here :(
Oh it is an excellent deal anywhere, I just meant you can play the “well we don’t have any good tea here” card a lot easier hehe;) I’m the queen of making rationalizations/excuses:)
