:( I have around 600 grams of tea. 150 tea pots later….

SFTGFOP said

Think I’m close to the 450 gram mark.

Maybe I can buy some when I’m down to my last 2 ounces because it will take some time for the tea/mail to arrive…

SFTGFOP said

okay, down to 240 grams or so. I think. I’m getting happier though, my tea cabinet has the teas lined up, and every couple of days I knock out another one.

While I hate to think of tea drinking like this, I needed to work through some of these older teas.

SFTGFOP said

Well, I went down quite a bit, and then I cracked and bought some more tea.

I’ve been drinking “Imperial Ceylon” from Tea Palace (I think this was the tea that I’ve given my lowest rating to). I force myself to have a pot of it every day, and only 2 days left of this crappy tea!

SFTGFOP said

Around 110 grams. I’d say success at this point. :)

I forgot to update that I cleared out my teas! Huzzah!

I’m excited to share that I have not bought… oh wait, I just realized I did, but I bought the tea for the tin. Does that count? Other than that I have been really good and haven’t bought tea in months. Staying off of Steepster has helped curb my enthusiasm for new teas, but I do miss it here. Cold brewing teas over the summer has helped cut down my hoard and I discovered a new appreciation for green tea cold brewed. My next order is going to be with Nina’s when I finally make more room in my pantry.

Dustin we’ve got a Jasmine Green that’ll blow your mind as a cold-brew. And we’re using real Jasmine flowers, not some scented hair spray-like aroma additive which we don’t have to list on the ingredients! Our Single Estate producer gets the Jasmine in there by actually rolling the tea in it, six or seven times. I wold really like you to have this experience :)

This Jasmine is not on our Etsy shop yet, but I believe you can go there and request a special order.

I got a few free samplers, and therefore justified ordering from Della Terra. Not opening until Halloween, so it almost counts as next month.

The one sampler I did buy was for my b-day.

Its been a while since I posted. I feel like I have been doing awesome on my “don’t deprive yourself from buying, but don’t go out of control” hiatus. I feel like I am finally in control of my tea cupboard(s). I have bought a few teas but have managed to keep it to just a few teas at a time and not a giant haul of teas every time I go. I have also managed to keep online ordering to a minimum, except for Xmas pre-orders. So we will see what happens. I am actually not even interested in Black Friday sales. (We will see if that holds true come Black Friday…). I think I also figured out that free samples and free giveaways are a bad idea for me. I ended up with tonnes of tea I didn’t really want, just because it was free. So I am a bit more picky now with giveaways. If I know I don’t like a certain tea, I am not going to order if just cuz it is free. I think I have finally got a hold of which teas I want to keep in my cupboard, so I am not buying tonnes of stuff all the time.

I echo these thoughts..i’m finding the same, i’m only 25 away from hitting my 150 goal and though i’ve been buying a few things here and there it’s way more manageable :)

You guys, I am out of control lately. I have four orders on their way in…not huge orders, but orders all the same. I haven’t begun my Christmas shopping but yet I’ve managed to get new teas. Oh dear. I made the mistake of trying Butiki’s Mi Xian and Taiwanese Wild Mountain Black, and I loved them so much, they somehow morphed into ordering Laoshan Black and more of both Mi Xian and Taiwanese Wild Mountain! Gah!

bwahahahaha welcome to the mad house! :)

Courtney… I know you have a problem… And I don’t want to help you fall off the wagon… but so long as you are buying Taiwanese tea please do try the real thing. We are based there and we buy from real award winning Taiwanese Tea Farmers.

For example we are sampling a Ruby Black this month, which is not only first prize winner in Taiwan, but also organic.

So please…. Before you quit, try one little bit :)

Courtney, I feel your pain, LOL. To place one order is, for me, to place at least 3 or 4. Once I place one, it seems to somehow open the floodgates of spending, & justifies ordering everything I’ve been thinking of getting. Although I didn’t order anything the entire month of Oct, a part of me is really itching for it. I just keep reminding myself, I still have tons of tea here!

I need to sipdown my Spring/ Summer teas before I can get anything from a Winter collection. Which will be in time to order (Winter proper.)

Me too!! Especially since I have 2012 (which still taste good) & 2013 versions in my collection.

Well I was doing really good. My cupboard was down to 104. I was so looking forward to getting down under 100. I haven’t seen below 100 since I started steepster. Then I got my 52 teas kickstarter campaign teas and it ballooned my cupboard back up to 115. I think I will survive though. I don’t count this as a “buy” per se because I was donating to a good cause and got tea as a thank you. I still have my 52 teas 12 days of xmas coming and will probably be contributing to the SBT campaign soon. I shouldn’t stress though, I am well below the 167 that almost gave me a nervous breakdown, and it is not 300, so I should look on the bright side (or tea side) of things :)

I feel like my tea spending habits have been slowly changing towards the better (ie. not so much), but there are so many good deals coming out for the winter/holiday/xmas season. At least my tea will keep me warm this winter.

I try and keep my spending to <£50 a month but if my collection is building I’ll use that to buy some really nice teas. This month is only four items but I paid £27 for 4 × 50g bags.

Yeesh, it’s been MONTHS since I last posted! Thought I’d check in with my progress. My goal is to get down to 15 by New Year’s, and I’m down to 27 now. I’d rather keep my stash small. I’m past my “try All the teas” phase and now know which group I want to focus on (Japanese greens). Also, I’m a jobless student. Hopefully not jobless by the time I graduate!

So I’m doing very well! When I made my excel spreadsheet in July, I started out with 74. I had maybe up to 90 before then. I did make a couple purchases since then but they have been small, though the sales were great and I’m mostly done with the teas.

Wow, congrats!

Thank you! Now I just have to plow through teas that are over 1 ounce. Urgh, multiple steepings xP

Dustin said

Holy crap, 15 is your goal?! That is like tea anorexia! I’m impressed with 27! I don’t even count my teas. I don’t want to know.

I want to keep my stash small and in control, mostly because I don’t have a full-time job (still a student). The maximum’ll definitely be raised one day.

I hadn’t ordered tea since July but Mandala just killed it. I am back to the guilty place. It’s a nice place.

Sil select said

since july is awesome! go you!

Wow! It’s only been since Sept 30th for me, although that binge was a doozey! I’m impressed with your self-control!
Now…what did you get from Mandala? (Vicarious tea ordering syndrome, living & enjoying life through the tea orderings of others).

Sil select said

pssst terri – she posted in the order thread what she picked up :P

oh…right…so many threads to read!

graceatblb said

I actually had to put a parental lock on the Mandala site to make it. I ordered the GABA Oolong and the new black tea.

And also, I just looked at my Mandala account. Last order was in September. And I completely forgot about it. Is that even normal?
