Tea Buying Hiatus Support Group

Some of us don’t even pretend to be on hiatus.

Does review samples and supporting the local shops count?

Have I resurrected a monster?

Or the monsters…in ourselves?

My latest hiatus has lasted about 6 months when I decided just to drink my favorites as well as what I have from TTBs. I bought a little on vacation but that hardly counts :D

yssah said

of course coz it was vacation XD

Also, tea on your birthday doesn’t count, either!

Of course it doesn’t esp with gift cards wink wink!

“I’m not going to buy anything for a while.”
two days later…
“Well, I lasted two days.”

I’m only going to buy from the local shops this month. That way it counts as groceries or souvenirs from the city.

I often go through periods where I only buy locally. I figure I’m helping support the local shops so they stay in business. I think independent brick and mortar shops must have a hard time. So…. I’m just being a good tea citizen :D

It still counts a breaking the hiatus but it’s my good deed for the tea world.

One local shop raised there prices, but I still got the tea I wanted. Because I am a good tea citizen. (It still counts as groceries.)

Between Butiki going out of business and traveling that allowed me to explore new tea shops, I went a bit crazy buying new tea over the winter/spring. I’ve done really well this summer with only 1 tea purchase during a visit to the Twin Cities..and I had a gift card, so that doesn’t really count! I’m trying to stick to just sipping down what I already have (and MAYBE participating in a TTB or two) through the end of the year…we’ll see how I do!

I’m with you there! Butiki + Paris = trying to be good for the rest of this year..

Inkling said

Paris??? So jealous!

(currently working on a time machine to bring Butiki into present time)

@inkling – my wallet didn’t thank me but my tastebuds did heh

@Liquid Proust – Pull that one off and you’ll make a fortune! Stacy is sorely missed around here.

So, by the looks it… it might be cheaper to just clone Stacy and have her clone bring Butiki back. However, I ran into three problems:
1) The ethics of cloning
2) The ethics of enslaving a clone to make tea
3) I am not rich enough to afford the cloning :(

and
4) Stacy would have to agree to it :p

Wow, that is depressing. That’s what I get for being on hiatus for so long (and being scarce from here as I didn’t even know about Butiki). Now I’ll never get to buy from Butiki, and it was one of the places I was looking forward to trying once I finally came out of hiatus. Which still hasn’t happened. Sigh.

My hiatus last roughly 13 to 14 days and then payday comes… the order money goes: rent, credit card payments, and tea. The rest seems to be optional in life, such as: food, phone bill, gas, car insurance…

I tried to go on hiatus. I thought if I just did swaps, that would be a way to get new tea without actually adding to my ridiculous collection. It didn’t last. I am looking to place another order with White2Tea because I had a couple of shengs from there, one in particular, that made me sort of lose my mind. And now I want more. You know that feeling when you try a tea and it’s so good, YOU MUST HAVE MORE OF THAT TEA NOW, you must buy it before it runs out, because what if it’s gone forever and you never get to have any of it again?

This whole process has been a lesson in attachment and suffering. The tea teaches in so many ways, doesn’t it? Anyway, I really and honestly need to stop for awhile and drink what I have. Famous last Steepster words :-(

lol. i hope it’s not poundcake coz all they have left are sample sizes for now i think

curlygc said

It is Poundcake, but he is getting a bit more in stock soon. Shhh, don’t tell anyone!

yssah said

actually i heard that he has some in the new hq too but no news when it’s available yet :D

That’s the worst part for me. The “this tea is so amazing I have to buy a small stockroom full of this tea because I can’t ever imagine my life without it”. I’m trying really hard to slow down but it’s hard. I’m planning to go through the cupboard and pull out all the ones that are not my favourites or ones I don’t drink and use them up first then really see which ones I love.
Hopefully it helps… Plus I’m making more lattes and iced teas. That uses a lot more tea.
