Funny how this thread always becomes popular the week after Black Friday.

=D I was trying to revive this thread the week before Black Friday. Haha, it didn’t work very well.

I was going to make a new topic, but this post seems to fit here. So:

Would somebody PLEASE buy the Jianshui Zi Tao 80ml teapot from Crimson Lotus? I keep looking at it, and it’s so adorable and perfect and I want it, but if I buy it it won’t just be the teapot, I’ll buy a bunch of tea pets and tea and before I know it I’ll spend like $200 and then I’ll be riddled with guilt for spending all that money on myself right before Christmas. And I’ll hate myself for not doing that a few weeks ago when there was actually a flippin SALE. And when it comes I’ll be all like “Oh my God, I love this adorable little pot!” but I’ll be completely frozen with indecision about what kind of tea to dedicate to it. If someone would just buy it, I feel like I can move on with my life.

I would brew young sheng in it, because that’s my favorite tea. NOOOOO!!!!!!!!

I sympathise with your problem:-). Luckily I have bought most of my pots locally but I love smaller pots and am now tempted to see if one of my sources has new stock:(.

My most recent window shopping love was 280$ so that is not going to happen but I have wasted hours looking at cups on aliexpress lately and I know I am going to buy at least a few over the next few weeks.

On the other hand if you do cave at least it wasn’t on huge discount when it was on sale. Those pits are very cute:-).

I admitted to my wife that I was still obsessing about the pot and her response was “BUY THE FECKIN’ POT ALREADY!” Which I took as pretty much tacit permission to buy the pot. Which I did.

I need counseling.

An update on my tea situation: I haven’t placed an order since Black Friday, but it’s getting harder and harder not to succumb. Walls are closing in. Cupboard has potential empty spots for new acquisitions. Tax refund on the way. Someone throw a bucket of ice water on me. If you happen to steep some tea in there first, that would be fitting.

Throws sweet sticky iced tea

Maybe it’s time to arrange a swap? Or do the “try every tea in my cupboard at least once” project. Or just go ahead and buy more tea. ;)

@ yssah: And now the ants will come for meee.
@ Lindsay: Trying to do the whole shuffling teas around thing for the moment. I’ve gotten through a lot of my Butiki stash that way.

I Havent bought any (decent) tea this year! I’m learning the art of the sipdown before things get too intense in my room.

Apart from the YS monthly tea club. Buts thats a club, not buying tea, right?

This is all probably going to go to hell when the first wave of fresh tea comes out. But until then I’m trying to keep it in my wallet.

I’ve got tea falling off my tea shelf because there isn’t enough room for all of it, so I’m trying to force myself not to buy any more until I finish a lot. It’s hard though. I recently finished off a sample of a Kenyan black tea from What-Cha that I absolutely loved and then I checked their site and it was on sale.

fail

haha. I have stopped going to vendors, its too tempting

Nooo! I’ve promised to buy no more tea until a trip at the end of the month. I’m deleting all sale emails as fast as I can.

Getting new tea is nice, but I find a break can also be a good way to find new things to appreciate in the tea you already have. I’m drinking some Thai oolong from What-Cha that I at first thought was very woody tasting and too similar to some other teas I had been drinking around the same time, but as I drink more of it I start to appreciate the nutty notes more. I had a similar experience with an oolong a while back last time I made myself take a tea-buying break. I thought it was kind of bland, but by the time I finished it I was sad to see it go.

I committed the cardinal sin of doing some unneeded spring cleaning around the house.

Those freshly emptied cabinets are yawning black holes eager to suck in new teas.

I stocked up on black friday sales. I’m on hiatus for buying until I’ve tasted all the teas I bought or until the midwest tea festival. I have an order for What-cha that I want to make, but I’m trying to be good. Which means no window-shopping.

hawkband1 said

Which means I shouldn’t browse Whispering Pines. Had to force close that window. Just the white cake sounded awesome. I’ll just have to sample faster.

Broke the hiatus to order from What-Cha and Whispering Pines today. I made it 2 months!

I’ve been trying to sip down my tea and I’ve made a small dent it. Based on how many teas I have and based on how many teas I have in a day, this stash could last a year or more. No kidding!! I do plan on going through some of less favourite teas and listing them here for either swap/buy/give. Mostly those teas tend to be shu or roasted oolongs. I’ve got a few more teas to try in that category and then I’ll have my list.

This makes me think of how my cupboard exploded. I’ve made some mistakes in the past and this is what tends to do it:

1 – Getting carried away with Black Friday sales. I’ve ordered too much. What I need to do in the future is keep my orders small.

2- Trying out a big sale with a new seller and ordering too much of an untried tea. Yes, I am stuck with a Dan Cong and Yabao that I find okay but not my favourites.

3- Joining the monthly subcriptions. This is the worst culprit of them all! The teas tend to pile up big time! You don’t get that thrill of placing a new order because teas just keep coming and coming and coming! I think I will avoid all subcriptions unless I can do a monthly one time only one. I really lose track of my cupboard with the monthly subscriptions.

Number 4 is buying whole cakes of puerh. They last forever.

Ubacat said

No kidding! I’ve done that too.

Psyck said

I’ve never joined any monthly subscriptions, I like to have better control over what I order.

Buying during sales or buying cakes, both do require a lot of planning and background work to ensure that you do not regret your purchases.

My fingers were itching pretty badly a while back. I really wanted to buy about everything White2Tea had and thought I could justify it because I don’t have a lot of pu-erh and I want to get into it more, and because it was a reward for getting a new job. But when I looked at all the tea I still had, I resisted, and after a while the urge went away. When I look at all the bills that have come in lately, I’m really glad I was able to resist…
