I am going to have to start the hiatus again because I broke and bought the Special Dark pu’er from Mandala. If I can make it to my birthday, June 14th, I’ll be happy—and so will my wallet.

If you can make it to your birthday, you can make other people buy you tea as gifts!

Chizakura said

I like Dustin’s plan. Do ittt~ :D Then you still get the tea, but not the guilt.

graceatblb said

Oh how I wish people asked my input when buying me birthday presents. And most of my family HATE tea. Hopefully money and then more tea :)

Chizakura said

My family is OBSESSED with lists. xD Haha. We demand lists from eachother when birthdays and Christmas come up. xD
On the plus side, we always get stuff we actually wanted. :)

graceatblb said

I wish my family had that level of organization. We agonize about it and very rarely get it right.

Dustin said

Use an Amazon wish list and when anyone asks what you want, send them to your wish list. They even have a “universal” feature where you can add stuff from other websites.

My birthday is 5 days after! I’m also trying to hold off on tea (and other things) until then. Happy almost birthday, Gemini!

ARGH!! Darn 52 teas sale and reblends got me. Just snuck up right behind me and before I knew it, forced me to sign into my paypal account! Oh well. Whats done is done. Time reset to 0 and counting.

Sil select said

noooooo lala! i’m tempted but i’m trying REALLY hard to stay strong.

Lala said

Stay strong, you can do it! Don’t let my downfall get the best of you.

Chizakura said

Sales are like playground bullies. They shove you into your paypal account and take your lunch money. D:

Well said Chizakura. They take advantage of our weaknesses.

Della Terra really needs to stop having those try me pack sales. It makes me order too much new teas to try.

Mad at The Man, so decided to do Tea Retail Therapy, and spent lots of $$ at David’s stocking up. Was hoping to make it to birthday in early June without buying more, but there you have it…Ah well. Must make it to birthday without more purchases…3 weeks to go…

I didn’t fall for the 52Teas sale! :O (Partially thanks to Sil yelling at me, and partially because the Marshmallow Genmaicha sold out while I had it in my cart and was browsing/playing with numbers).

A big part of it was realizing exactly how little 2oz is, and how even with the sale, $14 or so for one tea (with shipping to Canada) isn’t really worth it. Or not often worth it. So, barring my DavidsTea mini-binge ($20 on tea), I’ve been good. No online orders!

I really want to order Pu’erh from Tealux though. #wait #doooit

Me too! I saw the 52 Tea’s promo email come in and I was like “ooooh shhhi” but was able to calm down and not buy any.

Is it considered a victory or a failure when you buy a completely unnecessary e-reader instead of buying more tea? Cause that’s what I did.

Chizakura said

I sort of did that too. I ordered books online instead of tea. I went to the mall. I forced myself not to buy tea. … cough and then I bought two books from Coles. What-the-heck-self. Dx

TeaLady441 said

Ooooh! Which e-reader? I was just daydreaming about maybe using my bday money this year to get a new Paperwhite kindle to upgrade my 3rd gen one. But the old one works fine – I just like the light option…

graceatblb said

I just did the same exact thing. I am a complete weakling when it comes to book sales and there was a huge one today. Two boxes of books, an e-reader and more pu’er. Bad Grace.

graceatblb said

I got a Kobo Aura HD. I was going to get the Paperwhite but I need to be able to sideload books. I already have a Nook Simple Touch that I love and a Sony Digital Edition that I hated.

TeaLady441 said

That’s cool. The Aura looks very nice too! I’d possibly go that route if it plays well with Calibre (which I use to convert book formats to throw on my kindle.) I guess I can’t buy any new reader unless I’m sure it’ll work with Calibre, but I like being free to get ebook wherever, even if it’s not the most convenient.

I had the 5" Sony and I hated it too.

TeaLady441 said

I totally want the Aura now. :) Happy reading!

graceatblb said

The only problem with it is its lack of cooperation with Calibre but I can’t argue with that screen resolution. I can’t wait for it. I’m such a geek in so many ways.

My Sony was evil. It froze every other page and deleted books randomly. Sometimes while I was reading them.

TeaLady441 said

Well the dev is pretty good at updating Calibre, so I wouldn’t be surprised if it was supported later if it isn’t now. I love the size of it, although I’m not too sure about the interface. I haven’t really played around with Kobo’s OS. Can you organize your books onto shelves?

And that’s brutal dude! I just didn’t like my Sony because it was so slow and the Sony bookstore had a terrible selection, and the software to sync your books (no wifi) was the barely funtional.

graceatblb said

I was watching a video on Youtube and the interface looks pretty spiffy. It keeps track of your reading stats. How geek awesome is that? It does allow you to create shelves and it shows them on your home screen with your reading progress and stats.

TeaLady441 said

:O Yeah that sounds really amazing. I’m getting that much closer to thinking about an upgrade for my birthday!

Well, I finally found out how to have an effective hiatus. Have nausea for days on end. If I think about drinking anything other that water or maybe (maybe) something carbonated, my stomach turns.

I can’t even read tasting notes without getting queasy. Just typing this is making me a little on the barfy side, because it’s making me think of flavors. Ugh, flavor.

Anyway, hope everyone is well, and I un-highly recommend illness as a cure for overspending. :)

Dustin said

Oh no! Hope you feel better soon and the nausea at the thought of tea doesn’t last!

I fell off the bandwagon. Sloane pop up shop was 50% off so some teas were below cost. They never do this kind of sale. It’s not like other companies that do sales all the time. And they had a few of th chapters exvlusives there. And ok sale. Oh well. Made it 2 weeks….start again!

LOL, oh well, you weren’t gonna make it down to 200 by June anyway!
Does that mean I can go nuts & buy some stuff too?

Sil select said

No Terri! Say strong! This was a once every two year sale or it wouldn’t have happened!,

oh…sigh…I’ll be good…;)

Must stop getting the sample packs. No new orders until Autumn.

Sil select said

AUTUMN! omg i couldn’t go that long… lol

I like the season, I have enough Spring tea.

Yeah I’m afraid I will barely hold off until June at this point!

I have to join this group. I just have so much good tea that it is hard to justify buying more without drinking may way through part of what I have. Unfortunately, I recently came up with a great blend for my palate, and one of the teas was getting low in stock. Of course I caved. My stock up tendencies are so bad when teas that I love are limited. Anyway, it will be fun to drink though some of the good stuff this summer. I am hoping to make it until September before I order again. Yes, I have that much tea.

And everyday should be a day for the ‘good’ tea, just like it should be for the ‘good’ dishes, linens, etc. Who else will enjoy the ‘good’ things if you don’t?

Jen, I could probably never buy tea again & still have plenty to drink for the rest of my life. I agree with your statement about enjoying ‘good’ things. No doubt about it!
