Finally bought plane tickets to Europe for July, including Paris, so there can be no acquisition of tea before that because I will be coming home with a suitcase full of Dammann Frères! I have a Verdant order in transit that will bring me back up to 170, but otherwise I am hoping to get down to 140 before I go!

SOO JEALOUS!!!! I really wanted to go to london for the BBC proms this year(sigh)

Ooh, good for you! I hope you have a wonderful trip.

Woah!! Have tons of fun!

Lala said

Take me with you…please!

Maybe you can meet Ysaurella for tea!

Dinosara said

Yes, I’m super excited! It’s a quick trip but tea is high on my list of priorities. :)

I didn’t realize I had a problem until it was pointed out to me by others. Cries of “Stop buying tea!” and “you’re an addict” were heard. Thing is, I don’t even have that many, but when one goes from never drinking tea to constantly drinking tea, I guess it’s a problem! I drink a lot of them iced, especially with the warm weather arriving. I’ve also boozed some. I’m particularly addicted to fruity infusions from DAVIDs TEA and that stash is rapidly dwindling. Itching to order.

Dexter said

“don’t even have that many” is relative to budget/storage space/ and your perception of enough. If you are happy with your stash, don’t listen to them…. Some people think 10 is out of control, I would like to stay under 100.

I’m trying to get my stash down to under 200, LOL

Dexter said

LOL maybe I should rephrase, I would be very happy to stay under 100. Regardless of what my cupboard says here, I’m not even close to under 100. (I don’t have any of my samples/swap samples listed – only teas I have quantities of. I have a box with hmmm I’m guessing 50 in it, but I’m scared to count.)

Nxtdoor said

Thank you, dexter. Thanks to your reply I will be guilt-free for a day or so :) I placed a new order last night and was feeling buyer remorse, I guess.

Thank you Dexter…makes me feel better. Have small stash, but am looking to expand. Don’t feel so guilty now.

Dexter said

Best advice I have is to buy small quantities. IMHO it is better to have a little of several teas than a lot of a few (or a lot of several you don’t like). Swaps are an amazing way to try lots of different teas without having to buy large amounts.

So I feel guilty for all the wrong reasons. A friend stopped by today with a belated birthday present. A whole bunch of Davids Tea. Now don’t get me wrong, I love the present, but even though I didn’t buy it, it added a whole lot of tea to my cupboard. I was trying to get my tea cupboard(s) under control. Oh well. Start over, and enjoy some new teas. At least I wasn’t the one that bought it.

Dustin said

Yeah, that doesn’t count. You don’t get to feel guilty for that one. I mean, what else are your friends supposed to get you for your birthday anyways? Tea is perfect! :)

I agree with Dustin. You didn’t buy it yourself! :D And you can share with friends, right?

Lala said

That’s true. I shouldn’t feel guilty, but I mostly feel guilty about everything. Ha ha. It was one of the best surprise birthday presents I have gotten actually.

Tea hiatus FAIL! D: Laoshan Black Chocolate Genmaicha sold out… I was going to buy that in June, but it’s gone. D: Heart broken.

Lala said

That’s crappy. But on the brighter side, maybe you can swap for some. That way you are not buying it, and you can get rid of some other teas in your cupboard.

Sil select said

doh. That happened with me for LB as well. Ah well..more other teas to drink until it comes back :)

Chizakura said

Whimper. D: I’m pretty new with Verdant, do they tend to re-make their blends? Or is this a once it’s gone, too bad sort of deal? If so I can wait, but otherwise WHIMPER D:

Lala said

I assume there will be more after the next loashan harvest. That is what happened for me. I wanted some loashan black and it was sold out. So I signed up for the newsletter and was able to buy some next time it was in stock. I am sure the Verdant team would be able to tell you when they would expect to have more.

Sil select said

I’d ask lily/david about the blend coming back, they’re good at responding to those sorts of questions as lala mentioned. LB will be back i assume since it’s a regular, so it stands to reason that the blend should be back too if it sold well :)

Chizakura said

Maybe I’ll drop them an email, thanks. :D

I hope it does come back. I didn’t even get to try it before it sold. Dx I’m now stressing about the Bergamot Rose Laoshan Black, as I also wanted to try that and that one is now low stock as well. Considering just doing my June order now just so I can still get one of the teas I wanted to try, you know? o_o;

Dexter said

Chizakura I just got a 2 oz bag of Laoshan Black Chocolate Genmaicha in the mail last week. I haven’t tried it yet, so not sure how much I’d be willing to let go. If you find out that you can’t get any, let me know and I would be more than willing to swap enough of it for you to try (or more if I don’t LOVE it).

Dinosara said

If the teas are listed under the “out of stock” tab and not the “archived” tab (which LB chocolate Genmaicha is, as well as other LB blends), they will be reblended once the new picking of the base tea comes in. Bergamot Rose has been in and out of stock for several cycles now, so I wouldn’t expect it to go anywhere. Don’t worry! They’re not as limited as they sometimes seem.

Hello, my name is Lynxie and but I don’t think I am an addict……or I am in denial. I am primarily a fan of flavored teas, of black, white some greens and some oolongs. I also like herbals and some mate teas from Teavana. Somedays I am able to resist the siren call of my tea cupboard, but other days I am impatiently watching the clock for time to go home and have a cup. Other times I won’t think of having any tea and then I will crave the tea that has caffeine and it will be too late in the evening to have. Other times I would just growl at the clock and bear the consequences of having caffeine so late.

Will be starting a new class soon, and hopefully be getting a new job out of it. So going to try and use the Tea Buying Hiatus wisely by sipping down a lot of my teas, particularly the Teavana Teas I don’t like, til Mid/late June. (Right now got about 20 teas from Teavana alone that I don’t like! heh. After I get the swap I agreed to do sent out, I just might offer up some of those for a give away.)I got a $10 coupon from Teavana that is good til June 30th so going to try and wait til then to go. Last night I went to Teavana’s website to see what the suggestions were for blending, and wrote them down, particularly of teas that I already had, and bonus if the suggestion was of a tea in the ‘Never get again’ category. Now buying wise….I don’t have a credit card so for the most part I am able to resist the online sales, discounts and other deals, even though there are a few companies that accept gift credit cards and some of them are ones I am insanely curious about…….but for the most part strongly prefer going into a store and taking my time, sniffing various teas. The factors that Teavana is a bit pricy and that my favorite independent store is almost an hour away. On the other hand though, occasionally Republic of Tea manages to drag me in and buy a canister, even though for the most part I have found most of the teas that I’ve tried to be….uninspiring, particularly for the price they charge. I would rather they have their sachets in a box of like 15. About the only one I still really like is the Blackberry Sage, which I got in loose leaf. I also tried a flavor of 2 Leaves and a Bud, their Alpine Berry….it wasn’t bad but not terribly inspiring.

My husband did our finances today in Quickbooks. It was a little embarrassing. So all the charges to my credit card are imported and he was asking me what various purchases were so he knew what category to put them in. The conversation went like this: Zoomdweebies? Tea. Butiki? Tea. Lupicia? Tea. The Pasta Shop? Tea. Really?! Yes, really they sell tea. Chantal Guillon? Tea. Veradant? Tea. Should I make a category for tea? NO, I have enough tea for a year, I’m not going to buy anymore!!!

And I’m really going to try not to for a good long while. I’m a little overwhelmed with all the tea I have to drink.

Nxtdoor said

I wish this had a “like” button, similar to facebook’s. although no conversation like that happened for me, yesterday my partner’s brother asked her (about me). How much tea has she had today?!? This is the first time we’ve spent a whole day together since i started drinking tea. It appears the addiction is obvious.

lol! I have a feeling that I’ll have a conversation like that one day.

Dustin said

The conversation was pretty amusing and a bit of an eyeopener. I’m lucky to have a spouse who is okay with my tea habits and likes tea himself!

That’s funny, Nxtdoor! Family starting to notice and raise an eyebrow! You should start drinking it out of a paper bag and see if he starts getting worried! ;)

Tealizzy said

LOL! I think I’m starting to have a tea-buying problem too, but I feel like I can justify it by the fact that my husband buys much more expensive things, and plus, I’m saving money from my previous Starbucks habit. Eventually, I would like to set a tea budget based on what I would be spending on Starbucks (or a little less) ;)

I’m doing good. I haven’t ordered/bought ANY tea (or tea related products) in two weeks. I’ve been drinking my samples and swaps. I’ve organized my tea stash, am more familiar with what I actually have (or don’t have as the case may be). I’m really lacking green teas but that’s ok, will wait until next month then pick some up.
I can do this. I can keep the ordering under control.

High five!

I want to place a Verdant Tea order, badly. I want more Yunnan White Jasmin T_T

Dexter said

I hear you. That’s not what I’m craving, but I understand wanting to replace a favorite. I have a sample of Yunnan White Jasmin, but I haven’t tried it yet.
I would really like some cheap Chinese green to make iced tea out of. Is it wrong to admit that I would like to walk into my local Chinese market and just buy a tin off the shelf (probably won’t even know/care what kind it is)? If I’m cold steeping with fruit tisane (to make fruit flavored green tea), do I need high quality tea?

There is no wrong and no shame here! xD I haven’t brewed my own tea blends, but I assume using decent quality tea for iced tea would be alright, since whatever amount of fruit may mask the base tea.

You can do it! Yuunan White Jasmine is my jam, you should try it when the moment is right. White Jasmine and I are deeply in love. Also, there’s nothing wrong with a cheap market tea, man. Man? Woman? Doesn’t matter. Keep on keepin’ on!

So I spent $40 at Verdant, $27 at Tealux, $20 at Davids and $25 at 52teas this month. And that was me trying to cut back!

No more orders this month. Everyone could offer free shipping to Canada and I’ll just go la la la can’t hear you…

Dexter said

But did you cut back? If you normally spend 300.00/month on tea then you did really well!!! Congrats!! On the other hand if that is pretty typical of a months spending, well, at least you were conscientiously aware of wanting to cut back and there is always next month.
There are a few companies that I would not be able to resist if they offered free shipping to Canada. Part of me thinks that I should just boycott any company that does not have reasonable shipping charges, on the other hand, if the opportunity arose….

TeaLady441 said

Thanks Dexter! I think I did better overall. Part of the reason I posted my spending here was so I would have it as a reference for June! (Bc I should be able to finish the month without adding more!)

“Part of me thinks that I should just boycott any company…” – ah, it’s too bad shipping is so insane with the recent price changes! I feel bad for the companies who want to sell to Canadians. They lose just as much as we do!

Dexter said

I really don’t mind paying shipping. I understand that the rates went up and they shouldn’t be loosing money because I want to shop there. What I do mind is unreasonably shipping charges. I’ve ordered from several companies in the States and had shipping at around 10.00. I’m OK with that. I’ve also put together orders at other sites and been quoted shipping in the 30.00 range. Why can some companies ship for 10 and others need to charge 3 times as much? UPS is another issues, don’t understand why I need to pay brokerage charges (but that’s another conversation). I think there are reasonably shipping options out there, companies just need to explore the options and find one that works for them and their customers. This is just my humble opinion.

Let the Great Tea Buying Binge begin!!
OK,…so it’s not June yet, LOL.
I placed at Adagio order today. We were out of some things, & it was time, & I actually have some money in the bank. I’ve been good for awhile, sort of…
Blame it on my son Leif, he egged me on!

So I never made it ‘official’, but I’ve been on a month-of-May hiatus too. Only my motivation wasn’t self-disciplin or peer support but, rather, lack of money. Let me just say that if money shows up early, so long hiatus! (and it looks hopeful that it might ;) )

Nxtdoor said

Yah. My DAVIDs TEA order is coming in tomorrow and I’m excited. Only I forgot to order “forever nuts”. Sigh. Happy drinking!

nxtdoor. so glad you posted – was trying to find a post i could respond to so that i could catch your attention…your user name behind nxt door has a period in it. That will prevent anyone from being able to follow you/PM you etc… you may want to change that!

My sis, MsWhatsit, initially had that problem because there was a period in her name after the first s.

Sil select said

Terri – did you get the tins? I don’t see them anymore :(

Nxtdoor said

Omg, Sil!! Thank you so much. For weeks I’ve been bashing my head on the wall trying to figure out why I can’t see my cupboard or add notes or do much of anything. I even emailed customer support to no avail. Was ready to delete the friggin thing… anyway, After reading your post I wondered if the tiny dot was the culprit for my woes. I removed it and sure enough, I can now participate! I’d thank you by sending you tea but since you have a way bigger collection I’ll just thank you profusely!

Sil select said

Not a problem at all, glad I could help and move you on your way to becoming more of an addict like the rest of us :) next time you should post :) sometimes the communicate has the answers and we love to help new folks get their feet under them. I’m just really glad you posted before you gave up!

Sil, you are super nice!

No, we didn’t get the tins, we just got more Tardis, Bilbo Brew, a tried a few other blends that looked interesting. They are still available though! Here’s the link:

https://www.adagio.com/signature_blend/fandom_sets.html?SID=09703d087254eb44d967d19215caca2d

TeaLady441 said

Woohoo = Tardis! :O
I better get your samples over to you…

Terri – You’re lucky to have grabbed the Bilbo Brew when you did. Hopefully unlikely, but it might be the last time you’re able to get it since Adagio pulled all of their Hobbit/Lotr blends from the site as of today. Apparently the company that made the hobbit/lotr cartoons from many many years ago sent them a letter asking them to pull the blends. Stupid nonsense if you ask me since the company isn’t afiliated with the actual Tolkien estate, so they have no right to ask such a thing. Hopefully it won’t last long and Adagio’ll put them back up. I had a handful that I was gonna order when June rolled around. /crosses fingers/
What other blends did you get?

Wow! Well then I’m double lucky because we really love the Hobbit blend. Leif talked me into getting the 6oz tin.
“That’s a lot of tea!” I said.
“Yeah, but we love it, we’ll drink it, & we get the TIN!” He reminds me of somebody….

We also got (not in tins)
Tardis (I should have got the damn tin for that one)
Eleven (for Drew)
Soldier? Or some other fandom blend Leif wanted…uh, Team something or other…
More Cowbell…lol…I saw the name, little Terri had to have it…a rooibos honey bush caramel & chocolate blend. It will probably suck…
Avada kedavra – very crazy fruity blend that I’ll probably hate (blackberry, raspberry patch, wild strawberry), I kind of went off the deep end with this one, but I had to have it. One of my favorite things about the Harry Potter series is that the ultimate death spell sounds so much like the most common & popular magic words, chanted by every budding magician, “abra cadabra”. Luckily mere muggles got the pronunciation wrong! :)

Well, at least you got the tin. But like I said, hopefully Adagio’ll put them back up soon.
If you like Tardis you could always get the tin the next time around. Lol. The others sound awesome, though I seem to think that about alot of fhe blends I find on there. Probly why my wishlist is so obnoxiously huge, I’ve got an infinity sign next to it rather than a number. Lol.
