Tea in the office

I have an electric kettle in my office, a box of filter bags, and a full drawer of different loose teas, I make a cup every chance I get and have one with me for every meeting as well. I also keep paper cups with lids in there in case I unexpectedly need to run out into the community.

This thread is making me jealous. I have undrinkable tap water, a water bottle cooler, and a dirty microwave. I boil water from the cooler in the gross microwave and use tea bags. When I wash my mug, I worry about the water I use. The whole food situation at my work is bleak.

I have a drawer which I keep a number of loose teas in, as well as a spoon and a box of drawstring filter pouches. I also have a small tea for one teapot (a gift) and my Perfect Tea Mug from Davids so I have options for brewing. I tend to use the Perfect Tea Mug as it is mess free, but I also use the paper sacs at my desk. I don’t let it take much time as I just get the hot water from the ktichen and brew at my desk so I am not ‘wasting’ 5 minutes waiting for the water to boil, steep, etc. I have an empty mug at my desk that I put any compostable things in and I dump that every day. I am too lazy to run to the kitchen every time I make tea or eat an apple. :)

Just make sure you don’t seem to be spending more time making tea than working and you should be fine! Maybe avoid a full-on gong fu session.. :)

I’d recommend starting a bit slower in the office, with tea bags or disposable tea filters. Or a simple infuser mug. Then when you’re there a little longer and get a better feel for the office, you can add some additional stuff to heat the water or greater variety.

I really like my Forlife tea-for-one set. It allows for infuser brewing without having to remove a drippy infuser from your mug when you are done. It also pours clean. No dribbles like some of the more ornamental tea for one sets.

Congratulations! Taking time out to make some tea can create a welcome break in a busy day.
I made a large mason jar filled with chai, using coconut milk instead of dairy milk, and found that the flavors stayed fresh over a couple of days. I made the chai myself on the stovetop rather than use a concentrate. Lots of recipes online! I love the flavors of cardamom and ginger. I drank it cold or heated it in the microwave. It helped save some time during a very busy week, but of course the ritual around brewing tea is very welcome, too. Again, congratulations and I hope you will be very happy at your new job!

I flout the rules of “no coffee makers or microwaves” by having an electric kettle hidden under my desk. Hey, the official memo didn’t mention those! I’m not about to ask for permission and have my precious tea kit banished. I’m lucky enough to have my own space, so by my desk window I set up a tea corner with a water filter, tin of teas, and various mugs in case a co-worker ever takes me up on a cuppa. I’m thinking about starting a lunchtime ‘tea party’ once a week to share my overly-ample stash of tea and introduce others to the wonders of leaves in hot water.

We have an electric kettle in the “kitchen” where everyone gathers to eat/drink and I usually keep 2-3 types of tea stored in a cabinet there. I brew it in a cup with a ceramic basket .

We have an electric kettle ( and a keurig for the coffee drinkers), for about 10 of us to use. Also a very very small fridge for milk. We have filtered water in the staff kitchen. I keep a small teapot, a davids steeper, the perfect mug and disposable tea bags in my little office. I keep a couple of types of tea at work and bring other types of “tea for the day” each morning, depending on what I feel like. On days that arent too busy, I usually ask if any of the tea drinkers want to have an afternoon tea …. 2 or 3 will usually join in and we chat about whatever tea we are drinking, while we work….finding and sipping tea has made the work day more pleasant, that is for sure……

I keep small amounts of tea at work and cycle in new ones when I get bored. I also keep raw sugar, a brew basket and an electric kettle. I used to bring a travel mug to work, but I found that have way through I wanted something else.
