Vanilla chai recommendations
Looking for a good vanilla chai. I received some unlabeled stuff in a swap that was awesome so I’d love recommendations.
Tiger chai from Kally Tea is pretty good.
We have several chais with vanilla:
Wedding Chai http://www.mahamosa.com/teabar/en/wedding-chai.html
Bengal Chai http://www.mahamosa.com/teabar/en/bengal-chai.html
Tulsi Chai http://www.mahamosa.com/teabar/en/tulsi-chai.html
We also have a variety of decaf black chais and rooibos chais, if you’re looking for caffeine-free chai.
Darjeeling Song from the sTEApe Shoppe. A bit expensive but is an awesome mild chai with vanilla, cardamom and fenugreek. Very smooth for a darjeeling.
You know, it’s very worthwhile to try making your own chai in a saucepan.
After all, you probably have all the spices in your cupboard already , and it’s so easy to make if you have a nice black tea to mix it with :)
I DIY it. I have a chai mix with the ‘usual stuff’, you could customize it exactly as you like. Then I steep that with some Vanilla Comoro (decaf vanilla black from Harney and Sons). Actually, I sent the rest of the chai to a friend who moved to Korea and missed my “decaf Thai chi” (Chai tea). Good stuff though.
I enjoy it BUT I find it can go bitter pretty easily which means that long steeps are out. I increase the chai to tea ratio to help build up the spice presence, as I can only stand vanilla comoro steeped for about three minutes. It is a nice vanilla but not a POW. More a subtle addition to the chai.
I was going to say DIY, because chai is very easy and rewarding to do, but I would say maybe go an extra step, and pick a vanilla flavoured tea (infusing with vanilla pods might also work)and then add spices. I have been playing at making chai and since I know what spices I like, it works much better for me than 90% of random chai mixes. Just a tip – the chai needs some time to “mature”, mix the tea and spices, put it on a jar or tin and wait at least a couple weeks before having it.
If you like mint, the Mint Chilla Chai Nilla from The Tea and Spice Exchange is pretty good. If you like rooibos, Coco Chai Rooibos is pretty good, while I don’t know if it actually has vanilla in it, it has a pretty smooth taste that reminds me of vanilla. The Maharaja Chai Oolong/Tulsi Dosha Chai rooibos blend has Madagascar Vanilla in it……Mmmmm!
Bigelow’s Vanilla Chai isn’t bad, if you don’t mind bagged tea. Good Earth also has it, I like it well enough.
I am not a huge chai fan but the ones above are the ones that so far I like quite a bit.
hi, the vanilla chai for Rosie Lea Tea in Broadstairs is well worth a shot. I tried it recently and it was great and ok price wise. i also “iced” it and tastes just as good. I though chai was a bit of a fad, but not so sure now, definitely a favourite.
