Iced Tea

Warm weather is coming!! What are your favourite teas to ice (so I can “borrow” your idea ;) ) My favourite is blueberry.

oooo, I’m looking forward to this and it’s tempting me now to do some experimenting!

I like using light bodied black teas with rose pedals and/or jasmine. Tea merchant’s french vanilla earl grey is REALLY good iced. I got some of their lychee tea to try, and suspect that’ll be good as well. For straight tea with nothing else I tend to like using upton Yunnan black snail.

Della Terra’s Mellow Mango Peach is really good if you like fruit teas. It gets even better slightly sweetened. I’ve been drinking this iced the last few days and have already managed to run out.

Rishi’s China Breakfast makes a good strong black iced tea. This will be my go-to once summer hits. I tend to make this hot following the directions then mix my first and second steeps together when anyone other than me is going to drink it. Some people in my household tend to think this is overly strong for iced tea, hence the mix. With my ice tea pitcher the ice is in a tube in the center to cool everything down rather than water the tea down so it still manages to stay pretty strong.

I ice fruity tisanes. I’ll probably ice my way through my ancient box of Tetley as well though, just to get rid of it since I’m unwilling to drink it otherwise. But “it’s such a waste to throw out” so it just sits on the shelf… So time to toss it into a pitcher and refrigerate it, heh.

I tend to like blueberry for iced as well. So refreshing! :)

I’ve been trying out a bunch of non-caffeine stuff in an attempt to find some go-to after-dinner treat teas, and in the process I stumbled on a few I think will probably be wonderful iced but can’t say for sure yet (waiting on my iced tea pitcher from Amazon!). They include…

New Mexico Tea Company’s Provence Rooibos
52teas’ Cucumber Kiwi Honeybush
American Tea Room’s Lemoncello
Culinary Teas’ Melon (they actually recommend it for icing on their site) (has caffeine though; this was before I started the “after 5pm” quest)
Culinary Teas’ Canadian Ice Wine (has caffeine, ditto)

I’ll ice pretty much anything. Doesn’t matter what it is.

My fav is Raspberry Mint Mojito from Teaopia (which you can no longer buy).

Tonight I’m icing a pitcher of DAVIDsTEA Strawberry Rhubarb Parfait. first timer on that one.

I LOVE Lime Gelato (also from DAVIDs) iced.

One cheap option if you’re making pitchers regularly is using Celestial Seasonings fruity tisanes. No artificial flavoring, they taste reasonably good, and work quite well iced whether you do sweetening or not. They’re usually what I use for iced teas, though now and then I’ll open the wallet a little further and use a loose leaf for iced teas.

Try icing or cold brewing your favorite tea. Often if you like it hot, you will like it cold. My favorite are earl grey teas.
