I’m so excited to get the recipes from this: http://instagram.com/p/ZEostoIfco/

OH god yes! I drooled over this pic

Me too! I wanted to go to Violet Hour so bad when I was in Chicago, they look like they always have a tea cocktail on the menu so these are going to be FAB.

WTF, why is their coconut in the Mint Julep. WHY?? Or lemon, or pineapple, or rooibos for that matter. There is nothing about that tea that is like a julep except for the mint.

Uniquity said

What??? That is the worst news I have heard all week. At least about tea.

Dinosara said

I thought of you immediately when I saw that. What a let-down!

I’m mentally writing a letter to them telling them that if they don’t back off the coconut they will lose a lot of customers – but I don’t think it’s true. I think a lot of people (including myself) like Davids at first and wean off them as we learn more about real tea. There is always a supply of new customers so we don’t seem to matter. Yuck.

I can see rooibos for trying to imitate bourbon, that’s about it.

@Uniquity

That’s exactly true. Davids was where I started with loose leaf so I wanted to try out tons of their stuff, but I pretty much don’t drink their tea at all anymore. They’re mainly a teaware shop for me, but I do keep an eye on their new teas for iced tea candidates (provided they don’t contain artificial ingredients)

Though that said, even if that weren’t all true, I am a bit of a coconut fiend so I don’t mind lots of coconut … But ‘that said’ again, the biggest complaint I see about Davids is their fixation on coconut.

I tried mint julep today, delicious!

Uniquity said

As a rule I don’t try any of the blends with coconut as I loathe the stuff. I might try this one anyway though.

It’s not coconutty really, its more a mint black with sweet notes? I loved it.

I couldn’t taste the coconut!

I was in DavidsTea yesterday, and the lady told me they are trying to get the Summer teas/teaware out immediately because a) Mother’s Day is their 2nd busiest day, and b) we’ve had such great weather lately. They had the stock in their backroom (just came in) and the plan was to get it out in store today. It might be the same with the other stores!

I see that the teas are available online (as was discussed earlier) but for those of us waiting to smell them, they might already be there.

yeah, the Halifax (spring garden) store had everything out and set up yesterday!

Oh! I’ll have to keep an eye out to see if they have new Perfect Mugs! I didn’t see any of those online yet…

I didn’t see any new mugs (just the iced tea mugs .. they had two new ones) and they had some realllly pretty colourful tumblers!.. but they are just regular cups.. soo I can’t really justify them lol.

Uniquity said

Sweet. The Spring Garden one is close for me. I will go by next week.

I was told they aren’t having any new perfect mugs. The purple/gold elephant was supposed to be for summer, but the spring ones sold so well that they had to release it early.

So far I’ve tried Tropicalia, Coconut Grove, and Mint Julep. Coconut grove is DELICIOUS iced, creamier and sharper than the Coconut Oolong. Really refreshing. Mint Julep is eh – I wish I hadn’t bought 50g (more on that in a sec). You really don’t taste the coconut, but you really don’t taste much of anything. I haven’t tried the other two yet – will update soon.

In my store, there was a 5 for $15 sale for the iced tea packs, which include all of the summer collection + 3 existing (Goji Pop, Main Squeeze, and Green and Fruity) in various amounts ranging from like 16g – 30g. For every tea EXCEPT Mint Julep, this is a better price per gram, so I got a good selection :) They also have a spend $50, get 50g of Mamma Mia promotion on, so it sort of fuelled my summer tea spending. Gonna have to put my wishlist on hold for a while!

Does anyone know anything about/have heard of Davids Tea tea pop? I was in my local Davids today and there was a sign advertising tea pop by the station where they make the drinks in store. I was on an “in and out” mission so I didn’t stop to look at the sign. Just wondering what it was…

Lala said

OK, so I answered my own question, found the recipe on the Davids facebook. It is essentially iced tea mixed with sparkling water.

bookshark said

I got an email about that, and it looks like a teapop is a soda/tea combo. The email came with a link to other sorts of mixed tea drink recipes as well. http://www.davidstea.com/recipes

I’ve had it twice, both times with Berry Good and a bit of sweetener. To me, it is like italian soda. I really enjoyed them, but $4 a drink is a bit much for me. It did remind me I need to stock up on Berry Good though!

EDIT to add: it is pretty much strong tea, ice and carbonated water.

Lala said

Thanks bookshark and Uniquity. I love italian soda type drinks but sounds like something to experiment with at home!

lol they are four dollars? …. definitely a try at home kind of drink.. i was doing the soda water with goji pop last summer.. except i cold steeped my goji pop into it… rather than brewed it first and mixed it…i’ll try this when it warms up and see!

Lala said

Aimee, how did the goji pop steeped in soda water turn out?

Kiaharii said

Guess I need to get some sparkling water at the store!
