Still sipping on this Keemun tea. I’m near the end of it, but I think I might just toss it. I’m literally just suffering through it. The past several days I’ve only had one cup of tea because I’m putting so much pressure on myself that I can’t have anything else until I finish it. The more I drink it, the more I’ve come to hate it. I tried to improve it by eating it with a biscotti, but all that accomplished was ruining the taste of the biscotti.

So yeah, lesson learned. I like it in a certain blend, but I don’t like it plain. At all.

Edit: There, I did it. I tossed the rest of the cup, and the remaining leaves. I’ve promised myself that from now on when there’s a tea like that I just can’t stand drinking, and I don’t have anyone to give it to, I’ll just throw it out. If I hate it that much, the money’s already been wasted anyway, so no point in wasting time suffering through it on top of that.
Now sipping a cup of Organic Guranse from Butiki. I’ve always really enjoyed it, but it’s never tasted so good to me right now. xD

Chiz – or, instead of throwing it away, put it up for a swap :) Someone else might really enjoy it and you might get to try some new teas out there

Laoshan Black Chocolate Genmaicha~

How is that? And I thought genmaicha was green?

I like it. It’s comforting to drink because of the combo of the toasted rice, cocoa, and malty quality (makes rainy days nicer). It says on Verdant’s website that they experimented with the idea of genmaicha and decided to use black tea instead of green.

This sounds heavenly! Gotta love new twists on traditional teas.

Like chocolate rice crispies?

More or less, Lariel.

The Snooty Tea Person, yeah, it’s definitely something different. One of those you just gotta try :D

Jumping in on your conversation… Lariel and Snooty Tea Person you should absolutely order a sample of Verdant’s Genmaicha. While you’re at it, check out their Bergamot Rose and Earl of Anxi too. So good, so worth the shipping. I promise I don’t work for them, I just give them all my money!

The genmaicha’s going on my wishlist (right under Kusmi’s 6 Spice Chai—they don’t say what’s in it, but there’s a savory basil note that’s calling my name) but I’ll pass on the Bergamot Rose and Earl of Anxi. Florals are a hard sell for me, personal taste.

Fair enough! I’ve got to say, though, I did not get floral from Earl of Anxi… there’s too much else going on. It kind of blends into its own brand-new super-flavor. Kusmi’s 6 Spice Chai sounds lovely! Happy tea times.

What is Anxi, and how do I become Earl of it?

I’ve never had genmaicha, but have always wanted to try someday.

Anxi is a county (and in Fujian, and its mountain peaks are where Tieguanyin Oolong comes from. As for becoming the Earl of Anxi? ;) That was more of a play on the classic name of “Earl Grey,” which was an inspiration for the blend.. we wanted to try scenting an oolong with bergamot, and the rest of the blend grew from there!

Hope you get to try a genmaicha someday! It was one of the first teas I really enjoyed way back when I thought tea was just something bitter I had to cover up with milk. I still marvel at how far I’ve come from there, especially now that we make our own version of Genmaicha.. it uses the He Family’s Laoshan Green instead of a steamed Japanese green, and we mix it with toasted jasmine rice and Minnesota Wild Rice. One day, we accidentally used Laoshan Black in our Laoshan Genmaicha instead of the Laoshan Green tea, but it turned out to be a very happy accident! David adjusted the overall balance of the overall blend (adding cacao nibs and a bit of Wuyi Oolong), and now we have Laoshan Black Chocolate Genmaicha!

Lost count of the infusions by now, but Tealet’s Black Pearl is doing me some good right now.
