Attn: Teavana Recalls Glass Tumblers and Some Glasses

Hey guys, I didn’t see this posted anywhere but as of today there’s a notice up on the Consumer Product Safety Commission’s site about a recall of all the glass tumblers Teavana carries. They’re recalled due to lacerations and burn hazards due to them breaking – 302 were reported broken, with 6 injuries reported. This affects both the US and Canada.

The products recalled are listed here: http://www.cpsc.gov/en/Recalls/2013/Teavana-Recalls-Glass-Tea-Tumblers/

Instructions on what to do are there too. They’ll replace it with a metal tumbler (http://www.teavana.com/tea-products/tea-cups-mugs/travel-tea-cups/p/teavana-stainless-steel-insulated-tumbler) and are also giving you 2 oz of Opus Rouge.

Wow, that’s a huge recall. I thought about getting a few of these tumblers because they were on sale a while ago. Glad I didn’t.

That’s it. That decides it. I’m not getting any glass mugs, or teacups or what have you. I’ve heard too many things like this. They look beautiful, but it’s just not worth the risk of swallowing glass or whatever.

I got some double walled glasses (not part of this thankfully) from Teavana that have been great with hot tea, but they’ve become my #1 iced tea glasses now.

Chizakura said

Exactly. If I get any glass teaware, it’ll be for cold only too. Too many horror stories D:

I have one of DAVIDs glass mugs & one from my local tea house. I use them all the time, daily actually & no problems.

Oh I know it’s not actually extremely common, and plenty of people have used glass without incident, but I’m paranoid, so I’ll stick with my ceramic, haha. xD

Or in my case you have three other experiences of breaking glass lol. If I knew who made the Teavana glasses I’d be less worried, but I have broken four wine glasses, one of my usual water glasses, and a French press all while washing them and only two of those incidents involved a dishwasher. The last thing I need is glass breaking while I’m steeping tea now, though I assume that’s just going to be the next step in my process.

I’ve had mine for a few years (it was a gift) and have had no problems… I dunno if it’s glass and you drop it’s going to break. Nature of the material.

The issue wasn’t dropping though. It would just suddenly shatter while people were holding it.

I have a coffee mug from Caribou coffee, that I use for my tea. Or I use a good microwavable mug. I don’t really like Teavana too much.

Neither do I. I technically haven’t been to one, but I’ve heard plenty of stories of how unscrupulous their business practices are. Not to mention 99% of their teas is choking with artificial flavors and whatnot. (Browsed their online shop)

My mom got me a tea pot from Teavana, bad deal, it doesn’t look right anymore. I bought a Hello Kitty hot water kettle, much better deal. :)

Hmm. I have on of these, but I’ve never had any problems with it. Not sure if I want to replace it with a metal one – at least, not before seeing the one I’d be getting!

I was given one as a gift and I like it. If I don’t return it, I’ll use it to cold infuse tea where there wouldn’t be any danger.

My husband have one each and we have no problems. Also it is stupid that they recalled this. Only an idiot would put hot tea in this type of cup just looking at it you can tell it isn’t designed for hot tea. Use your brains people!!!
