Mang Zhi Autumn 2011
Thanks to Stephanie for a sample!
I spent the afternoon with this one, and although it’s not particularly complex, it seems to resteep forever, with a tangy & satisfying olive leaf kind of taste, and a shiny clean kind of feeling.

Today I brought a sample of 2010 Yunnan Sourcing Man Zhuan" Autumn Harvest Yi Wu. I’ve been extremely busy lately and this is me padding myself on the back LOL. I’m still on my first cup, but the the subtle sweet, bittersweet vegetal notes and thickness are noticeable. I always get a ‘olive oil’ hint out of this one, It is in the thickness combined with the bittersweet to sweet greener notes. I find it calming and rewarding right now.

If it takes more time for you to read this topic from the start than you have spent on drinking tea so far, let me know, so that I do not attempt the feat myself :-)

Roughage said

The secret is to drink tea while reading. That keeps things in balance. ;-)

Don’t be surprised when this topic lights up and there are no recent posts – that would be me replying to old old posts! lol

I just got my order from w2t with a number of samples. I’m feeling the pressure… There are precious few days to taste them all to get an order in before the sale ends!! Anyone else feeling the pressure? Can we try to convince TwoDog for an extension??.

boychik said

I would need more time since i didnt get my samples yet. Even if i get them tomorrow i dont want to sample more than one sheng a day. I know some people can do that, but i need to taste and think.

Cwyn said

jschergen offered me a comforting thought the other day: many people will spend themselves out at the sale, so we might have more time to raise the cash for what remains.

Otherwise, yeah, I’m not feeling the pressure due to the sale, but stuff selling out is more a worry for me.

boychik said

I’m expecting sample of Bosch and Tuhao. Not the ones I want to be sampling at once. Sigh.

Cwyn said

Probably should have got a sample, but then a cake is a sample, right?? :D

Roughage said

A cake is a sample and a tong is a small purchase. Absolutely right, Cwyn. :D

boychik said

@Cwyn Which tea are you talking abt? Bosch?

Cwyn said

Tuhao. Doesn’t matter, any of them!

Rich select said

Tried Colbert today… It was good but not great. Tomorrow it will be the 1990s HK, Saturday Tuhao, Sunday 72 hrs. I won’t get to the 2015 Last Thoughts, but that is probably for the better since it is over $400.

Today I drank an excellent but smoky sheng the 2006 Yunnan Xiaguan FT 8653 Iron Cake Raw Pu’er Tea by Berylleb King Tea. There was a smoky flavor to this tea and that was the prominent note. It was however not too strong. This dissipated somewhat over eight steeps but never completely went away. There was some bitterness in the early steeps but this didn’t last. There was something of a sweet flavor in later steeps but this was subdued. Overall this was an excellent tea. The color of the tea soup was the orange color of a semi aged tea so I am not in doubt about its age.

Cwyn said

The FTs tend to be a bit on the more drinkable side, any Xiaguan at 10 years can be drinkable if it is not bone dry.

Having a 2015 Menghsong old tree from Chawang shop.
Got this one out for brewing tonight. I picked 9 grams off for the gaiwan. I gave a quick rinse and then 3 quick steeps as fast as I could pour.
The liquid is a very light yellow color. It has an almost tropical aroma as some one mentioned. Vaguely like an aroma of pineapple.
The tea is mineral and vegetal in the first cup. There is some light citrus and it has a medium body mouth feel to it.
Second steep(s), The tea opens up a bit more. It has a bitter punch that goes sweet and back to a faint bitterness. It starts to give a little tongue buzz on the tip and sides. Just a wisp of smokiness in there as well. Very nice leaf opening up in the gawain.

Flavors: Bitter, Mineral, Pineapple, Smoke, Sweet, Vegetal

This was very bitter for me. Of all the cakes I got from their spring collection, this one is an age-r.

I had it in the pumi for ove 30 days. That may have rounded it a bit. I was better than the 2012 Bulang I had before it. I do like punchy tea though.

I didn’t see this tea on their website, are they out of stock or did I just miss it?

Cwyn said

It is still in stock. Click on Puerh Tea—>Puerh Tea Factories—>Cha Wang Exclusives.

Their teapots are inexpensive. Are they good quality?

Haven’t experienced the teapots but most of the tea is pretty good.

Today I drank a tea purchased from King Tea on Aliexpress. I have done my best to transliterate an extremely long name, the 2006 ChangTai BanNa HengFengYuan ZhenPin 400g Organic Puer Ripe Tea. This tea is amongst the first teas I have tried from Changtai Tea Group and was quite good. There was a fair amount of fermentation flavor left despite this being from 2006 although it had partially cleared. It was sweet and thick from the beginning with little bitterness. I normally use filtered water in my tea but for this one I tried spring water. I didn’t notice a big difference but there may have been a little. I normally use a zero water filter which does a very good job. Overall this was a good tea, just as good as most of the ripe teas I have had from Menghai Tea Factory at least. The price on this tea was fairly good at around $46 or so. I don’t really know just how expensive Changtai Tea gets so I really guess I don’t know if I got a good deal or not but I liked the tea.

Changtai can get pretty pricy.

Trying to get my sampling of white2tea teas in today since the sale ends tomorrow. Today I am trying both the 72 Hours and the Tuhao as F@. Egads, trying to squeeze these two monster teas into one afternoon is a bit much. The 72 Hours is thick yet kind of soft, quite strong, and brews a dark yellow orange. I only got through 5 steeps or so. Excellent leaf and a strong but stable qi. Kind of mellow, the strong but silent type if you get my drift.

The Tuhao is hearty and starts to yield some good bitterness after a few steeps. Kind of citrusy. Very strong qi, kind of knocks you for a loop. Again, I only got through 5 steeps or so. A guy can only take so much qi!

All in all, these two teas seem to be represented as the top of the 2015 lineup for White2tea (excepting the Last Thoughts). They are surely excellent quality teas. It’s just the price that is going to keep me from purchasing either one. At $180 and $140 for a 200g cake, respectively, these are pricey. They would have to be over the top good for me to buy one, and I just can’t justify it. It’s no knock to the tea, these are good!

Revisiting Crimson Lotus’ 2014 Bulang Shan “Tribute Tea” sheng. When I first drank this months ago I thought it was terribly bitter. Now I taste the sweetness deep in the hay bale of smoky peppers. Yummy sweet dry mouth. I’ve been on this bastard diet (500 calories a day, don’t ask) and for once the constant bloody hunger is gone because I have a bellyful of this tea and at the present moment I am A.O.K.

Yang-chu said

Sounds nice. Smoky peppers, interesting.

I have this but haven’t tried it yet. It is super compressed. Trying to open it up in storage so I don’t wound myself break off some pieces.
