Esteemed Steepster Pu-Heads, do you have any opinions on the puer available from Camellia Sinensis in Montreal?

I have looked on their site but I haven’t tried any of them as of yet.

I have tried a few. I think they are overpriced for what they are.

Drinking my homemade chocolate puerh. Took 8.5gm cheap chinatown probably fake or at least no vintage CNNP cake and added 1.5gm inexpensive chocolate nibs from my local specialty shop and voila! A delicious and affordable brew. I am usually a purist but I was curious since commercial tea companies like Numi sell chocolate puerh, figured I could come up with my own at a fraction of the price. Also a good way to use up the cheap (but decent tasting) shu.

Great idea! I made a chocolate mint puerh this Christmas with cacao nibs and mint leaf :)

Today I tried the Golden Needle Ripe Pu-erh Tea of Yong De from the ys tea club.

It had fermentation flavour present, although not unpleasant. it was quite smooth and not at all strong like the loose shou that I drank yesterday. Also had a nice cha-qi. It didnt blow my socks off, but I think I liked it for that. I will do a proper review when ive drank more of it.

2015 Huang Shan Shu Gushu. The wet leaves are thick and healthy looking. The soup has a pleasant ku wei and mouthfeel. Very thick in the mouth and has a nice cha qi.

Lol, I knew I recognised the name, Ive had it. I liked it iirc

The one I have is from EoT. I am planning an order from YS which will include their version :). I haven’t tried their yancha either… a friend of mine is into yancha and he seems to drink his stuff almost exclusively.

Anyone try anything new they were impressed with from YS?

Today I drank another tea from Liquid Proust’s 2016 Sheng Olympics. I drank the Verdant Tea 2015 Sheng from 1000 year old trees. While I don’t believe this to be genuine, it was however good. It was somewhat bitter but quite smooth. There was a certain sweetness to this tea but not as apricoty as the 1800 year old tree. As this was good enough to stand on it’s own I wonder why they lied about the age of the trees?

Got my White2Tea order today, more than 10 kraft bags of 25g samples. A lot of them have that plastic/glue type of smell to them on the outside of the bags, and most of them have the same smell even when I open them up and take a whiff of the tea. So much so that I can’t even smell certain bags leaf beyond that scent. They are foil-lined kraft bags, so I am hoping that what I’m smelling is just the outside bag and that the inside has not been contaminated with that awful scent. Has anyone else ordered samples from W2T that can comment on their experience?

Open them up and let them breathe a week or so. It will improve your experience. And , may I ask which ones did you get? Some of the older stuff does have some humidity and storage aroma to them.

What you smell is bubble wrap not actual sample bags. They don’t smell of anything. (I’ve ordered many samples from w2t and every month I get my club package)

Having the 2015 Hai Lang Hao ‘You Le Old Arbor’ sheng.
Getting this one out from the 2016 Sheng Olympics Package.
I opened this up and weighed 7 grams out from it. Saving the other half for a later session. Kudos to LP on breaking this one. Much better than I do it.
The dry leaf doesn’t seem to punch you with much aroma. Maybe a little Summer hay or something. I got the Gaiwan out and gave a quick rinse. That seemed to bring the notes out. It has the young sheng notes we all know. Warm wet hay vegetal with some hints of floral to it.
I did 3 quick steeps in a big mug as it is still hard to move with the leg. The color was a light yellow. Not much of the green edge that some have.
The sips on the tongue give hints of citrus and pine and the back edge has some sweetness. This one hits the tip and middle of the tongue and seems a touch thin but seems to thicken up in the mouth. The brew is very clear and has a clean finish. It loses a bit of the thickness as the cup cools a bit. This one does leave you tasting it for a while and the Hui Gan is present a bit even in this young tea.
I think this is in line with the other HLH products. Most that I have had have been processed and stored well and this in no exception.

Flavors: Citrus, Floral, Hay, Pine, Sweet, Vegetal

Yesterday and today I have been drinking the 2007 Xiaguan FT4 grandpa style in my yixing flask due to lack of tea-making facilities in my new place of work. It’s strong, smoky, peaty and with a hefty kick. It’s like the Laphraoig of teas. Definitely one for the whisky drinkers.

2005 Bo Wen “Yue Chen Yue Xiang” of Menghai is todays, and is quite sweet compared to others I have recently been drinking.

I am enjoying it – I dont drink coffee and shou is slowly but surely becoming my coffee substitute. There is no iffy notes here, dry stored & nice. Notes of coffee, sweetness, chocolate. Its got a nice body.

I’d be interested to know others thoughts on this one, I think its quite good.

’04 Old Youle Ripe Brick to start off today…

We are having unseasonably warm weather as I sit here in shorts and the ice/snow is finally melting. Anyway, I still felt like something warming, so the Old Youle brick came out. I love the full and lasting mouth feel of this tea. Initial steeps are richly sweet and leathery, with a good amount of earth. No astringency or off flavors, even when distractions had me brewing the 3rd steep too long. This tea is smooth.
