Dayi 8582 2010, JKteashop.

Already got some tang going, possibility of terrible review on the horizon as it basically makes me thing of varnished wooden fruit.

2003 Feng Qing Jia Ji Er Deng
Heck, I could kick myself for not having bought more of this nectar when it was still available. Oh well …

mrmopar said

It is still out there. Just have to know where to look.

?! said

Thanks for the helpful reply.
There may be some left out there but I don’t know of any European vendor who still has it in stock and I’m through with being harassed by some custom folks if I order tea from somewhere else.

mrmopar said

I agree customs can be painful for you guys. Tis a shame they have to limit people this way. Have you thought about having a friend from another country mail it to you as a gift? Let them purchase and the mail it your way.

?! said

Luckily I’m just on an extended stayover here. Back home it’s not much of an issue; customs there are already pretty busy with some other stuff.

2009 Menghai Banglong, JK Tea shop. Trying out some classic & cheap sheng, I prefer this one to the 8582, by a long shot.

Has some sweetness to balance the bitter, nice neon lively glows on my tongue. I likened it to my mensong cake from bana, lo & behold banglong is in mengsong.

Nice to see terroir training working :)

2009 Yiwu from White2Tea today. I drank this one quite a bit when it came in W2T’s club, and while I liked it, there was still a bit of uncomfortable stomach feels. As a result, when I picked up a cake, I added some extra humidity in hopes of turning this one from ‘close to ready’ to a truly ready daily drinker. I succeeded, as it went down easy today in spite of my excessive leafing, but at the cost that the flavor got twerked a bit, and not really in a good way. I’ll be curious to try this over the coming months and see how the flavor develops. I’ve had other teas that I’ve humidified turn back towards their original character over time, but I’m not sure this tea will be as resilient.

‘07 SGTM’s Year of the Pig is sudsy elixir with medicinal notes. I was looking to break out the Rooster, but the Pig was easier to access. It possesses a vibe quite similar to XG’s Nan Zhao 400g cake, gentle cantaloupe after notes, slightly numbing on the tongue and lips, brothy. Seems very lightly astringent.

2007 Dayi Adorned in Red Shou today.

So much better than the ‘sheng’ version, and even gives the Golden Needle White Lotus (2007) a run for it’s money. I pushed this pretty hard, but I still got plenty of steeps, with some surprisingly legit qi. Really clean, decent cooling, pitch black. Just writing this after the fact makes me wish I had some more to drink beside me.

Starting off the day with Canton Tea Co.’s house sheng, a 2012 pressing of Autumn Yi Wu material, mainly because I think it goes better with boiled eggs!

?! said

Lol. I bought some of those Canton mini cakes a while ago, but give them some more time in storage. The Autumn bulang is my favorite of the bunch.

The 2012 De Hong Ye Sheng is the other one I bought – not too bad at all. I did buy them for drinking now, but since I enjoyed them so much I’ve since thought about getting some more in for the long haul…

I might just have to have a look at the Bulang. Thanks for the tip…

?! said

Just in case … they’re currently selling their Canton raw selection trio (including the De Hong Ye Sheng and the Autumn Bulang) and their 2012 Xiaguan T8653 iron cakes at 50% off.
For 11.53€ (+ shipping) the Xiaguan is a steal, at least over here. I’ve just ordered some more :)

Kitan said

I’m surprised there’s any of that T8653 still left at that price. I’m tempted to get one, but probably wouldn’t be able to resist chipping away at it…

They used to have a very reasonably priced Xiaguan 7663 ripe but seem to have run out.

?! said

I’m somewhat surprised as well. (If in doubt just chip away :) )
I’ve bought ten cakes over the last couple weeks and like them quite a bit as they are, even though they’ll be much, much better with an extra decade under their wrappers.

Kitan said

I think I’m probably going to have to strike while the iron (**badoom-tish!) is still hot and get one in. Given the stuff I’ve already got heading my way it just might be the straw the breaks the camel’s back in terms of storage space… :)

Sounds familiar. Can’t wait to move my humble stash 4000km south to my new home (and to answer lots of silly questions from you-know-who).

I’ve never heard of Canton. Are they a good company?

?! said

Good company? No idea. They make money with tea and I happen to like some of their stuff, but ordered more sheng pu than anything else from them – see above.

?! said

Sorry, I haven’t tried that one since I’m not much of a shu drinker but I generally trust the folks at Canton. If in doubt just drop them a line.

Canton tea. Ordered January 18th. Delivered USA today. Quick shipping for sure and the sale is still on.

Weasser said

Oh great mrmopar. I’m trying to be good and avoid buying more tea, and you tell me that. Time to check the company out :D

Babble said

Now I’m intrigued by this Canton company too. They have a sale on some yixing too. Seems like a pretty good price. Can I trust it?

mrmopar said

This is my first order with them. Roughage on here talked about them with good remarks to me a while back. Hopefully they are as good as the hype.
Not sure on the yixing as I know it can vary a lot and I probably couldn’t distinguish the real from the fake on those.

Babble said

What did you end up ordering? They have quite a selection!

mrmopar said

I got the sheng collection and an extra Bulang and their raw cake. Still unable to get into the box. Hidden away for now…
Good news is I am working with Teamania for some samples from their line.

Kitan said

I gave in to temptation, as I knew I surely would.

Just ordered the raw collection, the T8653 cake, and a mini beeng of their house ripe for good measure… :)

?! said

I just took delivery of another parcel from Canton, I’m slowly running out of space here.

Kitan said

Ditto the space issue.

When they finally crack the hyperspace thing, I reckon long before they start sending spaceships through it, someone will have figured out how to park their tea & teaware collection in it…!

I have been out. 4 pumidors has lately been 3 too many.

1990 CNNP Special grade Guangxi LiuBao from chawangshop

A bit dust-forward but hidden in there is a very old tasting heicha, very shou-like. Perhaps not as rich as I would like but its got nice thought-inducing oldness :)

2005 Wild Tree “Ye Sheng Cha” Raw Pu-erh tea brick of Dehong from Yunnan Sourcing US.

This one is great. I bought a sample a couple weeks ago, and tried it today, and wasted no time in buying two 250g bricks. Only 17 samples and 23 bricks left. I wasnt going to miss out on getting more.
