So happy to get your order, my dear! I’ll have it bagged up and ready to ship your way on Monday!! And I am following you – now!!! Thanks a ton for passing the sale info along. It really helps! Jamie and I hemmed and hawed about doing a sale this huge. But… In the end, we decided to take the hit and make

It’s a mighty sale. Mighty. Besides you know as soon as people who haven’t ever had any of your tea taste it, they will be hooked.

2008 Menghai Qizibing Pu-erh Tea Cake by PuerhShop.com

A nice everyday shu. It has a deep flavor and is tasty. It is a bit rough, though, with noticeable astringency and not so easy on the stomach. It is lacking in smoothness. But is pretty good nonetheless. Worth trying if you are a shu lover since it is fairly cheap and pretty good quality, and to top it off, supposedly organic!

2009 American Hao 0901 ‘7542’ Pu-erh Tea Cake by PuerhShop.com
Rounding out my tour of puerhshop teas this weekend, I tried this 7542 clone tea. The cake looks beautiful. Smells smoky. The tea is quite strong, I had to trim my usual over stuffing of the gaiwan. The first infusion was smoky like a lapsang souchong. But it was fun to taste! It took several infusions just to tame the smoke. Later infusions were also smoky, but much less so. Kind of a fun tea to try, the leaves were good and held up for at least 10 solid infusions. I don’t know if it is really like a 7542, certainly not in terms of smoke.

Is that Da-yi’s 7542?

It’s not a dayi cake, but someone else’s using the 7542 ‘recipe’. Here is a link:

Black Tea Puerh Pie from EnjoyingTea. Bought this for my son for his graduation along with an artisan Jian Shui pot. He likes strong tea. I didn’t choose this particular cake, the one I actually ordered was out of stock and they substituted this one, at almost twice the cost than what I was charged for my first choice. My son said “brew it strong!” so okayyy…whoof…chipped off lots of leaf, two rinses. Wow, talk about qi up the back and neck, and heat, our faces were red after two cups. Tasted like a shou, looked like a shou in the cup but the dark cake tasted like black tea on the finish, a bit of dryness on the throat afterward but not in the mouth. The mint ice cream we had an hour later was a welcome follow up!

2002 Yong Pin Hao “Red YiWu Zheng Shan” Raw
I picked up this cake at one of Scott’s recent flash sales on the Yunnan Sourcing website and I am so glad I did. I picked on this one early this morning and I’ve been enjoying it all day long (and it still has more to give). Wonderfully smooth and mellow from authentic Yiwu old tea tree material. Beautiful whole leaf with fairly light compression so it is very easy to pick off whatever amount suits you. It’s rather expensive (for me) but well worth the price and has just assumed a place of honor in my puerh collection.

I bought this same cake too, based on teadb.org’s recommendation. It just arrived a few days ago, but because of my head cold I’ve had no palate and haven’t tasted it yet! Glad to hear it lives up to its reputation!

2012 Nannuo Ming Qian by Bana Tea Company

Digging into some old Bana tea samples. Their stuff is typically quite expensive, but they offer a nice sampler pack. This tea has very strong qi. It is a light color and has a crisp and refreshing flavor. It’s nice, kind of soft so to speak, with bitterness coming through in later steepings. It’s hard for me to tell how a tea like this will age, but it is good.

Nan Nuo is one of my favorite areas. My experience so far with the aging is that if it has some harshness to it and little to no smoke it will have very pleasant floral notes and deep honey as it ages. It can also be pretty thick on the tongue if is not newer arbor.

Smokier examples in my opinion tend to end up in the more ‘medicinal’-wood or tobacco line of taste in the background which I respect, sometimes like, but not really favor. Yunnan Sourcing has some good examples of aged NanNuo though I can’t name them off the top of my head.

2005 Songpin Hao Ripe from PuerhShop.com

I ordered a sample of this one with my last order from puerhshop. It is a fairly light shu, burgundy colored. It has some interesting flavors. It has a dryness that reminds me of a dry red wine. It has some peppery and cherry notes. If you’re wondering if shus can really taste like that, this is the most pronounced I’ve had with these flavors. Not one of my favorites, but a fun one to try. I don’t think i will drink it again, though.

Only shou for the past 2 days. A new yixing pot recently joined my gang of little clay friends, and it needs some love.

It’s steeping up some 2010 v93 right now.

2006 Imperial Tribute Ripen by Menghai Tiandiren (Puerh Shop)

A nice deep fairly smooth shu. It has that characteristic gong ting flavor, with some acidity. Not top notch, but pretty good.
