I just bought a new yixing teapot and will inaugurate it with 2011 YS Ai Lao Mtn sheng tomorrow morning. (That is what I used to season it as well.) Also picked up on the Verdant tea 20% off pu-erh sale today and grabbed some of the Master Han’s 2014 Ai Lao Mtn sheng looseleaf.

2009 NAN JIANGOLD BUD MINI CAKERIPE PU-ERH TEA
I’d say this is a pretty good ripe. It is deep and earthy, has a nice caffeine kick, and lasts through a number of thick and hearty infusions. It has some chocolate notes. But it is not very smooth, with noticeable bitterness. Not bad at all, and I love that it is possibly organic.

Sweet, but a touch bitter on the finish. Minerally.

This morning as promised I brewed the 2011 Yunnan Sourcing Ai Lao Mountain sheng. It is progressing nicely in the two years I’ve had this tea. Color is deepening to a light to medium orange, and the brutal astringency of its earliest times is considerably tamed. It is deepening to an interesting flavor, still a touch green or alfalfa like, but also touching on flavors of olive, a hint of orchid, and with a pleasant salivary effect. I’m having 2002 Little Yellow Mark Private Order Aged Raw. Just did a note. OMG this is good. A bit bitter and astringent at first, then smoothes out to some sweet apricot-y-ness and the body feel is incredible. This is my favorite kind of tea drunk feel. Going to lay down and enjoy it.

I’m having an absolute sheng-load of sheng today. Mostly White2Tea. There are notes for most of them, except the ManZhuan which doesn’t exist on Steepster yet apparently, or I’m spelling it RONG. I liked it a LOT, but alas it is expensive.

It is on here, try a small Z, Manzhuan. I reviewed it awhile back. It should be subcategorized under Bark Like a TwoDog tea.

The 25 grams for $15 will last awhile if you are hankering for more. That is 4 sessions for a drunk like me or 6-8 for normal people.

Trying a 2006 Nannuo Bama by Life In Teacup
Got this with a sampler from Life in Teacup. It has strong notes of fruit, with some woody mushroom flavors, and a slick mouthfeel. I steeped this rather heavily and found it thick. I agree with JC that it tastes a bit of humid storage, but not overly so. I found it pleasant.

drinking 2003 Changtai Yu Nian Shu tuocha… a really nice mid-aged dry-stored pu’erh. will definitely buy a tuo or two of this, and one or two of the other Changtai tuo as well.

Today is a day to brew outside! The sun is shining and it is not too hot. You gotta love days like this in Seattle. We’re brewing up some of our 2012 Bulang Gushu “Ancient Tree” Shou Puerh. It’s a really impressive shou puerh.
