My sheng of the day: 1990’s Hong Kong Style Storage Aged Raw Puer from white2tea. First time I have tasted a wetter storage puerh. Taste is pretty complex…rich, eathy mineral notes, spicy camphor notes in later steeps, sweetness, light sourness, smooth, reasonable thickness, ultra long finish. Well worth a sample for the adventurous who are into drier storage puerh. I loved it.

I drank the Mandala Temple Stairs shou mini tuocha today. I like a creamy, very slightly sweet, cocoa-y smooth rich shou like this! And minis are so cute and fun :)

I had that one yesterday too. Very nice sample.

I’m a strong advocate of minis. Super convenient and perfect for non-gongfu stylin. I did a write-up on the Lao Cang flowers here…

I really want some of those! My hubby doesn’t know this, but I’m planning an order for after our trip next week so that they don’t show up while we’re gone. ;)

I really enjoyed the sample I got. I enjoy little tuos, & I know they sometimes get na bad rap, but there are some very nice ones out there (like this one) that are handy for travel & tasty at the same time.

2011 jing gu mtn mini Yunnan sourcing
10 grams to my 6 ounce giawan

Rinse/pause/5/10/15/25/35/55/80/120/240

First steeping there was a luxurious “rich” taste to it.
Nice and sweet yet bold and encompassing.

Not a hint of bitter and or astringent properties until around the 4-5th steeping.
I noticed as it progressed more of a tobacco/smoked flavor but still had a nice sweet lingering taste and aroma throughout.

Super pleased with this sample.
Nice clarity to the qi. Not too stimulating but helps me stay up and active.

Thanks for showing me the quality Yunnan sourcing has even with the cheaper caked tea.
This is one I would certainly drink again.

Tonight I was drinking the 2010 Hong Yun Round Brick from Dragon Tea House. While this is only a cheap brick, it is a very good cheap brick. I was most tasty and had almost no fermentation flavor left to it. It was a little less complex that an expensive cake but then again it was a cheap brick. But then again, Menghai Tea Factory does bricks well and Dragon Tea House is selling this one for a steal. It only cost $8.99. You just can’t beat that price. I plan to buy at least two more of these little gems the next time I order from Dragon Tea House. The brick made for some cool instagram pictures as well.

Drinking EOT 2008 Bulang Ancient Tree. Enjoying its gentle, warming character. Light woody sweetness, mild bitterness, mint, camphor, interesting cooling affect on the tongue, long sweet finish, decent relaxing QI. An excellent example with loads of potential for further aging.

This is the August offering from Jalam Teas, He Kei Unfermented, & this is my first session with it.

It started out very clean, with instant clarity of mind. It was a quality that reminds me of sage, not so much in the flavor as in the sense of clarity it imparts, & there was also a slight bitter edge, but it was the kind of bitterness that I tend to enjoy.

After a few rounds I had the image of a pine forest after rain…or some kind of evergreen, or maybe eucalyptus…yeah maybe that. Just a real nice aromatic sinus opening feeling.

I was really enjoying this one, when I got sidetracked, & accidentally left it steep for way too long. Drats! That cup was way too bitter. It took a couple steeps to get back on track, I got one that remind me vaguely of an orchid oolong I used to have in my collection, mildly sweet & floral, but otherwise the magic was kind of gone. Luckily, I have plenty of this to enjoy, & hopefully next time I won’t screw it up!

2011 mui run ripe bu lang

Thanks boychik I am in puerh heaven.
Haven’t tried a sample yet that I haven’t enjoyed

10.7 grams to 25 fl oz near boiling water.

Rinsed the leaves, let rest for 1 min
then let it infusion for around 20-40 mins.

Almost a creamed wheat smell with this one with a dark musk also present.
I find the combo more pleasurable than it may sound.

Sweet but the taste is balanced with a nice strong lingering flavor.
Warming Qi with a groovy energetic aspect.

I think i may add this to my wish list.

I’m so glad you enjoying it. And you said you don’t like shou. I had it last night too. 6g for 100ml. It’s very sweet syrupy thick. Amazing. Happy to share ;)

Hey that sound like comfort tea, perfect for this kinda weather and listening to baseball’s final days. Thanks for the share.

The sensation of nourishment has been coming up in my shu drinking a lot lately, this one sounds like it first the bill :)

@mrmopar, I’m so fortunate to have a great mentor. Shou pu has a bad rep but we are here to fix this problem :-)

you’re right, shou puerh does get a bad rep. fixing that problem is one of my goals as well. :-)

I’ve been enjoying the Misty Peak Rolled Puer today. It’s sooo smooth. It’s a nice, easy drinking sheng.

I have that, I thought it was really good. I bought when he had his two for one sale a while back.

I drank 2005 Phoenix Ripe Pu-erh Mini Cake by Yunnan Sourcing
I actually love little cakes like this, enough tea for me to enjoy several times, & if its spectacular, I can get more. If it’s average, that’s ok too, & I’m not stuck with 357G, or whatever.

This one is nice enough. A solid little shu that I enjoyed through the middle of the day. Dry the aroma isn’t much, but once you get going it really changes. My community has trucks that come around in the fall, & they gather up all the leaves & make huge piles of compost. They also make shredded tree compost piles. In the spring you can take as much as you like, & I always love the way it smells: sweet & almost syrupy, & also kind of like tobacco,… & stewed dried fruit.
Yup, that’s this tea.
