Looking to buy Chinese Green Tea Online

I’m relatively new to loose leaf teas, and so far I’ve only tried a few Japanese green teas from Mellow Monk, so I’m looking to broaden my horizons and try some Chinese green teas.

I did just a bit of research on the list of the “Ten Great China Teas,” and I figured I’d start with a longjing, a biluochun, and an Iron Goddess just because they’re so high up on the list, but honestly I’m open to suggestions if there any hidden gems of Chinese green teas you think I ought to know about or if I should avoid any of those three.

Problem is, I really don’t know the best places to buy Chinese green tea. Mellow Monk, the site I bought from before, only sells Japanese teas. Does anyone have any recommendations as to which site sells the best Chinese green tea? I’ve seen people here talk about sites like DAVIDsTEAS and Teavivre, but that’s all I know of really.

Thanks for your recommendations!

Since you don’t know what kinds of green teas you like yet, I would also suggest getting some different sampler packs to start. Adagio can be helpful in this area but other vendors offer samplers as well. There are plenty of quality vendors so I wouldn’t get too hung up on that part right now. I think long jing (Dragon Well) and bi luo chun are two good ones to get. I would also suggest getting gunpowder as well because of its history and distinctive taste. Iron Goddess of Mercy (Ti Guan Yin) is a great tea but it is actually an oolong. I would still get it because it is one of my favorites but it is not technically a green tea. Finally, I would also suggest getting some type of Jasmine green tea (Mo Li Hua Cha). This is another important green tea blend that it would be good for someone new to green teas to get experience with.

If I were to recommend one tea vendor for Chinese teas, I would suggest Roy Fong’s Imperial Tea Court at www.imperialtea.com. He specializes in Chinese teas.

Try Berylleb or cctv sysytems on ebay. Both know me as John, have good quality and fast shipping on genuine items.

Hello, I would like to recommend us for Chinese green teas. We also, do have an Anxi Tie Guan Yin (since you mentioned looking for a TGY in your post). We have some very unique high grade Chinese green teas and offer them in smaller quantities, so they are more affordable.

Tonight, we will be posting 3 new Chinese greens:

Wild Huangshan Mao Feng
Incredibly sweet with a rich creamy finish. This smooth, silky tea has notes of hazelnut, fresh butter, honey, and tobacco. Some very mild smoky notes peek their way through on occasion.

Dragon Well
Our Dragon Well is incredibly sweet, delicate, and smooth. The sweetness lingers long after the sip. Notes of chestnuts and apricots dominate. Subtle damp moss, marine and floral notes can also be detected. Cup is reminiscent of the forest after a summer rain.

Anji Bai Cha
Sweet and buttery. Prominennt vegetal notes with a gentle floral finish. White corn and green peas with light tart cherry notes.

In addition to those, we also have: Organic Ancient Bi Luo Chun, Organic Huangshan Mao Feng, Organic Mao Jian (on sale), Dragon Feelers, Golden Stars, Organic Jasmine Pearls, and Organic Imperial Gunpowder as well as several flavored Chinese green teas.

Verdant Tea carries some of the best authentic Dragonwell and Tieguanyin available, and their spring Laoshan green is also amazing (and certainly a “hidden gem”, no one else sells Laoshan teas). They’re not cheap, but they’re worth the price.

Thank you for the recommendation, sansnipple!

For those interested, we also actually just posted a photo-article about how the He Family makes their Laoshan Green tea, step by step. When you map it out, it’s really amazing to see just how much work goes into making the tiny green curls. :)

Mrs. Li also has some great tips for how to brew her Shi Feng Dragonwell:

I second the spring laoshan!!! Ohhh so good, it’s my favorite green tea basically ever and i’m not a huge green tea person :)
