I need to reach my goal by Black Friday support group
So, I managed to offload some teas by giving some to a friend and his flatmates. Yay! Now my tea box is still overflowing, but less so than before.
Also sipped down a few samples from some recent orders. I need to work a bit more on that part, if I’m to halve the number of samples I currently have!
How is everyone else doing?
I travel a lot and rather than deal with loose leaf on the road I would pick up a box of tea bags to take with me. Sometimes I would drink them all on the trip, other times I would end up bringing home the leftovers. This has left me with a lot of random tea bags floating around just taking up space.
Since I went on the road unexpectedly this week I decided to do a random tea bag sipdown. I’m happy to say I’m making progress, by the end of today I’ll have gotten rid of 8 different types of tea bags. Huge progress!! The only problem is that I’m about to run out of teabags and my trip has been extended by 4 days.
Haha, this feels like a first world problems meme. “Drank all my tea so I have to buy more.” :)

I’m suppose to be on a hiatus until I pay for our new refrigerator, so I have to make a tough decision. Do I break my hiatus or go without tea for a few days?
Sounds like a Travel expense to me. Not really tea buying per se.
Of course if you come home with half a pound of tea, then you cheated.
I fell off the wagon big-time, buying over a pound of Darjeeling tea from a sale that was just too good to resist. I can only tell myself that I might not get as good a deal on Black Friday. Plus, I’m low on Darjeeling, plus I have birthday money burning a hole in my pocket, plus I have no will power.
I’m as sick as a dog and can’t taste a thing right now. I still want to make progress on decreasing my tea, but there is no reason to do a sip-down on things I actually like, it would just be a waste of good tea. I thought this would be a good opportunity to clear out some of the teas I have that I just can’t stand the taste of. They’re sitting around taking up space and I can’t taste them since I’m sick. Good strategy or bad idea?
haha are they teas you could trade for delicious other teas? if not then sounds like a good plan…if they’re not worthy of the garbage heh
I do something similar: I take mediocre teas to work for those days when I’m just going to want hot caffeine while I focus on work (I also keep a couple of good ones to cheer myself up).

My box for teas I need to swap away is overflowing again and I haven’t had the spare money for swapping lately. I just need to suck it up and drink some of the ones I didn’t like.
I’m excited about the travelling tea box. Normally I would be in a hurry for it to get here, but now I’m glad you live so far away. It will give me a few days to recover my sense of taste so I can really enjoy it.
I did this myself recently. I was sick, which was dulling my tastebuds, and I really just needed hot fluids. Enter the sub par teas! I made some progress this way.

I’d like to get to 100 teas in my cupboard by Black Friday. Right now it seems like I am on track (129), but I know I have an incoming swap from Sil that will likely substantially increase that amount. Luckily they should be sipdown-able sample sizes.
No orders planned, and now that the Verdant Reserve club is defunct I won’t be getting a monthly addition of four teas. I think I can do it!
My goal for today was to get my cupboard down to 250 teas and by 1pm I had managed to accomplish that. It feels great to reach that milestone and with 60 days until Black Friday it still seems like I will reach my goal. Then I went and checked the mailbox. I haven’t ordered tea in awhile, I’m on hiatus and sticking to it, but I did get 13 samples sent to me for review and an email telling me that one more is on the way because they forgot to send it with the others. My cupboard just jumped back up to 264 and come Wednesday I’m going to have the travelling tea box.
New goals for the week:
Back down to 250 teas by Friday
No bringing home crazy amounts of tea when I stop by the Verdant Tasting Room this weekend on my anniversary trip to Minneapolis.
I didn’t get back down to 250 by Friday and don’t think I will. If anything my numbers are going to go up because I’m pulling a few things from Another Traveling Tea Box. I’m trying not to go overboard with pulling things out, I don’t really need a lot of tea, I just like the chance to sample such a huge variety of things. I haven’t even had the TTB 24 hours yet, but it is so much fun!
Plus I just broke my hiatus, I placed my first order with 52teas, I just couldn’t pass up Ginger Pumpkin Cheesecake Honeybush. I’ve really enjoyed some of Frank’s honeybush blends. Happy 5th Anniversary to me! Now I’m going to get back on the wagon, at least I only ordered two teas. I’ve been really good the last few months about not ordering tea, so it’s nice to have a small treat on the way.
This just isn’t a week of progress for me, but it was nice to be down to 250, if only for a few minutes. Maybe I’ll spend some time today pulling items out of my cupboard that I want to add to the TTB, that should help the numbers a little.
As soon as the TTB leaves me I’ll work on sipping down all the review samples I was sent and I’ll be back to making good progress. I know I have review samples from at least 3 companies I need to start working on.
Only 56 days until Black Friday hopefully I’ll still reach my goal, but it is going to be close.
Only 56 days huh…so that’s about 1 sipdown a day for me plus a couple on the weekend. i wonder if that’s doable lol
That depends on how large your amounts are. I’m getting to the point where everything I have left is 1oz or more, with the exception of my TeaVivre and Verdant orders. I’m beginning to worry I won’t reach my goal.
My joining the Verdant blends club is going to put a serious damper on my goal… now I’ll be getting 3oz of tea a month! At least I do have some easy sipdowns right now.
i joined that too, though i’m splitting mine with at least 1 other person and possibly two haha
I sipped down two teas this morning (whoo!) and I would be more pleased with this if I hadnt brought home two new teas yesterday (sigh).
At least they are small. My quest to 50 teas continues!
I think I should have no problem getting to 100 teas for Black Friday. I just went through my cupboard and I’m at 120 teas right now, and just as importantly, roughly 137 oz. When I first started tracking, I was at 110 oz in July, and in September I went up to 148 oz so I’m happy that the total volume has started to go down again!
I’m not planning to buy any more teas for the next few weeks at least (although I didn’t plan on that 4.4 oz tins from Andrews&Dunham either! /0\) so I’ll just be working on sipping down my oldest teas now!
I very nearly made it back down to 250 yesterday, which was my goal, but then I ordered 2 teas and added a few to my stash from the TTB. My dad called me and wanted rooibos, so that helped me end the day at 258, since I was able to remove a few that weren’t my favorites. I"ll just have to pick it up again after the TTB is on its way again.
I wish I were close to 100, but I’d be content with reaching 150 by Black Friday.
yeah i’m trying to get through 2 a day – or at least average 14 a week since i make up a lot of lost time on the weekend. I’d ideally like to use october to get through more than i need to, so that i can either relapse slightly in november or go a little crazier than i’ll allow myself on black friday haha
70 teas in 52 days. Managed to get myself to 220 for the end of today So that’s roughly 1 sipdown a day, with an extra 4 on the weekends that i’m not on vacation. Even with the few swaps that are inbound, i think i can manage it, if i can just stick to not ordering anything…especially since i already have the tea that i’ll be putting in to the BBB Box whenever it gets around back to me.
Well I was at 122 at the end of the day today… then I got my swap box from Sil. Back up to 151! At least they are relatively small amounts.
Haha, I knew it would happen. At least I was able to make a good dent in my stash before it got here.
yea… it always makes me laugh that we’re almost always about 100 between one another.
If I want to get down to 100 by Black Friday I need to do ~1 sipdown/day, plus 6 extra for the 6 blends I will be getting from Verdant Oct & Nov. Plus another 6 for the 6 oolongs that are on their way to me from Teavivre. But I’m traveling for a week in there, and unlikely to do sipdowns then, so that all comes out to about 1.5 sipdowns a day. I think that’s doable? I hope! I might run into problems if I get through all the close-to-sipdown teas and am left with larger amounts.
Good luck! 1.5 per day sounds like a reachable goal. I’ve run into the problem that I mostly have larger amounts to sip-down and am making much slower progress than I’d like. I have 109 to sip down before Black Friday, so that is 2.01 per day. Still a reasonable goal and one that I’ll have to really work on once my turn with the Traveling Tea Box is over.
Argh, add three more sipdowns to the total. I blame Sil… if she hadn’t sent me those Taiwanese black tea samples I wouldn’t have been driven to take Easy Tea up on their offer and try their amazing-sounding teas. $15 shipping almost saved me, but then I considered that I was getting $20 of tea for FREE and I should just cough it up. :P
So, at least 2 sipdowns/day, with some 3-days. Fortunately I’ve been averaging 3/day anyway.
I’m coming back in from a long tea-lapse, rejoining this group, & the Hiatus group, in an effort to maintain my tea-covery, at least for awhile.
I guess my goal is to get down to 200 by Black Friday, and to establish some kind of allowance for myself so that I don’t go entirely nuts on BF purchases. I haven’t done a count lately, but I think I’m around 220, plus some teas Sil has sent me & the BBB Box. I gotta get going on the sipdowns!
