I need to reach my goal by Black Friday support group
Only 45 days until Black Friday and I’ve got 100 teas to go. Now that I’m done with the TTB I should start making some progress again. I think I only managed enough sip-downs the last two weeks to make sure I didn’t increase my numbers with anything I pulled from the box.
2.22 teas per day is still an obtainable goal, now to just hold off on ordering a bunch of autumn teas and I should be fine.
How is everyone else doing this week?
Not bad! I want to be down to at least 50 teas by black friday, and I’ve got 5 to go. The trouble is now I’m getting into larger quantities/teas I dont like much to do this. So this might have some tricks to it. Only 45 day. Eeep!
Rosehips – if it’s tea you’re not crazy about, maybe you can swap it out? And then maybe it’ll arrive after Black Friday? :P
I now have 15 days ‘clean’ from tea purchases, although I did buy a dwarf olive tree & a new rosemary ‘xmas’ tree (god, I love fresh rosemary.). There were a few sun-dried olives on the tree, which I ate, LOL, & hopefully a year from now I’ll be curing a small batch of olives!
Ok, this is me rationalizing. Lupicia’s Private Sale is on now and there are two teas I really want to buy. So! I’m at 140 now, with three teas coming in early November from Verdant Blends club, one tea coming in the mail now, and maybe(?) six teas coming from Teavivre, but I’m not sure what the status on those samples is. That adds up to 144, maybe 150.
There are 38 days until Black Friday, minus 5 days I will be away on a trip, minus Thanksgiving itself and the 2 days before it. That leaves 30 days. That’s still less than 2 sipdowns a day, and I am doing at least that, sometimes more.
Here’s the problem: I counted in my cupboard and I have maybe 32-38 teas that are sipdown-able. Hmmm. Maybe I should be good… there will be other Lupicia Private Sales in the future. Sigh.
Well there wasn’t one in the black friday sales thread from the last two years. They do have Private Sales at somewhat sporadic intervals.
Only 37 days until Black Friday and I’m contemplating an order with TeaVivre again. I want to restock my Anxi Superfine Tie Guan Yin “Iron Goddess” Oolong before it goes out of stock. I’ve been out of it for months and I miss it, I’ll just have to make sure I’m only reordering favorites and not increasing my numbers.
I’m not really making the progress I had hoped for this week and I’ll be out of town all weekend for a wedding. Perhaps I need to do another random teabag sipdown while I’m gone and at least make a little progress.
I need to sipdown 2.43 teas per day and this week I’ve only been averaging 2. My goal for next week is 3 per day.
How is everyone else doing?
I’m about to say F-it and make a verdant order with a 15% off coupon I just got in my email. The coupon is good until Nov 30, though, so I may just continue to watch the one reserve club tea I want to make sure it doesn’t drop too low (still sitting on 32oz of it, though). If it does get below ~15oz, all bets are off! LOL
I’m doing super amazingly well, though that might not be the case when I get home. I should be set though, given I have Sunday to have a sipdown day before I even get in to November. :)
I’m seriously considering getting another couple of ounces of one of Verdant’s reserve teas. Again. I’ve been getting in a few sipdowns per week, but the volume of teas I have keeps increasing and my tea trunk has gone from ‘almost overflowing’ to ‘overflowing’. I have a problem. >.> Fortunately, I have been sipping down a number of samples (though I haven’t had the time to log most of them).
I haven’t been doing as many sipdowns as I’d like, but I also haven’t ordered any new teas for 23 days now (although I’d like to :)
I just keep reminding myself that I have tons of really excellent teas on my shelf already.
@Dinosara I’m doing the same exact thing. I’ve got a $10 coupon sitting in my inbox, but I’m waiting and watching. If it looks like they’re going to run out of the tea I want I’ll go ahead and pick it up, but I’m putting it off as long as I can.
Verdant has very few black and puerh offerings right now so I’ve been sitting on a $10 coupon for weeks. I want new tea, darnit!
Most of the new teas I have gotten are sample sized. So I shall have many sipdowns to do this and next month. (Della Terra needs to stop coming out with good sounding Harvest teas. I really need to wait for the Winter ones.)
Eep! Only 27 days to go!
I’m currently at 149 teas. My tea count completely excludes my haul from Taiwan, in equal part because I can’t identify most of it well enough to list (I can mostly only tell whether it’s a straight green, flavored green, herbal, pu’erh, or oolong) and because that would probably add 20+ teas to my list. So I like to just pretend that my Taiwan teas don’t balloon my collection.
My goal for Black Friday is 100 teas. I doubt I’ll make it, especially since I still have two Secret Pumpkins coming. No orders or samples though! And I will be sending out Secret Pumpkins too, so that will even it out somewhat.
So. 49 teas. 27 days. I can break that goal if I do two sipdowns a day, but I don’t have nearly enough teas that close to a sipdown. #firstworldproblems indeed.
Hey as long as you keep working on it! I have 163 teas in my cupboard and 5 unlisted so I consider those part of my cupboard, if it were 20 I’m not sure I would haha
My ultimate goal is to drink down any of my older teas and anything currently open. I’ve really accomplished a lot and will hopefully still reach my goal. I’m at the point where I’m struggling because I only have about 25 teas that are near sip-down amounts. I’ve been trying to sip-down 2 samples a day and drink a little bit from one of my larger open packages. I only have 84 teas left to sip-down or an average of 3.11 per day. This is starting to look like an impossible goal, but I’m still trying.
I may be cheating a little, but I’m not going to count my secret pumpkin or anything that I order this month. I’ve come across a couple of sales that should be on par with what I expect to see on BF. I placed an order and took the money out of my BF budget. Those teas, as well as my secret pumpkin teas, are going straight back to my guest room and I’m not allowed to touch them until BF. Now the chocolates that came with my first secret pumpkin are another matter, those are mostly gone ::grins::
When Black Friday rolls around I fully intend to spend the entire day enjoying my secret pumpkin teas, it’s just going to be hard to save them that long.
woot woot! a mere nine teas away from reaching my goal and that’s with the occasional sample purchase thrown in. I’m getting a few more from Kittenna tonight, which will make me a few more away from my goal but given that i have just over 25 days to get there, i’m golden even if the BBB Box shows up from terri or i get my other swap in the mail. woot!
Since we are so close to the day itself, and I was not around for black friday tea buying last year, I wonder if anyone knows who has good sales? I’m trying to think about what things to put on my buying list, and want to know where to focus on.
Anyone know?

Della Terra is having an awesome sale as well, last year many teas were 40-60% off during select time periods. Hopefully we’ll see something similar this year.
Kally tea automatically doubled all orders. Right now they’re offering a similar promotion, buy 2oz of tea get 2oz of mystery tea free.
I also believe Simple Loose Leaf is planning a sale, they’re a fairly new tea subscription service.

Suddenly I have $107 in my Playpal account!
A bride paid her deposit with a card, & today a student pd me with her’s (which she is planning to do every week, halleluia!). Part of me wants to immediately start buying tea, but I’m really trying to let it sit there & build up, so that I can have lots of money to play with during the black friday weekend.
Wahoo! I’m below 50 tea!
Now the bad news, I have a little Harney & Sons order coming my way…. Ooops.
Fortunatly I have a few more teas in sipping down quantities, and so I can try and get them down before my order shows up, so that I can keep my total below 50.

That’s awesome! I’m way up here at 209, which is much less than last month, when I think I was at 343 or something, but still quite a ways to go.
terri – it’s sooo hard… 150 is such a small cupboard…although a small part of me wants to aim for 100 for the end of the year…just ’cause

I’m at 93 teas, and my number should keep going down, but the 10 oz of Ceylon Star that I now have (whoops) bumps my total oz to 120.
I’ve got enough tea for 1360 cups. I… probably don’t need tea on Black Friday, but, I’m pretty sure I’ll order some Butiki and Della Terra!
I hear you, Sil. My addiction has gotten so bad that I feel like 100 teas is somehow a small amount, haha!
If my calculations are correct, I can hit 100 teas by black friday if I drink 4 teas/day from a selection of 35 teas with 5 servings or less left of them, including 1 gongfu session/day. After that I will be left with teas with fairly large amounts of all of my teas and sipdowns will be few and far between!
I never thought I’d agree with that – I remember thinking 40 was too much – but now I can see that 100 is a pretty decent number. :)
I think I will feel comfortable with a cupboard that is permanently about 150… getting down to 100 is a nice goal, but probably not a sustainable number for me… I have to many teas that I absolutely love!
I want to settle on an amount of tea that I can drink over a month’s time, drinking a cup or pot of every single tea on my crazy list once a month. I think I’m aiming for 150, but the reality is, I love tea & I know I’ll always order more! There are certain teas that I don’t ever want to run out of (they know who they are!). Then there are teas that I’ll enjoy, but would probably never actually re-order. Then there are seasonal teas…
