Represent! It’s going on 10 years for me. When I left for college, I wanted to start eating meat again (because it would have been pretty difficult to find good vegetarian food in a dorm room setting), but I just couldn’t!

Nahhhhh! Lots of options for dorms! I found some really neat stuff! (Of course I have been out of college since ’99) LOL

I agree sometimes dinning halls suck at providing good options – salad, cereal, rice, pizza and peanut butter are my staples

haha there were maaaany nights I ate salad for dinner in college…

I transition from vegetarian to vegan in the dorms and it was TORTURE!!! Options were little to non existent. I tried to get my meal plan refunded but since it was already April they basically told me to suck it up lol

I’m not a vegetarian, but I hope you don’t mind me stalking this thread… I’m hoping someone can direct me to a chai flavored soy powder or a soy based chai latte mix (recipe or premade).

TeaEqualsBliss said 2010-05-04 13:39:23 -0400

I still haven’t been able to find it without it being a muscle builder or weight loss or with other ingredients or in the chai flavor without chocolate! LOL – I have been trying! hahahaha

Oh chai with chocolate (or vanilla) would be AMAZING! My problem is finding one w/o other ingredients (i.e. veggie protein). I do apprreciate your research=D

vegan!

Small
Erin said 2010-05-04 14:07:27 -0400

Yikes! Props to you! I could never have the self-control to be vegan – I like cheese too much.

Small
Kristin said 2010-05-04 14:16:10 -0400

You could do it. It just takes 3 weeks without cheese and then you won’t miss it anymore (or I could tell you things that would make you not want to eat it). :)

TeaEqualsBliss said 2010-05-04 14:18:26 -0400

Yeah…I know of those things….but it’s also addictive (it’s been proven as I am sure you know!) That’s why it’s so hard to kick for some! LOL

I still can’t believe some of the stuff they put in food (and it’s legal!) I would say that if I was veg or not…eeeek

Caitlin, I saw on your profile that you live in Jersey. I’m not sure if we’ve had this conversation before, but what part of Jersey do you live in? I just moved away from Princeton.

NICE! I have loads of friends who are going there now. I might be transferring there if I can get enough money to move back out of the hell-hole that is Texas.

Not Vegan but all organic and no red meat.

Avatar_small
Cofftea said 2010-05-04 19:30:57 -0400

All organic wow! I’d love to be able to afford that. Does that mean you only drink organic tea as well? Organic matcha is especially amazing.

Small
TeaEqualsBliss said 2010-05-05 08:21:02 -0400

Every bit counts! :)

Small
Dan said 2010-05-05 18:44:11 -0400

We have farmers markets here every Saturday and organic is really not all that expensive if you keep local and stay away from Supermarkets. I try to buy just organic tea but some of the tea I buy isn’t. But thats a really good idea, might as well go all the way organic.

Cofftea said 2010-05-05 18:53:02 -0400

I love organic tea (especially matcha), but I have a hard time having self control and passing up AMAZINGLY good teas just because they aren’t organic.

Small
Dan said 2010-05-05 19:07:17 -0400

Ditto, there are many excellent teas that are not organic. I think tea is good for you regardless of being organic or not.

I am mostly organic and always looking to improve.

Vegetarian for 13 years. Do you think being vegetarian affects your taste in tea at all?

I think being a vegetarian has made me more adventurous when it comes to food, and I think that applies to tea too. I love trying new teas!

Small
TeaEqualsBliss said 2010-05-05 08:21:55 -0400

Not sure if it affected my taste but I have become more adventurous! :P

Small
Garrett said 2010-05-06 20:59:48 -0400

I don’t think it’s affected my taste in tea at all. It might have helped me drink tea all the time because of the health benefits, but didn’t affect the taste.

I’ve always been an extremely adventurous eater, my thoughts on food have always been that I’ll try everything and anything at least once. So becoming a pescatarian was a nice adventurous challenge for me. But being the adventurous eater that I am is also a big downfall for me. I sometimes question if being a pescatarian was a good thing for me since I am constantly wanting to try new things, especially foods. Who knows, maybe if I can get myself into a healthier lifestyle and not relying on being a pescatarian to be healthy, I might go back to being adventurous and eating anything at least once as long as I try and stay health-conscious…

52teas smoky bacon tea is vegan… have any vegetarians tried it?

Avatar_small
Cofftea said 2010-05-05 10:53:23 -0400

Not sure, but he did say it was vegan. I asked cuz I wanted a vegetarian’s opinion of it:)

Small
TeaEqualsBliss said 2010-05-05 10:58:09 -0400

Interesting…I will ask him to clarify! LOL, thanks!

Small
Kristin said 2010-05-05 11:46:40 -0400

I asked him too. He told me that any “flavors” added are definitely vegan. Said he wasn’t sure about the bacon bits and was going to look next time they used them.

Here I am… I too am vegetarian and have been since birth along with my beautiful little girl who is now 3 years old. I am vegetarian due to religious reasons and even if it wasn’t the case I feel like I still would be. It is nice to meet the rest of you as well.

Hi!

I’ve been a vegetarian for 23 years! When I was growing up, I never liked red meat and kept somewhat Kosher, so I never ate pigs or shellfish. When I turned 16, for various reasons, I stopped eating meat, a year later, chicken, and a year after that fish.

I’ve always been interested in being healthy, and stopped drinking coffee last year and started drinking green tea. I just found out about Steepster today when I ordered a kettle from Adagio!

I’m happy to meet other vegetarians/vegans here!
