Starting tea journey

I’m getting serious about tea, I first tried loose tea one year ago, and as time went on, I want to learn more and more about tea. I have a couple books, and of course this wonderful website but would like some recommendations of what I can do to learn more. I saw that sevencups has tea tours to china, would that be a good thing to do? I figure traveling is the best way to learn and look up questions as I go. I just wish there was some type of layout that you could check off major topics in tea! There’s just so much I’m not sure where to begin.

I would probably start with taking some classes. In Canada, there’s this certification that’s offered.. and I just noticed they have classes at a local college! Something to consider for next fall.

I can take these courses at RRC?…. Why am I not doing this? I don’t want to become certified, but would love to learn. Thank you for posting this. I didn’t know I could do this locally. Need to look into it.

No I can’t they are only offered to Culinary Arts students, or Hospitality Admin students. They aren’t offered on an individual basis….

Talk to the profs, Dexter. Good chance they can let you in. At least that’s been my experience with colleges. They’d rather have more students, because $$.

I would look into it…i’m pretty sure that Indigobloom was doing (or going) to be doing her tea sommelier certification and i assure you, she’s neither of those things.

Like I said I’m not interested in official certification, I just want to learn. I really feel like I don’t know enough about tea. The Chinese names confuse me, I don’t fully understand the processing. I just want to learn. I’m going to look into it, but I know there is a huge wait list to get into Culinary Arts – not so sure about them taking on casual student, but you are right, you don’t know until you ask.
In the mean time, I’ve been looking at this.

I’m going to enroll in that course and see how I like it.

Ooh, that looks neat, Dexter. I like that it says “Come thirsty.” :)

I know in Victoria they just opened up a tea course at Camosun College I believe. I have been wanting to take it but travels to Asia will prevent me from taking it.

You know what would be really cool though, would be an online tea course… where say you get mailed a type of tea every month ( or maybe 5 samplers) from a specific region or a specific type of tea. Then you get reading material, coupled with an online forum/community?

I’d almost be interested in setting one up for myself to learn, let alone other people!

That would be fantastic.
