Best Variable Temperature Kettle on a Budget...

Greetings Everyone!

I know that this subject is posted on a fairly regular basis, but Christmas is coming up and so I thought that we could handle another post asking the question.

I have my Breville One Touch, I love my Breville One Touch. My daughter is just now getting in to tea (she had her inner battle trying to avoid liking tea because she was rebelling against her tea drinking mother), but she isn’t in to tea enough to justify purchasing another Breville One Touch for Christmas.

However I would like to get her an electric kettle. She’s actually fond of stovetop kettles and has mentioned that she’d like one, but, knowing how easy it is to dry boil a stovetop kettle, I am convinced that she’d be better off with an electric kettle, and the one thing that I love best about my Breville is the variable temperature. I love that I don’t have to eyeball the kettle to pull it at the right time … and I want to give her that convenience too.

But, I know that these kettles can get really expensive. I don’t want to spend a fortune on something that she’s going to use maybe once or twice a day (I use my breville about eight to ten times a day or more.)

Since I haven’t been in the market for a variable kettle since I got my Breville a couple of years ago, I don’t know what’s the best thing going now … so, please enlighten me! What do you recommend for a good, reliable kettle with a variable temp?

Links, please!!!

+1 for the Hamilton Beach. Works better than expected for $40. I have learned when it first kicks over to stay warm mode the temp will climb a few degrees before dropping back to where it belongs. Not a problem for me. Most teas aren’t that persnickety and those that are you just have to watch the temp reading.

I’ve been using the Hamilton Beach for nearly a year without any real complaints, other than the one KS brought up concerning the stay warm mode. I notice the issue more when the kettle is less than half full. I’ll usually set the kettle for 5 degrees cooler than what I want or wait a few minutes for the temperature to drop. The issue is not bothersome enough to warrant switching to a different kettle, though.

Another +1 on Hamilton Beach. Been using mine for the past 3 months. I usually set it to the temperature I want, then I wait about 3-5mins on stay warm mode before I pour.

I ordered the Hamilton Beach Programmable Kettle (1.7-Liter) from Amazon.com for under $40 and free shipping. It’s supposed to arrive in the mail tomorrow. I’m so excited! ;D

The Hamilton Beach sounds great, and I was just about to order one, but then reading the Amazon reviews so many of them broke or stopped working after 2-4 months. Have you all had yours longer than that?

That’s why I bought mine at Wal-mart. They make it real easy to return stuff. No need so far as mine continues to work fine.

I have used this several times a day for nearly two years:

I have never had a single problem with it—I don’t understand the bad reviews. If you have a Target Red Card—you can get that 5% off with free shipping, I think. Might be worth a try.

I’ve been using the Capresso H2O Pro for about two years, at least 4-5 times a day. Boils fast and is super easy to use. It seems like the Oster and Capresso have the same functions, but the spout of the Oster doesn’t look very well-designed to me.

I am glad so many people are saying the Hamilton Beach kettle is well loved since I will be getting one as an early birthday present. I would feel awful if the one my mom decided to buy me turned out to be a bomb.
