Wow this should be fun. Will Lord Helmet be the one giving away the prize? LOL :-)

LOL! I kept peeking at this page at work today to see the general response (since my boss was within view of my computer screen all day I couldn’t peruse or respond to anything :P) When I read your response I loudly “snorked” (which is extra loud when you work at a library) and had to quickly switch pages :D

Oh, and it would be TOO CUTE if the winner used this pot to brew their tea:

I have five complete sets of dice, and then on top of this, three more loose d20s (along with a few loose d12s, 8s, 6s and a loose set of two d10 percentile dice).

Need I say more?

Small
Rabs said 2010-05-11 19:06:51 -0400

And here I was all nervous to post this because I thought that everyone would think that this was lame. ::breathes sigh of relief::

I only have one basic dice set with a few extras, one old-school “Tomb of Horrors” booklet, and the notebook (called the “Nerd Tome”) where I’d write down all the things that made my group howl with laughter.

The ex got everything else :P

AmazonV said 2010-05-11 19:50:15 -0400

oh man, you need to just go buy a pound of dice, you get such fun random stuff! some dice i can’t even fathom what to do with – i’ve done it a few times…sadly i can never convince d100s to stop rolling

I’ll get some more dice and books if I ever find a wonderful group of gamers :) My old DM was beyond awesome and we did a weird mashup of all versions, but for core rules went back to 2.0. Most of the time he created the quests (keeping our personalities in mind). He also had a HUGE bag-o-dice that he would generously share. We even took a twistie tie and twisted it into a spiral as a “one sided die.”

And to keep my # of replies down: your wedding dress? ::faints:: That is awesome!

I’ve always had to mooch rule books off of friends, because I never had the money to buy 3.0, 3.5 or 4.0 of DnD, although I own the complete 1.0 set.

But to me, dice are like socks, and I always say that if you don’t know what to get me, get me dice. Especially since I usually play the spellcaster in the group.

AJ: Just read your bio! A fellow Whovian!!!!! Unfortunately my knowledge mainly goes back to Tom Baker (and some Pertwee). I’ve been meaning to try and watch the first three Dr.’s episodes. :D

And I almost always played a Warrior (usually human). I tried spellcaster once and I was amazed at how many dice I needed. There was one spell (the cone of cold I think) which I dubbed “the cone of math.” ;)

AmazonV said 2010-05-12 10:59:04 -0400

once characters are created you can really share 2+ books between the gaming group (1 for dm 1 for players) – as a spell caster i used to put the spells i knew on notecards so i didn’t need to use the book

Small
AJ said 2010-05-12 16:23:53 -0400

Pertwee IS my Doctor. Badass in Frills. Although there are also these two, in my icon; Eight, and Alterni!Nine.

I usually memorized one or two spells that I used the most, but there were always the half a dozen other filler spells that I didn’t use as much. My characters often had very little planning put into their spell-choice. Mage Armour? Pah! Mage Armour! I’ll just stand in the middle of the group and take another offensive spell instead.

AJ: Have you seen this music video featuring Pertwee fighting? It’s brilliant: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l2PPpATr254

AJ said 2010-05-13 14:27:36 -0400

Yes I have! There used to be another one I liked; different music, but better quality, and the scenes used were allowed to draw out a little longer to more fully what happened. It doesn’t seem like it’s on youtube anymore though… Sad.

Oh wait! Found it! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pMAab89iINM&feature=related Huh. I remembered it having BETTER video quality. Ahwell.

Also, so! Katy Manning is set to cameo as Jo in the upcoming Sarah Jane Adventures. Why does SJA get all the Classic Who character cameos? They had the Brigadier too. I want the Brig in the main show, damnit.

I’m in for anything related to geekery (there’s a reason one of my aliases is “quasigeek.” teehee).

Though I feel I’ve failed at my kind for not knowing we had our own day…

Small
Rabs said 2010-05-11 19:12:44 -0400

You’re not alone! It’s only been quasi-observed in the U.S. since 2008. I had the basic concept of the game down and then I spent time browsing the web to find an occassion that fit. I was thinking about Gary Gygax’s birthday, but I was too impatient to wait until the end of July.

And then I found it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geek_Pride_Day

Angela said 2010-05-11 19:47:43 -0400

ah, that explains it. I feel it deserves a party now!

Wow. Geek Pride Day falls on the 3 year anniversary of Zoomdweebie’s (our parent company). I had no idea. We are working on planning the 3rd annual Zoomdweebie-fest for that Tuesday.

__Morgana__ said 2010-05-11 18:10:43 -0400

Oh what the heck. I’ll play! (Not that I need more tea, though. I’d like to play just for the fun of it and not for the winning. ;-))

Small
AmazonV said 2010-05-11 18:22:06 -0400

me too-sort of makes me want to have a game make up of my ‘to be drunk’ in my cupboard – i’ve got all sorts of dice! hmmm

Small
__Morgana__ said 2010-05-12 02:30:04 -0400

Yeah — so Rabs, if I win, pick someone else to actually play for the tea, ok? I’ll just play for fun.

Small
AmazonV said 2010-05-12 10:53:51 -0400

Rabs do you have enough time to come up with (later after the winner gets to play) rules for non-winners to play at home? like make 20 labels numbered 1-20 and place on 20 random non-repeating teas in your to drink stash/cupboard/whatever them roll and do x,y,z ?

Small
Rabs said 2010-05-12 11:01:43 -0400

Oh yeah! I’ll totally post my “rules” for at home play. They should be very similar if not exactly the same as for this contest with maybe a few tweeks here and there ;) I’ll post them at some point — not sure when. I’ll let the winner start playing and then whenever s/he is fine with me posting them I will do so!

AmazonV said 2010-05-12 11:06:12 -0400

SWEET! thanks Rabs, gaming+tea=WIN

Doulton said 2010-05-11 19:06:07 -0400

I cannot resist entering, although I really have more than enough tea. And I sort of hope that I don’t win but I do have a compulsion to enter things…..Also since you are doing a “play-it-forward” concept, I really shouldn’t enter. Or was that a “pay it forward?”

And I love your rule about the winner needing to be responsive to you. It feels really really yucky to package up a lot of tea and send it out and never get a PM from the recipient letting you know the package arrived.

What a nifty contest!

Small
Rabs said 2010-05-11 19:23:17 -0400

I am so deeply pleased that you like it! And you’re more than welcome to enter. If you do win, then I think that others may suspect that we have a conspiracy going! ;)

As for the PM I just think it’d put my mind at ease on several levels. I’m glad that it didn’t come across as demandy — I just have an irrational fear that anything I mail will disappear into the ether never to be seen again.

Small
AmazonV said 2010-05-11 19:51:58 -0400

i admit i am sometimes awful about it (pming to announce arrival) – but with the last two packages i got there were no names blushes in shame
