"starter kit"

Looking for some suggestions on what I’ll call a starter kit. Just getting into tea, dont have anything to brew in besides a couple cups here at home designed for coffee.

I have friends in South China near Yunnan, Hong Kong, Guangzhou, etc. If something isn’t readily available here for a good price I can get it very cheaper there and shipping is nothing for me. Please keep that in mind with suggestions.

2 pronged question really.

Need a small kit for home & at office. Thinking a Gaiwan and small Cup would do this need well. Would prefer a cup with a lid of sorts to keep tea warm as I may sip on it for a while.

Second piece I need is something I can brew a larger volume with at home and commute with. Both the brewing and Cup for commuting should brew and hold roughly 12-16oz. Thinking something American here as in a steeping Cup with removable strainer?

I will be brewing raw Yunnan tea, Pu Erh, and Chinese/Japanese Green teas.

I’ll let others speak to the small kit but for a commuter cup I love the timolino. It really keeps tea hot for hours. They make a bigger version too. The basket might not be big enough for your liking though, I’m still figuring out what teas work best in it, teas that have really big leaves that need to unfurl like some oolongs don’t really meet their full potential.

I like that. Pure functionality

I have a small travel gaiwan set that comes in a padded case. It’s really nice to toss in my bag for travel or keep in a desk drawer at work.

This is not a Gaiwan or small cup, but it is a travel kit for bringing the tea along with you. I’ve been looking at it for a long time but never bought it. I have a cup I leave at work and just bring tea with me (usually in old tea tins or ziplock bags).
