Travelling Tea Box - The Great Canadian Edition (Round 2: December 2013) SIGN UPS CLOSED

This is the second round of this box. The plan is to keep circulating the box through like one constant swap.

This round will be open to 10 people. Those who participated in Round 1 will have first dibs on participating in this round. Others can join in depending on space available. (The reason for limiting the number to 10 is to make sure the box does not get lost, to keep the box weight relatively small, and to ensure we can continuing sending it out for future rounds).

Here is the order:
IHateMyself ON (Received Dec. 19)
Dexter MB (Received Jan. 9)
Kirlika AB (Received Jan. 15)
AshleyElizabeth BC (Received Jan. 30)
Jewelled Thumb US (Received Feb. 11)
Sil ON (Received Feb. 20)
VariaTea QC (Received March 11)
Calla ON (Received March 20)
mewakling MB (Received April 29)
Janelle SK (Received May 5)
and back to me (Lala SK) (Received May 14)

Here’s how it works:
You get the box in the mail.
Drink as much or as little of the tea as you like. You can take out tea and keep for later to sample.
Replace the amount of tea that you took.
Send it on to the next person.
Once it makes it back to me, we can send it out again on another round.

For all participants and anyone interested in participating, PLEASE READ these rules:

-This is a Canadian travelling box but we could send internationally if there were people who are specifically willing to ship internationally.

-You will be required to pay for postage when you send the box out. It is not mandatory, but would be beneficial to send the travelling box with a tracking number in case it gets lost. In the first round, shipping was between $9 -15 depending on the weight on the box.

-Please try to replace what you took out, considering quality, price, weight.

-Try not to keep the box for longer than ONE WEEK. (This is not a set timeline, however we would like to keep the box moving in a fairly timely and efficient manner). Please keep the thread updated when you receive the box and when you are sending it out.

-Follow the people who are before and after you in the list so you can PM about addresses and such.

-Please label all the teas with your name, the tea name and the tea company. If you can add recommended steeping parameters, that would be great.

-Please make sure to package teas appropriately so that strongly scented teas do not contaminate the other teas, and so that no teas escape and wander the box while in the mail.

- Please replace the box if it becomes damaged.

- There will be a small notebook in the tea box. Please update the book with which teas you took out and which teas you added. REMEMBER to keep the book in the tea box so the next participant can update it.

OK so I am still sampling from the box. But I am also getting ready for the next round.

Here is a link to round 1: http://steepster.com/discuss/5851-travelling-tea-box-the-great-canadian-edition-round-1-sept-2013-successfully-completed?page=1

I have a question first. Because it is the Christmas/Holiday season, should we send the box out now, or wait until the New Year? I have two concerns if we send it out now: someone will have it over the Christmas Holidays. If that is the case, I want to make sure we keep the box moving after a week and not have it sit for too long because of the holiday; also I don’t want it to get lost in the mail with the large mail volume this month. What does everyone else think?

So signs ups are open. Those who participated in round 1 will be given priority over others. There is a max of 10 spots. So far Sil, Dexter3657, Calla (and myself) have asked to participate again.

I’m in Lala. I’m just a little concerned about those who get the box mid Dec to early Jan. Maybe they should be given a little flexibility in length of “keep time”.
I just know if I received the box on 20Dec – I couldn’t get it out in a week. :))

Lala said

Dexter – I think that is a fair argument. I am not trying to be a hard a$$ on the time limit. We were able to keep it flexible for the first round. I just want to make sure that everyone understands the idea is to keep the box moving quickly. After reading through some of the other travellig box threads, it seems sometimes people keep the box for up to a month or longer.

Like I said before, please sign me up for this next round ! I just loved being part of something so wonderful. My roomies thought I was just so nerdy and I loved it even more afterwards. :P It really is a wonderful experience. I have no problem with the whole Christmas thing, timing might be an issue for me, as I am home from now till January for the holidays, and then I’m in a different city again. So if we could work that out, then that’s good. :)

That is fine Calla. When we get everyone signed up, I will check and see where everyone lives and we can come up with a “shipping order” from there. If anyone is unable to have the box at certain times, we can try to incorporate that into the shipping order.

Sorry, I wasn’t meaning to imply that. I thought we had a great group the first time and the box did really well to keep moving. I just wanted to toss it out there so that no one is “scared off” of coming back or joining, because they are busy over the holidays. (does that make sense…I think I’m shopped out and brain is fried…)

Lala said

I think your right, I wouldn’t want to scare anyone off either. And I agree, round 1 people were awesome. I think what we can do once everyone is signed up, decide who will be able to spend time with the box over xmas vs who will be too busy. That way we can make the best of it. I am ok if someone keeps it for longer than a week if they need too (but maybe not a month – haha). Having a “keep time” also helps me, so that I know when I am supposed to start harassing people about when or if they sent the box out :P

OK I’m confused – SORRY
I swear your first reply post – I’m still sampling the box, link to old thread, should we wait or send it…. wasn’t there when I replied. I saw the opening topic, then you saying that signups were now open – that’s why I replied to this comment and not the other one. It wasn’t there… strange – or I really am loosing it.
LOL instead of posting that, I would have said – maybe wait until the New Year. People busy over the holidays, mail time could be longer, package getting lost, etc. I’m good with waiting until just after NY to send it out.

Lala said

Ha ha ok. It should have been there, so either the internet is weird (which is a fair possibility) or your brain is still all black Friday. I will wait to see what everyone thinks. I am fine sending it out either now or later.

I’m in again Lala! I’m ok with US people coming in on this, it cost me the same to send to SK as to California!

For when we start, im good with whatever everyone agrees to. I am busy for the month of December, but getting some awesome tea would be a great treat :)

If any of ya’ll are willing to ship to the US, I would very happily pay to ship it back up north! =)

OK. I will see who all signs up. I would have no probs with this but Canadians will be given priority. We had even discussed before about swapping travelling boxes with US or EU.

For shipping to the US, it would depend on the price for me.

I would be interested in joining if you are still looking for people to participate. I will be in Florida from Dec 19- Jan 7 but other than that I am in Canada.

I am new to tea and live way up in Northern Manitoba, but I would love to be a part of a Canadian traveling tea box! I do travel though from the 20th of December to the 2nd of January.

OK, so we are getting a few people signing up. I am first waiting to hear back from BenTea about participating in this round before we start making decisions about new participants.

We have had a request for a US steepster to participate. I can’t guarantee at this point we will be shipping internationally but a few people have expressed interest. So I thought I would post some shipping estimates to make sure everyone understands pricing.

For me to ship to the US postal code (approx. 1 kg parcel) would be approximately $19. This price would change depending on where in Canada the box is shipped from, but I would guess it would be around $20 or so. To ship the box back from the US to Canada would cost approximately $17 (based on USPS website) and I believe the price would not change no matter where the box was sent.
