Need recommendations for herbal teas

Hi guys.

I’m trying to cut back on caffeine. I’m still drinking my lovely black teas in the morning, but starting in the early evening I try to drink only non-caffeinated teas. I’ve been having mostly rooibos/honeybush blends, but lately I’ve wanted something else.

My question to all the tea experts/addicts here: What herbal (not rooibos/honeybush) teas do you recommend?

The catch is that I’m not a fan of overly fruity teas. I’m ok with a little fruit, like a bit of orange in a chocolate flavored blend, but not blends that are mostly fruit. I also don’t like licorice/anise or hibiscus.

So given all those limitations, are there any herbal blends left that are worthwhile?

Thanks!

I love pure mint, on it’s own or with some chocolate or orange or whatever else catches your fancy. Mint and lemon also tastes good – to me, at least! :)

My other go-to herbal is lemon myrtle which I also mix with whatever else I am interested in to spice it up a bit!

Oooh.. mint and lemon, what a interesting idea. I like mint too, but for some reason never thought to mix it with anything. I’ll try that!

Dilmah – peppermint

I recommend GreenFiled’s Camomile Meadow. or Ronnefelt Lemon-sky.

I once had a Honey Rooibos blend from Greenfield that was really good. I’ll look for the camomile one. Thanks!

www.teegschwendner.de has about 4 pages of herbals. I have had some of their teas purchased through other retailers and have enjoyed them.

Lemongrass is nice with an earthier taste. I find that you can even pair it with a fruitier note to find a good balance that isn’t too fruity but doesn’t taste too basic.

When you say you don’t like fruity tastes perhaps it is best to see which flavors you really don’t like out of them as blood orange peels are very different flavors versus dried blueberries or raspberries.

I really enjoy apple bits and Golgi berries, which is a mix that I made out of a bulk bin combo :)

You are right, I have lumped all fruit into a “do not like” group, perhaps unnecessarily. I hadn’t considered that. I just always just thought I didn’t like fruity teas, without giving much thought to which fruits I actually did not like.
I also think that the abundance of hibiscus in fruity teas made them all unappealing to me as I really don’t like hibiscus.

I will try a few fruitier teas (without hibiscus) that I think I might like. I too like apples and berries of all kinds, so I’ll start there.

Dandelion root has a really wonderful flavor as well. And speaking of ginger, any time I want a bit of an extra boost in me tea, I grate a tiny amount of fresh ginger into the cup before steeping. It compliments most basic herbals very well.
