Best Find in 2013

Was wondering what everyone’s best find in 2013 was? If you drink a lot of teas maybe there is a find for each type of tea. For me one stands out from Tealux- the milk oolong Jin Xuan. I was actually curious about David’s Tea – Quangzhou milk oolong so had to buy that one but it wasn’t as good as the Tealux one. Another special find for me is 7th Heaven from Tealux. This is the best lapacho tea I’ve ever had and both of these will be a staple in my tea cabinet.

My best finds are all my tealux.ca and verdanttea teas I found and ordered online as I am new to loose leaf tea since end of 2013.

I am not new to loose tea but I am new to doing some online orders. There’s an amazing bunch of places online!

In the category of new vendors, I’d pick Taiwan Tea Crafts. In the year they’ve been open I’ve made 5 orders and with samples included, have tried about 2 dozen of their teas and haven’t found a dud in the bunch. If you’re into straight tea, these Taiwanese oolongs and blacks are highly recommended.

I am glad you posted this! It seems all of the straight black tea I have been gravitating to are from Taiwan. I read your post and immediately went to their site. I had not heard of this company before. My next order will definitely be from here.

I second the recommendation for TTC. they have some fantastic teas! and getting sample sizes with free shipping at 25$ is awesome!

The teas I’ve received from TTC are all exceptionally good. Would also put Teas from Taiwan and Origin on the list of good finds.

Tough call, but I would say either: Jun Chiyabari tea from single origin teas, or Ruby 18 from Asha Tea House.

Though I may have already found my favorites for 2014 with any tea from Camellia Sinensis.

Realistically, my best find in 2013 was loose leaf tea itself because I started drinking it in August and now own over 200 varieties and just can’t get enough. And steepster was a pretty amazing find as well. However, if I had to say what tea I think was my best find, a few stick out.

When I first started drinking, it was DAVIDs Sugar & Spice as that was one of the first teas I fell in love with. Then I found steepster and got to try new companies and Della Terra’s Carrot Cake rooibos stole my heart. As of recently though, I am obsessed with Herbal Infusion’s Marshmallow Snowflake Earl Grey and Nina’s Paris Nina’s Japon. Though there are so many other teas that I love just as much!

Also, in the case of vendors, Butiki was an amazing new taste experience. Their teas are really like no other. But I got to go and meet the people of Nina’s Paris and I cannot say enough about how amazing they are so I am so happy to have found them.

By the way, I am actually located in Montreal but have never been to Tealux. You are slowly inspiring me to make the trip to the store one day.

I’ll have to try Butiki teas next although that Carrot Cake Rooibos sounds great.

Thunderbolt tea. They sell a number of amazing teas straight from Darjeeling. Best thing was that they were on sale!

Agreed – my best find was also Steepster. If I hadn’t have found Steepster, I wouldn’t have found all the great teas that it led to.

Agreed! Steepster was also my best find in 2013, which then led me to:
Arbor Teas, Butiki, DAVIDsTEA, Della Terra, Fusion Teas, Hugo Tea, Joy’s Teaspoon, Lupicia, Mandala, Nina’s Tea, Nuvola Tea, Shanti Tea, SororiTea Sisters, Steep City Teas, Teajo, TeaVivre, t Leaf T, Steven Smith Teamaker, The Tea Merchant, Upton Tea, Verdant, Vintage Teaworks, Teas Etc., Yunnan Sourcing, and Zen Tea Life.

During my 2013 tea journey through Steepster, I learned first-hand how wonderful tea people are at all these companies and on Steepster!

Agree! My best find was Steepster! If it wasn’t for Steepster I would still be 80% Teavana. Thanks for opening my eyes… and nose and taste buds, etc.

My “find” would probably be Mahamosa Plum and Pear Green tea. I’ve wanted to find a green tea I liked for some time, but I just never clicked with one. This was the first green tea that I really liked,

Other new favorites from the year include Della Terra Pumpkin Spice and Lupicia’s Caramel and Rum rooibos.

Where on earth did you buy the Pear Green Tea? Tetley used to have a Lychee Pear Green tea and I was upset when they discontinued it. I haven’t found another Pear green tea since.

Mahamosa’s Plum and Pear Green is my favorite (for some reason the links don’t seem to be working, but you can cut and paste the link):

They also make a nice Pear Green and White tea:

Den’s Tea also makes a pear green tea as well for cold brewing iced tea:

My personal perfect vanilla flavoured black tea! At last a long search is over.

Also Tea Palace, which I learned of through a pleasant swap with Scheherazade who sent me a sample of their Jewelled Apple tea. I’ve since bought a big tin of that one. I had a great shopping experience with TP.

So what’s your favorite vanilla tea?

Angrboda said

It’s from a local shop (Fru P) where I live. She doesn’t have a webshop.
