Thermos good for carrying already made tea...?
I saw a lot of topics on thermos/tumblers on here… but I want to make my tea in the morning and be able to get to it later in the day. Could I do this in anything? Even a SIG stainless steel bottle? Something like that? Or would the tea mess up a bottle like that? I don’t have access/time to make the tea when on campus at school but if I could still have some already made that I can drink half way through my day I would be so happy. It doesn’t have to stay hot. I always cool my tea (post-brew) because my mouth is sadly very sensitive to hot temperatures of any sort. Any reccomendations would be great. I’m brand new here but am stoked about finding this site. I am working my way through the two adagio green tea sample packs right now. :)
I did see the topic from a couple months back about tea thermos/tumblers but it didn’t seem to reach a decisive answer. That’s why I brought the topic back up except that I’m only interested in transporting my already brewed tea throughout the day.One warning I’d give you about metals (and some have this problem w/ plastic as well) is that they can hold flavors similar to a yixing (Jade Teapot sells yixing tumblers by the way that look pretty flippin amazing)- but I’m not sure to what extent this happens w/ tea. I think it also depends on what tea you put in it. A hard core lapsang souchong drinker would probably have more issues w/ it than a Silver Needle drinker. So I suggest glass. I just use normal travel tumblers, double walled plastic, i have on occasion had one that held the flavor
hmmm now that im thinking on it. I could just buy like 6 or 7 bottles of HonesTea and just reuse those bottles to carry my tea throughout the day…
You could bfhancock, but I strongly suggest you find a more environmentally friendly option. Yet another reason I rarely drink RTD teas.
Well I did mean that I would hang onto those bottle for a long while…. but I would rather one thermos/bottle of some sort… if I knew that SIGG bottles wouldn’t absorb odors/flavor and wouldn’t get ruined, I would use one of them… but I can’t seem to find out if they really are good for tea.
Honestly, I carry tea w/me to work all of the time in those food-grade aluminum bottles that people use to hold water. These do not hold any flavors/odors at all. But, they do not keep the temperature of the tea hot. So , throughout the day, the temperature decreases over time. But, on the other hand, when I use a thermos, the tea stays steaming hot all day and that is even worse.

Teas Etc makes a beautiful plastic (bpa-free) double-walled tumbler. I haven’t tried it.

This is what I have been using. I got it recently, I think I have been using it for three days. So far, so good. Mine just has a blue cap and I got it from Amazon instead.
To get the odor out of your thermos try soaking it in salt water. I know it sounds weird but my friend soaked her coffee thermos in salt water and put Long Jin in it the next day and I couldn’t smell any of the coffee. I wouldn’t have believed it if she didn’t show me.
I tried it too and it works pretty well.
For the thermos, Nissin Thermos has a good double walled stainless steel tumbler with a tea strainer and screw on lid. I’ve seen it at TeaVana but bought it on-line for a few bucks less. It’s about $25 but good quality.

You can get it from a lot of places online, including us (not including link here because that is a little TOO shameless) – but I know that a number of Steepsterites have purchased them from us before, and they can attest to how good they are. I have tried MANY other thermos’s – and can honestly say that I choose to carry this one because it is the best of the bunch I have found so far.
