Your Morning Cuppa
I like black tea with milk in the morning, such as London Cuppa, Yorkshire or PG Tips. Later in the day I’ll brew the loose green or oolong teas.
PG Tips, as thought and action don’t really occur until at least 1, preferably 2 cups has gone down. And it’s usually their bags, in the micro. THEN I can think about what I’d really like. I know that is absolutely heretical, but I- Don’t -DO -Mornings
English Breakfast tea with a splash of milk and rock sugar:)
Related topic… What does everyone use for their morning palate cleanser? Of course you want to brush your teeth 1st, but do you do anything to get rid of the minty fresh feeling before drinking tea? If so, what do you use?
My system is two toothpastes. I have a child’s toothpaste (which I think is bubble gum flavored) for the morning. The taste fades from my mouth much faster than mint. In fact, by the time I’m dressed and ready for tea, the flavor is gone. Then I have a sterner toothpaste for the evening (usually a strongly flavored mint whitening toothpaste of some sort).
This way I don’t have to do any palate cleansing. My mouth is clean and the flavor is neutral.
Cool! Thanks for the suggestion. Some of my teas wouldn’t clash w/ mint, but since I don’t like mint in my chai, for example, that’s one I say away from 1st thing in the morning. Until now I’ve just been taking a drink of cold plain water, but my New Year’s Resolution is to never drink plain water unless I’m out to eat and need something to quench my thirst (hot tea doesn’t always work) as long as I’m also drinking hot tea w/ my meal.
Tom’s Natural Toothpastes in non-mint flavors don’t leave a strong aftertaste or an aftertaste for very long.
Something, anything, with Assam or an Assam/Kenyan base. My morning person is a bit of a tea masochist who doesn’t mind a strong Irish breakfast or other robust/malty tea to rough him up a bit. Late morning though I try and enjoy a pot of a green or an oolong.
Not a fan of anything fruity or overtly herbal/floral in the morning, just want a straight tea with a couple drops of honey for whatever effect.
Having grown up in West Indies (what the Brits used to call “The Colonies”), tea was something that was served in the afternoon. My grandmother was from the southern part of the West Indies (near Aruba) and my grandfather was French so I grew up drinking coffee (with milk). A good cup of Ethiopian Harrar is what I prefer.
Since a couple of days it’s the “Afternoon”-blend from Witthard of Chelsea.
Mmmmh…no, today it was a Oolong from Taiwan.
If black then the all-time-classic: Englisch Breakfast from Twinings…bit of milk, bit of sugar.
For those that enjoy flavored blacks, 52teas’ Buttered Cinnamon Raisin Toast black would be a great choice!
I tend to stick with black tea in the morning – the days I chose different things I frequently find myself disappointed. I change it up between several different black teas I have, but usually stick with Red Dragon or English Breakfast. I would also pick an Earl Grey (my true tea love I think) but I haven’t had any good Earl Grey lying around for awhile.
I’ve been sticking to Earl Grey or black based chai teas in the morning. I find that black teas give me the boost I need. For awhile though I was drinking Iced Raspberry Riot Lemon Mate in the morning, and found that while it gave me mental clarity (great when driving to work at 4am), the “high” didn’t last as long and didn’t seem as effective as the black teas have been. Maybe for really hard mornings I should grab a hot black tea and an iced RRLM. Hmmm…trying this next Monday for sure!
