Tea-Inspired Tourist Attractions
With summer here, many will hit the road on vacations. Some may take a formal approach and consult a the list from 1,000 Places To See Before You Die. That is fine but I also like to search out little extras to make our travel personal. What tea-inspired tourist attractions have you found?
As some of you know Boston has become my home away from home so I’ll start with that great travel city. It is easy to associate tea with Boston and plenty of great tea shops. With the Boston Tea Party Ship & Museum closed, I’ll throw another into the pot so to speak. It is the Giant Steaming Tea Kettle. I like this page because it shows the steam coming from the spout and shares a cute story.

Here in Acadia National Park, Maine we have the Jordan Pond House. Famous for it’s traditional tea and popovers it has a marvelous view of Jordan Pond and the “Bubbles”, a matched pair of glacier-rounded peaks.

I was never in China or experienced there some tea-ceremonies, but this tee-house at least “feels” authentic.
These aren’t tea specific attractions, but there is a tea connection to them:
In Portland, OR, there is a Chinese Garden with a tea house. There is also a Japanese Garden that has Presentation of Chado once a month.

Check out the Teapot Dome Service Station in Zillah, Washington. According to Ardele Steele, Associate Planner, the city hopes to get this moved into the city and brought back to life. We’ll all keep our fingers crossed for their cause. It is such a unique example of highway Americana heritage that needs to be preserved.
