A few years ago my mother visited her family back in Macedonia, and on her return she brought back a huge bag of dried mountain tea. The official name for it is sideritis, but it’s also known as mountain tea, ironwort, or shepherd’s tea. Has anyone else here tried it?

I’ve had it a few times, but not very often, and I’m worried that now the leaves are stale since they’ve been sitting in a tupperware container for the past few years. The stalks are HUGE, so there’s way more in the container than I’ll ever be able to finish by myself.

I’ve never tried it, I’ve heard of it, I’ve looked into it.ive been very interested in almost a compare and contrast type of thing. Is it prepared in the same way? Sounds cool though:) if you’re willing to share some, maybe we can talk:)

According to my mom, this kind of tea needs to be boiled with the water for some time to extract the flavour – it’s too thick and tough to give off much if you steep it like “real” tea.

I notice that you’re based in NC, while I’m in Canada, so I’m not sure how easy it would be to share, considering I don’t know if there are certain government regulations regarding shipping/packaging.

Good point, well I’m interested to know how it all works out for you. Some teas are just different than others I guess. Best of luck and enjoy the tea:)
