Teavana Tea to Go

Sorry if this is a “worn out” topic, but I always see these Teavana threads talking about how they use a lot of tea leaves in their drinks. I never really knew the true experience of the excessive amount of tea they use.

In this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uM2zcQJXEtQ at around 9:07 they are getting a hot tea to go. My mouth dropped. Holy **** that is A LOT of tea. I wonder if I went to Teavana I could get the tea leaves on the side, because for that price it would be cheaper than actually buying the tea itself!

My local Teavana definitely doesn’t use that many leaves. That steeper holds about 16oz. White tea is large leafed tea so two teaspoons per cup isn’t out of the question. There were at least six or seven teaspoons in the video though, lol. If she ordered iced tea then it would be brewed in a concentrated way anyway.

I have had the same experience at Teavana. I had the Cococaramel Sea Salt Herbal Tea as an iced latte. OMG they just kept putting more leaf in and more leaf and more leaf, then the amount of rock sugar they put in made me doubt my sanity. I wish I had recorded it like you did! It made me doubt whether it had truly happened at all :D The drink was great but to reproduce it at home I had to use most of my purchase for 1 cup!

Wait, how did you even get to the nine minute mark to discover the tea part?! I’m kinda baffled by the couple. They are just recording their morning and trip to the mall for folks to watch on youtube?! That is so strange!

You’d be surprised how many people do that and how much money they get from it. It’s like a DIY reality show. A boring one. That’s why I don’t watch vlogs, and I skipped to the 9 minute mark. lol

So the ‘IMPERIAL ACAI BLUEBERRY WHITE TEA’ is 14.98 for 2oz.
If I use my White Ayurvedic chai and an approximation for ‘perfect teaspoons’, I would get probably 8 tsp/ 2 oz bag. 6 were shown used in the video, and I am not even accounting for the fact they were heaped, they are probably 1.5tsp worth of tea per scoop.

That means that would be an $11.24 cup of iced tea… (on the low end of the estimation.

That’s insane!!!

So paying 14.98 for 2oz of tea, wouldn’t even be enough to replicate two iced teas….

The thing is that I don’t think it was even an iced tea, it was in a hot cup and they said they used the few ice cubes just to cool the boiling water. It is crazy insane. I think a cup of white tea is about 4 dollars there.

If they are using their “perfect teaspoons” as the scoop, they are actually closer to 1.5tsps when level, so it is likely that every heaping spoon is closer to 2tsps.

Do you think they put so much bc they were both getting a cup? A little later in the video when they were in the candy store they both had Teavana cups and Judy’s husband is complaining about the white tea being oversteeped

I use a huge amount of Teavana foody blends (the ones with huge chunks of edible “stuff”) when I prepare them at home. As in half of a 2 ounce package! Otherwise the flavor is wan and reminds me too much of Vitamin water.

Fortunately I bought everything I have at drastically slashed prices during the final post-holiday sale, so it’s not expensive.

Would I pay full price for these same experiences? No way.

How my gosh, that’s more tea than I use for my herbals!

LOL. I only use 1 to 1.5 perfect teaspoon for a 6-8 ounce cup. That is more then enough for me. I like many of Teavana’s teas but their prices make me very cautious about how much I use for each cup, and how much I buy at a time.
