Teamonger.com -- scam site or legit?
So about 3 weeks ago someone posted in the discussions about free samples from teamonger.com. I hadn’t ever heard of them and checked it out and ordered my samples. I also checked out the rest of their site and they had some super interesting blends. I tried to order a few more samples and when I tried to order it (after entering all my cc info) i got a variety of different error message. I stupidly tried to use a different card to see if maybe there was something wrong with a specific card for them. Nothing would work. So then I got nervous that they have all of my credit card information so I called them and told them about the issue. They told me they were aware of it and there would be a fixed soon. It has now been three weeks, I have called several times and email them to make sure they don’t have my cc info and haven’t heard anything. No response at all. There’s a notice on their site that people have been having issues, but I’ve tried (never with real info again) to place an order in all types of browsers and still nothing.
You would think a new company would spend every second to fix an issue that prevents people from ordering their products. And in the very least, respond to emails/phone calls.
So, has anyone successfully ordered from them? I wouldn’t recommend anyone try in case it’s a scam. Seems like a lot of work on their web page to scam tea people, but otherwise they just have the worst customer service ever.
I don’t think the site is a scam however I’ve received several newsletters with discount codes and they never work (says first 20 people or until they run out) I’ve tried ordering only minutes after getting the email and says invalid. Could be a fake promotion… I have also tried reaching them by phone multiple times and never gotten through. They have a professional answering system with different options to press to make it sound like a big company but there is NEVER any answer (called during reg office hours) and also they don’t respond to email questions.
Google tells me that those discount codes are also posted on Facebook and Twitter, and they made a post saying one of them (first ten people) expired in five minutes, so I think the codes are real enough, you’re just getting them comparatively late by email. Presumably they gather up all this stuff for newsletters and send it out at predetermined time.
Someone also commented on their Facebook saying they had received news that their samples were now on the way. That was on the 7th. Depending on where they live (I don’t know where they live) and where it’s supposedly shipped from (I don’t know that either), that’s a pretty long time.
I haven’t gotten my free samples either! I have thought about placing an order with them bc some of their blends sound interesting but this sounds concerning!
I just wasted an hour trying to find out more information about them. I can not find their address, or that there is a registered business in the state of Washington (their twitter handle says that they are in Seattle) with the name of Tea Monger. So I’m kinda getting alarmed.
Looks like their site is registered to a Lisa King on 6611 Associated Blvd in Everett, WA registration service by Hover in Canada. The address exists but the only companies I found there was a realtor, Coldist grocery distribution, and a construction company.
I just posted something on their Facebook page, figured if they are ever going to respond, I may have to twist their arm publicly!
Yeah, something doesn’t seem right. I don’t really recall if I signed up to receive their free samples (I don’t believe I did), but it still is uneasy to think about what could happen. Their website seems so legitimate though…like it looks professional. Would someone really go through that much trouble to set up such a realistic looking website—a tea website of all things—just to scam people?
Some flags are the “about us” page says it was started by 4 tea lovers but doesn’t name or profile anyone or their background and nothing about which farms they use.
It goes on to say as “we’ve grown from a small to a large company” and all of their employees “from the webmaster to our CFO, legal team, and dozens of other employees” try the teas before they are released… if they are big enough to have a CFO and dozens of employees how come no bloggers or reviewers have written about their tea? And why is there no one from Teamonger on LinkedIn? Every google search on their name just leads to the sample links…
Come to think of it, their newsletters ARE weird (yeah, unfortunately I signed up for the free samples). Like… The most recent one lets you download a free e-book from somewhere. And the previous one urged you to sign some “food and beverage choice” petition. It’s just not something I would expect to find in a tea company newsletter.
If it’s scam, that would be indeed very disappointing and upsetting.
Has anyone asked about it on the Tea subreddit? I am not on reddit, otherwise I would have asked about it myself. I only lurk there and I think people were signing up for the samples there as well.
i also ordered free samples from them (a long time ago) & still haven’t gotten them.
weird, their newsletter from yesterday was talking about how Warrior Chai is the most popular/requested sample.
are they trying to collect data or what?
